We also came across some protests at the Merdeka Square while hunting for Indonesian street food! The ice cream at Rasgula Italian ice cream is the PERFECT way to cool down in Jakarta! We finished off the night with a set of 10 sate ayam from Sate Jaya Agung!

To be fair, the fried rice near my house is way tastier than the fried rice that you tried in this video. It's not the most flavorful one that lamb fried rice.

some other dishes you should try in Jakarta:
      1) Sop buntut (oxtail soup) at Hotel Borobudur
      2) Konro bakar (BBQ ribs, Makasar style) at Karebosi
      3) Gado-gado cemara (Indonesian salad with peanut dressing)
I always bring my foreigner friends to those 3 spots and get really positive feedback.

Yes, historians informed Taiwanese migrated to the Philippines then to Indonesia long long time ago. After the fall of Srivijaya Empire many Sumatrans/Kalimantanese migrated to southern Philippines.

I live in Jakarta ( kuningan) happy to see you enjoy the city. It is culinary heaven for foodie. Food from all over Indonesia is here. I have lived in greater Jakarta all my life and still there are gooe traditional food restaurants i havent sampled.

Hey Luke, great video like always. The cracker you're eating with the fried rice is called emping. It's made of melinjo nut seed which is actually bitter and has a texture like jengkol. But once it's made into crackers, it can be salted.

Another supeeeerb video and very local indeed! That nasi goreng kambing is one of my go to every weekend when i living there and it sure one of the better version of nasi goreng in Jakarta(even though they are inconsistent in tastes, sometimes). It seems gross when you see a mountain of rice and those weird mix, but it sure really taste better than it looks!. You both doing good job in exlploring just the way like local did! Waiting for anotheeer local food hunting!

Nasi goreng kebon sirih is my all time fave, it’s already there a long long time ago and the taste never change from the time when I still young 27 years ago. At first when I saw you eat the acar (spicy salad) alone without nasi goreng, I just laughed it coz you should eat with nasi, then after that you did it right, and it made the nasi more delicious right? And the price is right, from time to time they had to adjust the price due to the price of ingriedents. Thanks mate!

The cracker is made from belinjo. It is called emping. Kind of kerupuk but it has nutty flavour and taste a little bit bitter. It is usually a condiment for many dishes in Indonesia such as nasi goreng, soto betawi, sop buntut, etc.
Btw i really enjoy your video, you eat just like local does😄

Hey Luke, you ate the salad at the nasi goreng place the wrong way. Actually they're not salad, more like pickles I would say. You scoop your rice with that pickles on top of your rice bed on the spoon 😊
