In this video I decided to try and create my first ever 3d game as a 2d pixel art game developer. I had a great time trying out Godot and would love to continue developing games in both 2D and 3D moving forward. Let me know your thoughts in the comments on what I should try making next (or what engine)!

Welcome home, Godot Brother.
LMAO of course, I told you it would happen at some point. Now we just need to fly across the lake and make a video together irl :)
Unity > Godot

@@b_b_g_munfortunately yeah.
"how i mastered godot in 5 days" = had 7 years of practice before trying the same type of thing for a 4th time XD (but fr, proud to always see people learning more every day)
I mastered Godot by 1 month working on my Sandbox open world to test all knowledge and feature I learned.
Godot is hard for beginners. Tons of node system. But it's honestly worth the try!
I made games in Scratch and Pocket Code for 5 years now. And recently tried Unity on 2022. But given that Godot satisfied me.... I can say Godot is my platform!!!
No more childish code
that's gonna be useful with the new unity pricing.
Haha yeah definitely
No matter it's 2d or 3d bro's art looks insane
Thank you, glad you think so haha
ayy lambert wassup!
@@IDENTICYEA yoooo
if you were wondering how he got that art plugin its called magicavoxel
I think now anyone can become an independent game developer with the availability of all these free open source tools out there.
Very nice work, really encouraging. 👍👍👍
Thanks Eduard! Appreciate the kind words
Really awesome video to watch, thank you for putting this together
You really impresed me reece on trying out 3D game dev for a first go. Really fun interesting borrowed concept from a previous game of yours to. Loved how ya managed to make a fun little simple racing style collectathon arcade game out of the platformer. After seeing this it inspired me to actually give learning a engine like godot and game maker studio a try now since they both use similar language to python which I've been learning the past year with pygame. Thanks for these encouraging style videos Reece.
Awesome video! It was exciting to see you try out Godot :D
Also, it would be cool to see you try out the 2D side of it in a future video!
I love the good vibes of your videos. I'm super fan of the godot engine. So... I'll keep an eye on your next moves 😉
Thanks Revi!
Talk about good timing
Loving the video, my friend and I want to try and build something and seeing your process helps. Hitting sub for future inspiration
(PS: donkey kong in left ear only hurts my brain)
Ahhh this is so cool! Proud of you for jumpin into Godot! It's a deep world!
Thanks Casey! It’s been a long time coming but I finally took it on haha
i've been a fan for 2 years and i'm so proud of how far you've come
Thanks Octo! Appreciate it :)
Damn this video aged well 😭
what do u mean
@@octos_art around about when I commented this unity came up with an insane new pricing policy that caused a lot of devs to move to godot. Some have come back since (unity has somewhat rectified their decision) but some have decided to stay with godot
@@octos_art bro where you've been this week
@@octos_art Unity went rogue.
I have a suggestion for a form of movement: Rocket Jumping. Basically if you haven’t played tf2 it’s a form of movement where you have a rocket launcher and if you shoot the ground your rocket explodes on contact and pushes you away from it. Chaining this with jumping lets you fly upwards.
Cool art dude 🎉 And such a fun little game, reminds me of parkouring in Minecraft, but guns always make it better...
I don’t plan on making any games like this anytime soon but I like watching your creative process! Its helped me with my own and trying new things
Glad I can help in some way! Keep it up :)
yoooooo this looks so cool i am amazed by how you did this fast. i wish i had your skills
Thanks! It definitely wasn't easy, but I can't let you guys down with consistent content so I tried my best to create something fun and easy in a small amount of time to get myself familiar with the new game engine!
@@ReeceGeofroy
thx for inspiring me to make games, and pixel art ofc.
Goodgis really rubbing off on you! I love to see it!
You got yourself a new subscriber!
Good timing to learn a new engine
on the jump bridge thing u should put an alligator pit with them jumping out so when you look down you get a cool visual
Excellent Game! Needs some polish and it's ready for the app store 🎉🥳
Fantastic seeing you step into a new dimension! What happened to game makers 3D stuff? I remember making 3D games in 2013.
I've always shyed away from 3D because I really deep down don't want to learn to make 3D models 😵💫 Aghh 2D graphics are bother enough lol. Excellent video as always Reece! I might give GoDot a try at some point :D
I just like the coding part of video games. I wish art could just pop into existence lol.
This is really cool broo!!!
Thank you!
with unity pretty much making itself obsolete it looks like i'm learning godot now too.
haha good luck! :D
You should add a sliding mechanic and a momentum mechanic so you dont just stop after gun launching and you could gun launch into a slide to gain more speed. Idk just a thought
How timely HAHA
My left year is enjoying it
Looking good 😘👌, your game looks neat too
Thanks Jay!
I love that you're using godot
what game engine do you normally use? do you use game maker?
Respect this guy 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
Banger video as usual fam
Thanks brother! :D
You said you understand how a collision works in 2D but not in 3D anymore, how you do this collision?
Because it works identically for me in both cases
How did you overcome the inheritance part? It's quite cumbersome to make everything inherited
Does anyone know what program he used to make the Voxel Art? The models were quite good and the entire itself looked easy to use, was wondering as I want to start learning myself!
Hey! I used magikavoxel to make the models :)
This video (the title) has to be linked in the definition of the Dunning-Kruger Effect 😂
really nice video! but how much hours exactly you spend on this 3d game? on learning godot/actually making game
I’d say about 15-20 hours total with learning included :)
donkey kong music i believe, nice/ also what is a good voxelart application to use
First off...I love Milanote....I have been using it for my design documentation.
Great video, just found your channel and subscribed! Have you ever worked with a team of developers or only solo? I find it daunting to find help on my games as a I dont personally know anyone who has the skillset to assist me.
I've worked with other youtubers for game jams and fun competitions, I also worked with a couple other people on my last commercial game Monster Tribe, but I currently am looking to work solo till I find my next big idea :)
@@ReeceGeofroy Well good luck on your next title! I'll have to check out more of your stuff, game dev is just so interesting to me! I will have my own studio one day soon hopefully and make the best games on the market! No predatory business practices, just games made for fun not profit, theres nothing wrong with profit of course, but not at the expense of morals and ethics.
I have a recommendation for a game idea, a first-person, atmospheric, stylized-fantasy art style, "dungeon crawler" where you fight massive hordes of enemies with melee or ranged weapons and spells. The player experience should make them feel powerful and excited slashing through waves of goblin grunts, terrifying spiders, ancient skeletons, etc. Fairly challenging, but not overly difficult. A mix between Warhammer Vermintide and Dark Souls maybe? Thats the idea I had and I think a prototype would be very promising. Maybe RPG elements too because who doesn't like that? It's a simple concept in writing but theres so much more I have in mind I don't want to write a 10 paragraph essay in a YT comment lol
Bro i am just a beginner game dev can you please say which software you used to make the 2d map and 3d modeling
Can you post the project's source code? I wanna know how you did the whole shoot and push thing.
Thanks in advance!
good job dude. welcome to Godot! What software do you use for the Voxel?
I have the same question! Any help folks?
@@GreedFeed Hi, it's MagicaVoxel

in ehat program did you make the art?
What happened to the Auto Runner Card Game? :o
What software did you use to create the 3D models in this video? Any answer is appreciated ^^
I used magikavoxel for the models!
What program are u using to make those at 3:40 ?
speedrunning time lol
Would love to release a full version of the game with levels and a speed running gameplay feature! 1,000 likes and it'll come to life for the public!
@@ReeceGeofroy even that demo seems fun to speedrun
I've been studying game development since 1994 (multiple degrees now) and teenagers on the internet are mastering it infinitely faster than I (never) did lol. I'll just sit here with my clay and be jealous....
warning: he makes it look super easy
Did you clean your models up at all before importing them into the engine? MagciaVoxel export with a lot of polygons.
I did not, not sure how to go about doing that but I have been having some troubles with my 3D models now that you say that 😅
What’s the voxel program you used…?
my left year enjoys the donkey kong theme very much. nice video tho :)
oops! haha glad you enjoyed though
im pretty syure you have to convert voxel to make it performance efficient, it seem to have a bit of a jitter the game, but that could be the camera.
I believe that's just my laptop slowly dying from age, the game runs perfectly smooth off recording software :)
@@ReeceGeofroy well just keep in mind if you ever want to make it something bigger using voxels, they arent the best with gpus
how do you make the 1st person
I really want to learn a 3D engine.
I always wanted to try, so I took a couple days to break down the foundation of Godot, if you can make 2D games I hope this shows that just about anyone can make 3D games as well! :)
I'd recommend Unity, I know Godot is rising in popularity fast, but it still has nowhere close to the online resources and developer base that Unity has. Haven't tried Unreal engine enough to have an opinion on it, though its obviously also pretty popular.
well made!
Thanks!
How and where did you learn GDScript
wow i just found your pixel courses on sale now. had them bookmarked and was going to start them now. good timing! thanks. Do you have a discord community?
which software is he using at 3:25?
hey Reece, what's the Voxel Art software you were using?
Its called MagicaVoxel :D
man, you really dodged a bullet with unity lol
Yeahh crazy timing to be learning a new engine and finding an alternative haha
@@ReeceGeofroyyeah looks like Godot's prime time has finally come lol.
Btw it seems you'll be reaching 1k likes soon. Will you be expanding this game as mentioned?
I badly want to get into godot, simply making a story based pixel art game.. but I do not know coding whatsoever lol
what program did you use for making the voxel models?
I used magikavoxel :)
What app did you use to create your 3d voxel art?
I used Magikavoxel!
is the game running 10 fps?
Very Cool Congrats! (BTW Third)
Thanks! Can't wait to develop more 3D games and try new game engines!
What is the software u use in 3D modeling in ur video
Wasted 1 hour to find that softwere cant find
Broo pls help so frustrating...... Anyone pls help
I use Magikvoxel, hope that helps!
What's the voxel editor you were using called?
Magica voxel. Used it to make my games
I actually wanna play this lol
If we get 1,000 likes I'll make a full version and release it as a speedrunning rage game haha
welcome to godot and also massive leap to 3d man since i watch your video course of 2d pixels both the basics and the character course. the game looks awesome.
nice :D
What's the software you were using to create the models at 3:36 ?
Found out online it's Magicka Voxel I think?
I would learn how to save to a "file" and then load(reload that file) into the world BEFORE learning how to create 3D models or Audio.
Godot offers serializing and variable save and load system.
Take note, Godot 4.2 is different from Godot 3 or early so you must keep trying.
I tried learning making models on blender btw and it will ruin your life... LITERALLY! Audio? There's studio for that brother.
Congratulations, it's a good start in Godot, I'm glad to see more people joining Godot, with what has happened with Unity, I know there are many who will hate that engine, lately the "Unity owners" they apologized and are going to make some corrections but now with what they did, trust has been lost
Y dont u make this a full game?
do more
Meanwhile I have given up coding for video games dispite being able to make a complaexe Table Top game from scratch which should be harder then making a pill dude move via my inputs... But I'm just unable to dispite also being a Super savant master of everyting creative... But yeah code for a video game even just copy and paste nope... Still the game looks fun not that broken just need to rethink the geometry a bit.
What is the name of the app u are using to make notes
It's called Milanote!
I wanted to learn a 3D engine, but for some reason the software im using closes everytime i open it. very cool video tho
Try Unity, in my experience its super reliable
@@rumham8124 the problem is, that the software i'm using IS unity. probably just a problem with my computer.
@@rumham8124 unity is the slowest and buggiest of them all
I've always thought that unreal takes longer to load and open projects, but apparently not
unreal still opens quicker despite it being packed with a whole lot more features
This video aged well.
BRO i made a nearly identical first game when i first started using unreal. (i will neither confirm nor deny if your game was better....)
haha thats awesome!
Someone know what is the voxel editor he used? I'am interested on it LOL
I used MagikaVoxel to make my models! Hope this helps 😁
@@ReeceGeofroy Thanks, i'am making a 2D game, but i mostly can turn it in 3D, but as you, have just used blender as a toy, soo, voxels are easier to handle. Maybe not to my ongoing project, bur new ones will be nice to have a great voxel tool to use
nice vid
Thanks David!
After words "I make video games for seven years" I wrote this comment and closed the video. What use does it has for a beginner game dev? An experienced specialist mastered a new instrument of his trade for whole five days, the sensation of the year.
Yo
Make a 3d survival game in godot ( OR YOU CANT DO THAT )
Sounds like hell...but yes definitely need to do that
And now you have to learn programming? Because that takes a lot longer than 5 days. Even if you switch from C# to GDScript or to C# for Godot. But otherwise great video. 😉
I think im first
Edit : im second 🙃 nice game ❤
How to learn Godot in 5 days:
Gamedev for 7 years first lol
great video but i literally cant handle the music constantly drumming in one ear the entire time...its like torture.
Sorry about that, sometimes I forget to review the video with headphones 😭
unreal is not that scary with blueprints. but everyone is diverent.
different
Completely see how it would be much easier with blueprints, however I find drag and drop coding a little tedious and slow. Developing in unreal was just not something I thought I could learn over a weekend so maybe in a future episode I'll give it a real go and see if it works for me!
😂😂😂
