My Dad died of ALS in
1992. It is one of the very worst ways to die. For family watching a loved one go through this is agonizing. My Dad didn’t want to go on a feeding tube or a respirator so he chose a passive suicide. He just stopped eating and drinking and he didn’t announce it; he just did it and I would do the very same thing myself. Prayers for Steve and his family that God will give them the grace and the strength to get through this. 🙏🙏
My condolences to you and your family. It must have been so difficult to go through all that.
My aunt died from it as well. It really really sucks.
@@mikepalmer2219, my aunt also died from it. I once visited her with my dad. She previously had been an outgoing, heavyset lady. She had become a skinny, crying lady unable to speak. Her daughter took care of her. Really sad.
So sorry to hear that story about your father. I've been of the opinion that when life comes to that, it should be an option to go in a comfortable way. Something that felt like it was being talked about in the 90s. And we just stopped having that conversation.

So true. I barely remember 85 bears. Jim McMahon, singletary, dent, n refrigerator William Perry. Remember mcmichael w Debra n wcw w 4 horsemen n the Halliburton suitcase. Then Debra was in wwe w stone cold Austin 👍
It's crazy that Bobby Heenan and Steve McMichael were the original two color commentators for WCW Monday Nitro, and they both wound up in the same type of condition at the end of their lives......horrible

I was wondering if anyone would mention his WCW career. Which he was at WM 11 XI in LT's corner. He was better than people thought he'd be. He's definitely one of the best that was a star in the NFL, and then went on to wrestle. There's been guys who played, but wasn't great in the NFL (like Goldberg for example). Sadly the NFL and wrestling years have contributed to his disease.
I was never a fan of his very limited wrestling skills but God bless this football legend

Damn man. This video hit me hard. I grew up knowing about him on the football field, but became more familiar when he joined wrestling. He has a strong woman by his side. God bless the both of them.
Vikings fan here. Just wanted to congratulate you on being named to the HOF! You definitely earned it! Anyone that doubts that needs to look up your highlight reel right here on TH-cam. My mom also suffered from ALS, but just like you, she was a fighter. Her spirit could not and would not be conquered. You and her are about as hard-nosed as they come. You are the quintessentiaI tough guy and a true champion. I salute you and will keep you and your family in my prayers. God bless.

So true regarding the health most take for granted. Fortunately for me it didn’t take something I couldn’t recover from to finally understand this and my life has had more meaning to it since.
Shame on the NFL for not letting him enjoy this moment. He's been retired for decades and if he's a hall of famer he's a hall of famer. If he's truly deserving he should have been inducted years ago when he would have been able to enjoy the moment and participate in the festivities. They did this last year with 2 guys who are no longer with us and were retired for decades.
The NFL does not make the decision. The NFL actually has nothing to do with the Hall Of Fame. The Hall Of Fame i owned by the Hall of Fame Resort & Entertainment Company, and the NFL allows them to use pictures, videos etc, and had input an where it would be, but they have no power over the Hall Of Fame. The NFL does not pick the members.
It's a popularity contest these days, just like the Pro Bowl. The more people they snub, the less prestige it carries.
@@DerrickRGIf they lowered the bar too far it would REALLY lose its prestige. I wasn’t aware that McMichael had ALS until seeing this video, btw. When I heard that he had been voted in, I was surprised. Another Bear made it, too, but I forget who it was. The Class of 2024 was announced during the Super Bowl, which is when I learned of McMichael’s and the other Bear’s honor (in addition to the other guys, who I can’t recall now).
@@DerrickRGDevin Hester is the Bear that I couldn’t think of. It’s pathetic that I forgot that. I loved watching him return punts and kicks. He supplied the one highlight for Bears’ fans in Super Bowl 41.

Richard Dent, Dan Hampton and Steve played on the same line together and now they're all in the Hall of Fame, absolutely awesome!

What a tragic condition. I know nothing about his football career aside from the fact that he was a football player. I know Mongo from his wrestling days in WCW in the 90s when he played one of the villains in the 4 Horsemen.
I didnt know what became of his life. So tragic.
I'll NEVER forget that evening at Wrigley Field when Mongo sang "take me out to the ballgame" for the 7th Inning stretch-- and gave home plate umpire, Angel Hernandez a mouthful (deservedly so too) over the P.A. speakers before singing. Then Angel Hernandez promptly ejected him from the premises. Classic!!!!
Packer fan here, glad that the legendary Bear's player, Steve McMichael, has quite deservedly and finally been inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. Congratulations to Mongo, his family and all who have known and loved this fine man.

I was in High School during this era of football, and in my opinion this Bears team was the greatest I've ever seen play. Especially the defense was unbelievable. Congratulations Steve McMichael may God bless you and your family thanks for the memories 🙏🏈

This man IS a LEGEND! I saw my Dad drop to under 100 pounds from cancer and it is such a difficult situation. As a family member or friend, you feel helpless. Nobody should have to endure these illnesses. MONGO you are one of the most special and influential players from your era. God Bless you sir, and your family and friends. You deserve the Hall of Fame, but more so, you deserve the Hall of Fame of STRENGTH AND DETERMINATION!

I watched him play all those great games when the Bears were at their peak with Coach Ditka and he was just such an awesome player leading their great front 4 . This situation with failing health was something I was totally unaware of and I feel so much grief in my heart for this man , his family , and his teammates !! God bless you , Steve , you are in my prayers !! You gave something very special to football fans when you were on the field , 100 % all out effort , every play , every down !!! I wasn't even a bears fan , but ; I loved to watch this man and this team succeed because of the way this team played !!!!

That guy is a bears legend, and I’m a saints fan. I grew up in New Orleans, but I spent 10 years in Chicago. Lived my time there. He deserves it, I can relate bc of Steve Gleason. I used to listen to mongo on the radio in Chicago. Our family here in new Orleans love you Steve! Much respect! So many legends in Chicago, all the best!

Well deserved honor by Steve. A few Pre Brady Patriots have been snubbed that should of been in the HOF by now. Stanley Morgan and Irving Fryar. Fryar easily should of be in with almost 13000 yards receiving and 84 TDs. Morgan with 10716 yards and 72 TDs.

ALS is a horrible disease. My heart goes out to Steve McMichael and his family. He was such a larger than life personality. It saddens me that he wasnt able to be on the field to be honored at the Super Bowl or to give his hall of fame speech at Campton. But at least he was finally inducted into the football hall of fame. Long overdue.

Absolutely heartbreaking to see him like this. He was an ultimate badass on the field and in the ring. He deserved better than this horrible disease.
This isn't a token induction based on his current health. He should have been in YEARS ago. He was one of the most DOMINANT interior defensive lineman during his career. I am a Redskins fan so my opinion is not based on a Bears fan bias. The guy had 95 sacks as a DT, only 1.5 less than Warren Sapp and nearly TWICE as many tackles. I mean look at the recent DT's to get in, Warren Sapp, Cortez Kennedy and Bryant Young, Steve McMichael was better than ALL of them.

We were married for 15years. She died at age 49.

I love McMichael, he is part of a team that said, "It is perfectly acceptable for you to be yourself. You don't need to be perfect, you don't need to be anyone else. Be yourself and be proud of who you are." That has helped me during some very difficult times of my life and I will always be grateful to him.

Well deserved. Mongo was one of the most dangerous linemen in the game and a big part of why the Bears won the Super Bowl in 85/86.
And honestly, I'm glad his wrestling career has been given a second glance, and he was actually pretty damn good in the ring!
