The way to separate the pan is by putting one of the bolts into the little square metal thing that’s next to one of the bolt holes toward the front of the pan. It doesn’t have a hole to thread into so it pushes the pan off a bit, then you use PLASTIC or WOOD tools to pry/separate it the rest of the way.

Thanks for the added tip. Didn't notice it on the oil pan.

    That was a great video.
I need to remove the lower timing cover on my 09 c300 4matic sport. I am told I need to remove the lower oil pain & lift the engine up. Do you have a video on that?
Your help will be very much appreciated.

Just for your info guys, you don’t have to pry or use a screwdriver and pound to remove the pa . There supposed to be a three hole and use the same screw you removed from the pan and screw those in the three hole and that will speed out the cover. Gods job guys. God bless

Thanks for the added Tip. I'm not sure if this particular pan had a different way to break the oil pan free.

I had a lower pan oil leak in a 2003 Hyundai Elantra it's been fixed with the permatex The Right stuff gasket maker.. but now for some reason when I use my heat in my car it is so hot that it's unbearable.
Could this have anything to do with the oil leak fixed prior to that it was nowhere near as hot as it is now it's so hot I can't stand it.

That repair has nothing to do with the heat.

Yes, Once you have finished replacing the gasket on the oil pan you should start the car and check the oil pan for leaks.

OMG the pounding of the oil pan….really? There is a threaded hole for you to simply install a pusher bolt and it will literally pop right off. Curious how much aluminium you gouged off of the upper pan??

  • @encinobalboa

Geeze, RTV is not toothpaste. Squeeze out could separate from pan and clog oil passages and pump screen.

Oh my goodness guys. Maybe consult the repair manual next time? This is not a good guide video for such a relatively simple job.
Don't pound the oil pan loose. That's a great way to warp the oil pan or chip the aluminium block.
Don't use RTV sealant like toothpaste. 1-2mm bead is well enough, otherwise you risk clogging up your oil pickup.

It is not too bad to reseal the oil pan. If you follow the video you should be okay. Hope the video helps you out.

You need to apply a decent bead or else you will end up with a leak. Believe me I've seen it happen.
