- Mercedes Oil Separator Crankcase Vent Valve PVC Breather Cover & Expansion Plugs,
So if your cam caps or the oil separator is leaking its a pretty simple and easy fix. When you start the car and when it warms up you see smoke coming from the back of the engine just look down at the exhaust and see if it has oil on it, some bad leaks you will see a oil spot under the car. Then just see if its the caps or the cover and change it and your oil leak is fixed!

Dude! It would be a lot easier to get to the part if you remove the back engine cover first. It is just snapped on like the front one.

You can use a 8mm 12 point wrench. This made the job so easy for me.
U just dont know how much headache u saved me i been out here mad as shit in 30 degree weather trying to get those 2 bolts off with vice grips

This is a great video! I picked up the parts for about $120 Canadian from Mercedes Dealer for the caps and the breather cap. The bottom bolt is really difficult to get at as you can't see it and there is no room for the socket and the ratchet. I had to use the vice grip on the socket. Also make sure you put a towel in there to prevent the socket from falling onto the under carriage. Otherwise you will have to take the under carriage off to get the socket. Dealer wanted $250 in labour to this work. I managed to get it done and no leaks now. Taking the engine cover off will give more room to work with.

First and foremost, if you're.
Car smoking, make sure that your oil cap is properly placed on the engine. And that your oil filter housing is also secure. Then, proceed to check the valves

didn't catch what you said that plat looking plug with the small rubber whose connect to it that at the top was... you said that's where the smoke is coming from. please tell me what is that plug called. thanks

Oil could of gotten past and into the intake causing issues. What did you find?
On my e350 when I accelerate it makes a chirping noise only when i accelerate?

THANK YOU! my 2009 w211 had a weird smell for a couple days and I finally put my hand back there and there was oil residue on the bottom of that black thing that you showed. I wasn't sure what needed to be done. Sure enough I look down and see the oil residue on the exhaust/o2 sensor on the passenger side. This is a great video! Just need to find part numbers now.

@@bills1995vette, yep super easy. They had everything on FCP's site as a kit. Hasn't leaked aftre replacement since last year. Surpringly pretty easy to do the install just like what the video showss.

Thanks! I just bought a used ML350 2011. You can smell oil burning, like the valve cover gasket is leaking. I will check this tomorrow and see if it is this scenario.

Great repair. Have parts from fcp euro right now going to be repairing soon. One thing I noticed when doing spark plug and air filter replacements. It's so much easier to work around the engine or in the bay in general by removing the engine cover and intake pipes. They snap on and if they were hand tight I would be careful with the locktite. If it came off easy it should go on and be able to come back off. Just need it snug to keep the pressure and oil from leaking

Does the left cylinder head have the same problem? Mine has a leak up on the left back side of the engine. We just bought the car and found a steady drip on the upper rear left side.

Will this solve my problem? my current issue with my 2007 e350 is that it was smoking from the left of the engine on the passenger side and ever since I changed the Oil and filter yesterday, it smoked from everywhere else, What else could be the problem?

Except you skipped the hardest parts...never showed how to get the bolts out...just poof and its done...

Hey dude I know it's a year later but in case you happen to get this, whatever ended up happening with your fix? I have the same thing with my 2008 C300. Intermittent smoking from the back of engine and a smell that comes into the car sometimes. Curious if I could pick your brain

Does this happen on M271 motor too, I have same smoke problem.
It's not just E and M. C also has that and I believe pretty much all Mercedes with this engine has this problem. Even the new model still has the same engine as of date.
If you find the pcv breather cover leaking, you should follow the tube that goes into the maf elbow. I am sure those are all gunked with oil residues. Next you will find the Throttle body/butterfly will be gunked with oil residues too. Now, if you find that, your next problem that is building up is the intake manifold that is getting gunked with oil residues and would be an up coming project.

I have oil leaking ONLY all along the (facing the engine) the left hand side of the engine. Only on the left side of the engine. The right side is dry as it can be.
So maybe I have a bigger problem than you have there? I really hope not!
What would be your diagnosis with oil only leaking on that left side?

What's the normal cost to fix the breather cover leak?
I have a centrifuge cover leak and bad vacuum pump. White smoke comes from my exhaust when I accelerate to higher speeds. Can those be the cause?

Same part number for a 2009 part stores cant find it
You have to check the mating part for a wear ridge and change it if needed.

I did mine both pieces oil drip separator and the metal piece inside . I drove my ml 350 for over a month but there's still oil in the hose that got to the intake manifold. Is that normal please I need an answer, thanks
What did you ever find. FCP Euro video talks about issues with oil getting by and into the intake.

Good video, thank you. Do you recommend preventive replacement of that crankcase breather on Mercedes engines fitted with this type? If so, every how many thousand miles, or time?
It's so simple to fix id just wait until you need to replace it. But seems like around 100k to 140k a lot of the orings and seals get hard and small leaks.

I don't think so. The M112/113 didn't have these caps IIRC, just M272 and M273. The CGI versions have the fuel pump there, so one less cap as well. 113K has those funny chambers on top of the valve covers that need looking at instead.

Yes I have a 2009 c300 luxury and its the same thing. Except you need a t30 torx bit and locking pliers to get the torx fasteners out.
Just to show how pathetic some of the german technology is runs oil onto exhaust and they can catch fire!
Good idea to change the oil pan: 273 010 01 62, I bought one but don't what e-torx get it off. My car has 130K on it.
