+Paolo Bago - Thanks so much, I really appreciate the support. I'm not really sure what else I can do to bring new people in but I'll keep creating great tutorials.
Thanks Colin for another great tutorial. I'm a pilot and creating animated maps to show trips I've flown is a great way to share with friends and family.
i have been looking around for map animations but lots of them gave the impression that its so difficult and marketing it. But you made it so simple. Thanks for the tutorial. Big Thumps up
Hi from France Thanks a lot for this very clear and precise tuto 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 It’s the first time I get such an easy map animation tuto. I’ll use it for my next trip…… as soon as Covid let us travelling. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Been binge watching your tutorials the whole day... You're a great teacher and this channel is by far the most effective one I've seen in teaching people to make the most out of Premiere. Thank you so much for this initiative!
Great tutorial. You probably know this but for your viewers..when using the mask you can drag across the blue dots of the mask and select multiple points, then just drag those points where you want them rather than dragging individual points. Big time saver!
Thank you Mr. Smith, you are great as ever. I did this animation with after effect as your other tutorial. My question is: how do I move the camera while animation acting as a saw in this tutorial?
+Simone Gaetano - Instead of "nesting" as I did in Premiere Pro, you "Pre-compose" in After Effects (bottom of the Layer menu). This does the same thing and basically in brings in a nested comp into the current comp. Now you add keyframes for position and scale like I did in Premiere Pro.
TNice tutorials was an amazing video! you really Nice tutorialt all the key points for the basics without ever over complicating anytNice tutorialng. A hard job and you did
Nice! But instead of creating and animating the mask I just drop a directional Wipe transition on the line clip and that's it. It is faster, easier and, whats important has consistent speed, while with mask it's difficult to maintain the speed across multiple key points.
Hi! Please teach how to do map 'roll out' effect (preferably using an old map like that used to describe historical facts) in either Premiere or After Effects. Thanks!
I'm not clear on what you're asking. If you want to make it look like a paper map is being rolled flat from a rolled up map, that can only be done with a 3D program like Cinema 4D. That is in the category of visual effects and I stay away from that subject.
Hi Colin, nice tutorial. Although I was surprised you didn't match up a certain number of red strokes to a number of frames when keyframing the mask. For example 5 strokes every 40 frames. To keep the speed consistent throughout. And then maybe animate the plane on those same keyframes.
+Avene - That would really be a great idea to keep it even. Sometimes I'm more concerned about keeping the duration of the tutorial short and I miss some stuff. Thanks for pointing it out!
Great tutorial! But my plane seems to lag/stutter every second or so. It seems to happen at every keyframe I created for the movement of the plane. How to avoid this?
It's very difficult for me to know without seeing your Project but I would try to export it and see if it's just a problem during playback. If its still stuttering in the exported file, then try changing the keyframe type from Linear to Bezier.
@@VideoRevealed I found the answer eventually. What I did wrong was creating a sequence with a different fps than the original project. Only took me two days to figure out haha!
Exactly what I was looking for and well presented, and you've got a new follower! But I have a problem. When I drag the imported photoshop file from it's bin into the sequence panel the layers appear sequentially instead of stacked one on the other. I can drag them to stack up, but it seemed like they should pop into the sequence already stacked.
+Bazimga! - Yes and I'll be showing that next week. This is for the large number of video editors who are not comfortable with After Effects yet and they just need a simple animation. Thanks for your support.
TNice tutorials is literally the hardest tNice tutorialng my brain can't comprehend. AnytNice tutorialng else I do takes a few minutes and tNice tutorials is just.. it's just so confusing
Hello Colin. I have been enjoying your videos and find them very "revealing", no pun intended. May I make one suggestion...request actually. It seems all your PP videos are being done on CC. I for instance use CS6. Would you please announce early in your videos which versions of PP you lessons will work with? Thanks.
+blackholevideo - I understand your request but some tutorials are not CC specific even though I'm using CC (this one is). Announcing the version might make some people not try that specific feature in their version and it's way too complicated for me to research what features are working in what version. I hope you understand, it takes a lot of work creating these tutorials.
+VideoRevealed Hey, I get it...I tried a couple of your techniques only to find out after some trial and error that they are CC specific. It would have been nice if at the start it was mentioned that this (whatever) is new to CC. Thanks for your efforts Collin they are very helpful.
It's not as easy as it seems. I have tons of features to think about in about a dozen different applications plus shooting the video, lighting, rear projection, setup and tear down, audio, mixing, editing, output, keywords, and on and on. It's incredibly challenging to put together a show at this level and I'm sorry if I can't do that.
Is there a way to see the red line for a reference while you are dragging the mask? Your example is easy, but if you have a complex path that snakes all over the place (such as going back on itself or in tight circles) you have to be very precise with moving the mask. Do you have a solution for this?
If you want the object to move quicker, then move the keyframes so they are closer together. If you want the object to appear at a higher elevation, then move the drop shadow further away.
Great tutorial. I still don't know how you figure all this out, but I was able to make a pretty cool travel map for a trip documentary I am working on. I guarantee it took me about 4 hours longer to do this than the average person, LOL.
This video is great & amazing but i slightly got problem as i cant move the arrow once i click the toggle path. can you please tell me why & what should i do. thanks in advance. #pleasenoticethis
If you're talking about moving the Anchor Point, then you might need to update to a newer version of Premiere Pro because Adobe changed the way the Anchor Point can be edited.
Oh and tell your CFO to chill. You are providing a valuable service to us pp users. I have a CFO just like yours and I’m finding it easier to ask forgiveness that permission. I do aerial videos mostly for real estate. I found your map tutorial helpful when drawing property outlines. My big issue is my bezier tool keeps showing the hand tool vs the draw tool.
Yes, you have to keep the CFO happy. She's great to me and she's taught me how to take time and really think about what I need because if I give it some time, I usually come to the conclusion that I didn't really "need" the next big thing. The mask tools in Premiere Pro are definitely "finicky" and require a lot of patience. Thanks for your support John. Speaking of maps, did you see this little test I did? th-cam.com/video/qJIRsIj4xp4/w-d-xo.html

It's very hard for me to tell what's happening without seeing your Project but my first thought is that you are not making a Nested Sequence, if you just Double-click a video clip, it will load in the Source Monitor so that's probably what's going on.
