    I am not a pro at any of the trades featured in this video. So this can be done by nearly anyone. You just need two main things: determination & time.
    I have worked in the construction business very briefly as a worker and then as supervisor for a few years. After that I did construction estimating for another 5 years or so, but my actual current job for the last 12 years+ has been sports video editing. So I apologize to the pros community in advance if something is not up to par here ;) but I strongly believe in alternative ways of building things. Even though an industry would like to tell you something cannot be done "the right way" unless you hire a pro, it's simply not true. I don't believe there is only one right way of doing something. I think we all have to find our right way.
    Anyways, if you have any questions about what I did and why, fire away and I will try to answer them the best I can!
    I trust my instincts and I do like to work with my hands (I like carpentry work especially) but I do play it by ear, figuring things out as I go along.
    I don't like making detailed plans ahead of time.
    My process:
    1. get an idea
    2. watch some TH-cam videos. A lot of TH-cam videos.
    3. tell the wife
    4. watch her roll her eyes at me
    5. plunge right into the project without making a clear plan
    6. figure things out along the way
    Like someone said: "if you know what you are doing, you are not learning anything"
    The project took a long time since we did all the work ourselves. About 2 months give or take.
    It cost upwards of $4k in materials.
    See the description area for a full parts and materials list.
    Thanks for watching!

      Very creative, love the idea I'm starting to plan my spring project and this is a great idea, question, how's is holding up, I'm a carpenter by trade and I like the idea of the 2xs framing for the walls (in on my field) just wondering if you had any sagging or movement by the water weight pressure against the walls, thanks

    • @Red.Scapes
      @Red.Scapes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@DavidJDM Thanks! No movement so far. It's a strong structure considering you have the 2x4s held in place by the plywood and durock screwed in every 8 inches or so and then a full mortar backing and then the tile. Time will tell but so far it feels as strong as making it out of concrete.
      The only issue I encountered so far was the caulking on the inside corners. Had to be replaced a few times because I used the wrong stuff (silicone) and then after getting the correct marine grade caulk (see description) I had to fix a few spots because they got loose due to my negligence when I applied it. You really have to dry & clean the area properly (using rubbing alcohol) and then let the caulk sit for more then 72 hours in temperature higher then 55 or so to cure. I used a heater with the covers on since it is winter here already.

      I'm not giving it a thumbs up or down but I hope no one does it this way. Those tiles are liable to pop off because he did not use the proper techniques. And the safety issues when he was cutting those tiles for the pipes! I was cringing as I watch those bare hands that close to an open blade. There's also gonna be a LOT of moisture issues in the structure from the ground. All I'm saying is if you're gonna do a diy project (especially if kids are involved) do your research and make sure you're following ALL safety precautions.

      @jaime del salto Hi, thank you for watching!
      The hot tub is doing great. No major issues or movement. We did have some problems with the caulk on the inside corners (kept coming off even when using marine boat caulk) so we ended up doing 2 coats of epoxy pool paint over the tile. The color change was also welcome.
      But the overall construction is holding up very well. No major movement after 3 winters.

    • @jaandel1
      @jaandel1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Red.Scapes thanks its impressive also i have winter here NJ. But how you handle water or pipe frezze i cant still figure it out.
      Caulk issue probably bc of chlorine in the water.. maybe change filter system

    • @Red.Scapes
      @Red.Scapes  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. Chlorine is probably the culprit for the caulk failures.
      As far as pipes freezing, we keep the water level in the tub lower then the pipes so as to not have them full of water over the winter but still keep enough water in the tub to be over the ground level to help with the walls not pushing in from the freezing ground pressure.

And a PVC bowl from a standard Chinese frame pool is added inside. 30 cubic meters swimming space. Budget less than $1000 (including filter pump, lighting and wooden patio around the pool). I admire the effort you put in on this project. A couple of things that will be helpful in the future: Before putting up the tile, do mesh and a layer of mud to make all the surfaces perfectly flat. You need 100% bonding of the tile and thin set for constant submersion. It’s pretty much impossible to get that without doing a aforementioned step. The only other thing I would have added would be a floor drain. Things settle, switching the filter to pull from the bottom from time to time makes life easy. Nice work!

    Well done. Word of caution using your tile saw to make those “circle cuts”. Buy a diamond circle cutter or use an angle grinder. The lateral pressure on your arbor DESTROYS the main and slave bearing in the armature.
