  • With this video I try to show why using the correct filter and cap is important. along with possible causes of your oil pressure dropping out at idle.

Wow sometimes the little things get overlooked, something such as an oil filter being a little taller than the other one can cause havoc on the trucks engine, I never knew about Ron till the other day I traded a 02 Banshee for a 04 Ford F350 from an older guy who has no desire about diesel trucks(supposedly) and he wanted the ATV for his son that races Banshees, anyway truck was a daily driver till Crank no start and he has someone take a look at it and told him a sensor was bad, causing a leak where the oil cooler is, I took it all apart and I’m waiting for parts now, But Mr Ron May he R.I.P. is teaching me how to work on a diesel engine,I’m very mechanically inclined, and very quick learner, it broke my heart to find out how he passed away, I’m greatly appreciated he left this videos to help others, because it saves me/us who know how to work on our own engine thousands of dollars from the shops. Thank you Mr Ron R.I.P. and may God bless your family as well.

Great video! Thanks for pulling the oil cooler housing off and showing demo of exactly what you are talking about. Some of us are visual learners and some are instructional learners. Your video provides both.

Wow. Just changed the oil in my new to me 6.0. Didn’t realize there was an aftermarket filter in. Totally saved me time on diagnosing my problem. Ty

I would like to add since I had this problem with a Motorcraft filter and Ford cap that in my case I did not have the cap tightened enough and seemed to cause the same issue. When I did this I replaced the filter so it could have been a bad filter but everything looked fine. But either the cap was not tight enough or a bad filter was the cause of my issue.

good stuff Ron .... in your opinion using a filter that comes with its own cap( we could go into brands but that's another story) the correct dimensions are present or a compromise in function (6.4) ..... or is the only %100 way to be certain to use a motorcraft/racor with a factory cap

The truck starts fine but runs really rough... The oil pressure drops as soon as the truck heats up... What step do you recommend first...?
Thanks Ron for the Great Videos...

ok, so i have this problem on an 04
service place did the oil maybe 7 months ago, no issues, i now know that they used a napa filter with napa cap that does not remove from the filter.
i did two 400 mile hauls recently hauling furniture then hay, at the end of the second haul i fueled up and as i was driving away the check gauge light is on but the gauges all looked ok, i was driving slowly so the rpm's were up. 30 miles later at the house light is on again an no oil pressure at idle, goose it to 950 oil pressure jumps up.
i add a quart of oil no change, then i go get oil and a napa filter, and after replacing it all, no start at all, just cranks and cranks, then i see issues on the net about these after market filters.
so i go to ford and get a filter, and a 40 dollar cap cause the service place that did my oil with the napa filter tossed my 40 dollar cap.
after replacing the filter an cap with ford oem, started right up, then cut off, cranked it some and it fired up, then after it warmed up, the low oil pressure on idle is back.
im wondering if the drainback valve might be the issue, tomorrow i am going to take the cap off push in the filter and put some oil in the filter housing to see if it leaks down.
assuming its not the valve, and this is a 2004, where is that ball bearing, and why in the world would it be missing in the firstr place, keep in mind, this truck was driven thousands of miles with the after market filter with no issues, then after two 400 mile hauling trips, this oil low pressure issue started.

06, E350 6.0, changed the oil and filter, literally the same as the one prior, start the van up 2 seconds and the oil pressure gauge drops to 0 (off position). I’ve drained the oil filter and started the van and the housing is full, I’ve resealed the filter housing due to leakage but later to realize it’s leaking from where the hoses go into the assembly underneath the van. It’s leaking like it’s never been before. Could my housing assembly be damaged? As I’ll seal the new oil filter+cap, same dripping at same spots

I have an 05 6.0 that is doing the same thing with the oil pressure, I have changed the oil filter out, change the sensor and and am still getting low pressure at idle when the engine is warm. Could that still be the ball bearing on the high pressure pump? Or should I check something else

Have any recommendations for a 2002 7.3 that drops oil pressure when coming up to a stop or idle?

    • @burrejo
      @burrejo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

You're not going to like it....replaced the low pressure oil pump which is located behind the crank pully with a melling that flows more volume of oil....but I found my front cover of the engine scored behind the old pump...ended up lifting the cab pulling and replacing oil pan and engine front cover...about $1600 worth of parts later and hours and hours and hoursx20 later. I have better oil pressure. But not a crazy amount more but enough the gauge doesn't drop anymore. After seeing what I went through I would seriously debate selling the truck or just driving it till the motor goes and you have to lift the cab off anyways. Lol
