I have a UZS171 (basically the same car as GS400 in terms of engine, transmission, suspension, etc) and I'm so motivated to try manual swap it after watching your videos. Thank you for this gold content.
Let us know if you end up doing it. The only thing that sucks honestly was losing VSC. Now that I have decent power and an LSD, I really have to be on my game because nothing else besides driving ability is going to save me from losing it in slick conditions. 🙃
Nice video! I did the ar5 to my is300 and it's been great. Used jack stands and hand tools along with some cheater bars for torque and it wasn't to bad. O'Reilly has nice one piece super long extensions for transmission jobs for anybody else doing a swap like this, these really helped out
I like how everything is explained in a orderly manner nice 👍 and for you doing this by yourself you deserve more subscribers 💯it doesn’t look easy but I’m excited for the final results!! Excellent video bro
I’ve been watching all your videos and I had to subscribe right away. Your instructions is on point and it makes me motivated to buy another gs400. Keep making dope videos! 10/10 for me 👍🏽
Very good video Christian! I learned a lot today, I already know how I will do when I go to do my swap to manual, I have a problem with my GS300 which has the plug that behind the transmission burned I have the 3f310, is there any site on the internet where I can get it or what Would you recommend me to do in that case? the car does not start by the switch nor does it present the transmission lights on the dashboard. Thanks in advance and greetings from the Dominican Republic.
Hi - do you know why the plug burned? I’d attack that first. If it just burned because it touched something and you need a new plug, I would order the plug and wire it in. I hope that helps a little. 👊
@@ForwardMomentum I don't know why the plug burned , I just bought the car like this. I never drove it. Do you know where can I get that plug and wiring diagram to wire it? I would get 2 just in case.
I have the GS300 pinout on one plug in my latest video, but it only shows the reverse wires and NSS wires. I believe you’ll need a LEXUS wiring FSM to get the full pinouts. Perhaps Toyota Info Services (TIS) has the FSM? You’ll have to pay for a day pass to get it if it’s there. I’d check that out. It concerns me why that plug burned up in the first place. Best of luck and I hope that helps a little.
@@ForwardMomentum yes I saw. That right plug it's what I need. I think that the plug burned because something hot touch it. Thanks anyway. I would just look for that page on internet. Thank you.
did my r154 swap in the dirt on jackstands. wasnt very fun, especially trying to wrestle a 150lbs transmission into the pilot. i ended up bolting the bell to the block first then bolting the gearbox to the bell through the inspection ports, also not fun.
Not yet. I would say power to the wheels is up 3-4% which is all related to efficiency, not to mention the MT being about 50-75lbs lighter, plus eliminating the torque converter (60lbs, rotational) and a lightened flywheel…it really made a noticeable difference. On top of it all are some favorable gear ratio differences. So the car really feels alive now. Conservatively I would say 10-15whp improvement, plus other benefits that won’t really show up on a dyno.
What do you think would be the pros/cons of doing the 3.71 gears diff swap on an auto as opposed to manual? Only wanting to stay auto because it’s gonna be my daily and I already have a race car!!
I think you mean 3.77 right? Keep in mind that’s what I did initially. I ran the diff swap with my auto. It makes a noticeable difference in acceleration. The diff is also a force multiplier. So if your trans is hanging in there by a thread like mine was, it may push it over the edge and smoke it. My 1-2 clutch pack got roasted and it slipped on the 1-2 shift at WOT after about a month. It’s rare, but it can happen. Just something to think about.
@@ForwardMomentum well I am planning on ordering a fresh motor/trans to build on. I’m doing a max effort setup on the motor following most of your videos on that stuff too. I’m not expecting 350whp but a big pep in its step would be nice. And then style wise you’ll see😎 my tuner said depending on the mods/supporting mods he could get me anywhere from 305-315whp with A 93 tune
@@shanerobinson1050 I don’t mean to trash your dreams, but the most whp I have ever seen on a FBO GS400 is 285whp. Getting over that hump requires a nudge, like NOS or a SC’r. Sucks, I know.
@@ForwardMomentum hey you’re not trashing anything when the time comes I’m gonna put in the work and when I’m all done we will see how it goes. Also idk about hp numbers on higher mileage motors but my build motor is going to be hopefully brand new or low mileage
@@ForwardMomentum also I’m trying to get the most hp out of my motor to compensate for the weight because my car is gonna be slabbed out but I don’t want to go boosted so anywhere close to 300whp I guess I will be happy
@@ForwardMomentum that is very true. But the power increase vs dollars spent seems to be worth it. Toyota exhaust is very restrictive from what i have found over the years. Keep up the great work love the videos
I have 98 gs400 and replacing the rear main seal been to several auto parts stores and no one knows the name of the seal above the rear main smh heard u say oil gallery seal?

I commend you for doing it the hard way. I can’t even imagine!
for anyone wondering. the gs300 nss & rs diagram is the same as a jzs161 aristo
Great video. What vehicle lift is that and do you recommend it please?
Stratus 9000E. Yes, I like it. However, they may have a newer version now.

interested if you did a dyno run after the swap? I would assume it would have a much higher WHP

Do you have link how to install cooler for transmission GS400?
I have an entire episode on this. See my other vids (stage 1 trans mods).
This is awesome!! Great work. Will you be doing ppe headers next?
Only if I get sponsored. $1200 is insane.

Correct. The OEM log style manifold isn’t great. Headers are good for 25whp and up to 40wTQ with a proper tune I’m told. I would love that.

Oil galley seal. Dealer part. I should have the PN in the vid description of EP1.

Thank you. I sold the VB separately and scrapped the trans because it was slipping. I think I got $30 for it. Sorry!
Were the 2 red wires for reverse light baclup lights and 12v?
Yes

Hey question, if im just replacing the transmission with a new one should I not cut the oil lines like you did in the video?
Leave as much intact as you can if you’re replacing.
