      When do you wash them, how often? How? How long does the lace last gluing and ungluing?

    Thank you so much for this series. I am a newbie to this whole process. Just started a week ago with my first wig! This is going to be a HUGE adjustment for me and that is why I am so grateful for you to educate new wig wearers. I have seen a lot of your other videos and you help me get the confidence I need to do this. Thank you again!

    Denise it is now June 2024. I just watched wigs 101! How fantastic. I am just starting my journey at 64 years of age with extremely thinning hair on top and my top back of my head. I’ve been digging into learning how wigs are made and all the details of fibers, caps, tools, glues, colors and brands. I have now order 7 wigs to try hoping to find 3 to keep. I can’t wait to watch the rest of this series and download the companion documents. Thank you so very much for this short cut to my own wig masters! Do you do consultations?

    Denise, sure wish you'd done this one sooner...like about 4 months ago when I took the wig wearing "dive"! This video is one of your best and I love your presentation of all the extremely useful information. And especially that it is void of choppy editing. Smooth!!!

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much!! Editing may have shortened it, but I'm not sure the trade off is worth it, both for you AND for me and my own time. These already take long enough to do, I can't imagine if I had to spend significant time editing. I figured I would just do time stamps in the description and that way people can just skip to what they want to see.

    I watched this entire video and learned so much already. I mostly wear Raquel Welch but also own an E Wille wig. I need a petite wig so I am limited to what I can order. I wish more mfrs. would make more petite wigs. The RW voltage is my go to and favorite right now. I have just learned from you to expand my search. I will as I can afford . I’m on a fixed income so must always save for a good wig. T Y!

    As a right side parter I've found the even if you pay extra for the mono top, the majority of the styles I like (long pixies) are cut to be left parted anyway so the mono top is kind of pointless for this. I think I'm just going to have to train myself into a left part. Thankyou for mentioning the maintenance of heat friendly curly/wavey wigs. I hadn't thought about that before and that should save me a few pricey regrets :^)

    OMG another great video, I’ve been wearing wigs for approx. 11 years and I’ve never felt comfortable wearing or knowing what’s what with regards to the different types of caps etc, I’ve learnt so much from you in this one video. Sorry if I sound soppy but I’m actually crying that there is someone out there that can/is helping me as much as you are.

    A really good intro to wigs and many features that one needs to know retain types of wigs and the general quality etc.in making a selection. There seems to be much to learn. I would like to know which companies for instance feature particular qualities. I also don’t see all this information listed on ads. I wish there were local stores that carried an assortment of styles, features, and qualities to try first and get to ask questions before purchasing. I totally dislike having to mail returns. I live in so Ca and one would think there were more stores available to try first. There doesn’t seem to be updated inventory available. It’s such a maze to wade through.

    Bless you for putting up this channel. Thanks to you I’m looking into a human hair investment. A local salon, reviews are really good and they cater to hair loss customers. I watched your video of you wearing a well fitting human wig. That for me is worth the price of admission! I have a lot of anxiety with slipping. It's pretty bad when all the grip solutions slip off but tape and I have plenty of hair where it's supposed to go. BOINK!! I tried the tape anyways. I thought I had a plan until it was time for the dismount. Using the Jon Renau spray to get it off, it reacted by balling up like a sea anemone. Not as cute, looked more like a giant buger trying to eat my hair, and these are my good hairs! Now I'm mad spraying it like it had to be killed. Looked like a dead jellyfish when I got done with it. I won the match, but defeated not wanting to deal with it. My color matches are not available anymore, my tail would be between my legs if I had one. Right after this happens next day your video popped up and rescued me. Wow!! We can't make this stuff up, just like that a great never give up pep talk. I just wanted you to know how grateful I am. I'm subscribed!

    Congratulations🏆👏👏 on such a great introduction to your new series. It's going to be SO helpful and encouraging to so many people. When you & I were just beginning to ride the learning curve of wigs there was nothing like this out there to watch and learn from. Only little tidbits now & then and none of them this well done and easy to understand. That's not all bad, because you and I might not otherwise have had the opportunity to meet and become friends as we shared hair, tips & ideas.
    This series is going to save a lot of time, guesswork and money for those who are newbies and just don't know where to start.

    Very comprehensive thanks. Because I like bangs I find basic caps are fine except that some brands (I'm thinking Noriko) don't do the front very well and you have this very obvious felt ridge which can show if its windy. Jon Renau are really good though and can often be picked up at a good discount so very budget friendly. They have definitely become my go-to's if its a blowing a gale! That wig you have on is one of the nicest I've seen you in Denise. Really suits your face shape. I went over to take a look at it but sadly no greys.

    Thanks so much!!! I just found out I have Female Pattern Hair Loss. It's not too bad yet, but I have been kind of nervous about what to do. I'm curious about wigs, but the prospect of educating myself and them and selecting one seemed overwhelming. Your video has made me feel much more confident and encouraged. You are so welcoming and disarming, and you left me with a smile on my face! Thank you!

      Awwww, thanks!! You might want to check into toppers as a first step. Sadly I waited too long and didn't discover this world until it was too late for me to try toppers, which is why I don't really cover them, but might put put a short video in the future about how to decide if toppers or wigs are right for you. I'm sure I can find some wig sisters who will loan me some toppers for a video. Hugs!!

      Really enjoyed watching your first video. Very informative. I lost my hair 4 years ago and have purchased 2 wigs from a very high end shop..loved the first one but it has started to wear, the second one has never fit perfectly, took it back and they told me it was fine just adjusted the straps, worked for a while but still doesn’t feel right. When I asked what brand these are they wouldn’t tell me other than they order by number! Also the second wig has a silk lining and when I asked why they said it was lingerie for the head. Paid $600 for that one.
      have been watching lots of videos and am having a hard time trying to decide which one to order. I am 86 and had gray hair. I must say your videos are so educational for people with hair loss. All the wigs you have look beautiful on you. Think I will order some soon and see how that works out. Thank you for all the information. Will keep watching.

    Hi Denise I love your honesty I watch you all the time as a wig beginner I know you said you love Belletress and the feeling of the fibres and I have 2 and even hand tied. I find I can’t see the mono part. ❤ Also i’ve only felt Belletress but I didn’t think the fabrics weren’t so super soft myself. I was a bit disappointed, but anyways, as my journey begins I should try another designer! Hair is too thick, so I guess I’d have to pluck it. Its the part I don’t like just too thick anyways any suggestions? Thank you beautiful!

    I just bought two of my very first wigs. Both human hair. I'm super nervous because I have never worn a wig before...only a hair topper, which isn't working anymore to cover my hair loss. I'm torn between the idea of synthetic and human hair because I do like the idea of being able to keep the human hair wig longer; I think that will save money in the long run. I also think even with the downfalls of weather against the human hair, I think that'll be more realistic. However, I wish it was the shake and go like a synthetic. I haven't even placed a wig on my head ever, so this is all really scary. I. Just waiting for the wigs to come in to make sure I don't look totally foolish before buzzing my hair off. Looking into a possible professional wig install as well. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know. I'm super nervous and know zero about wigs. How do you get the courage to wear wigs in public, especially at work where everyone is going to know?

    I'd love to hear a wig review for which wigs to buy for those of us in menopause or over weight and get hot very easily. Also, on the same kinda subject, wigs that go in a ponytail nicely or pin up in a clip without being obvious its a wig. Also, are there any hair topers you can wear kinda as a wig (like if you have short hair and you don't want to blend the topper with your hair. Purpose being to stay cooler)

    • @tmb2755
      @tmb2755 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As someone who has mainly worn toppers (and still has some thin fine long hair), I would recommend the largest base size possible if you are going to wear a topper over short hair. I have a Jon Renau Top Smart Synthetic 18". It has a base size of 9 x 9. It covers a couple inches past my crown and has a lace front. It is really nice. For reference, I have a small average head at 21.75 inch circumference but some child-size measurements otherwise. Jon Renau has one that is 11 x 11.5 called Top Full that will give you even more coverage but I haven't had one to comment on. It is the largest base size available to my knowledge unless you have one made for you OR you make a topper out of a wig (there are a few videos out there if you choose to make your own). I also have a human hair topper in a 10 x 10 size without the lace front. The hardest part with toppers is getting a color close to your own.

      I like the Jon Renau O'Solite range. I would stay away from Noriko - they have a ton of permatease and its like wearing a woolly hat!

      Hi! I somehow missed a bunch of comments on this one and so I am so sorry I never responded! I have a few videos out there showing how to put a wig in an updo as I am TOTALLY into that at that moment! Here is one: th-cam.com/video/s5jjWoFU5TY/w-d-xo.html and here is another: th-cam.com/video/teaWvk4ITPM/w-d-xo.html As for wigs that are good for menopause... I am going through that myself right now and it is CHALLENGING! I recommend finding a low density wig with little to no permatease and short enough to keep it off your neck. Another option is to get a little longer piece that is low density and no permatease and put it in an updo. I just reviewed BelleTress Shakerato which would be prefect for that!!

    Denise,
    Thank you for your wonderful and thoughtful videos. Gosh I wish you’d been around when I first lost my hair so many years ago. Talk about a learning curve, hairloss and wigs were so taboo to talk about and
    I never had the courage or knowledge to go beyond my comfort zone! Videos like yours (along with a few other wonderful ladies) have really helped me on this journey. There’s so many factors in picking out a wig besides the style and this series will definitely help so many new wig wearers! Thank you ❤️
