I am waiting for my N5 - this "amateur" review was one of the best I have -and I have seen a lot. The breakdown is almost the next best thing to having the device -nice work!

Very nice review Erica. It's great that the issues you mentioned have been fixed since you filmed this. As I'm sure you know, the camera software has improved dramatically and now produces very good and sharply focused images. The HDR+ mode is superb.

No absolutely not. I think the battery issues are overrated or I haven't ran into any drain issues since I've had the device.
how long can u make it last so far?
Well I only got it yesterday..so can't give you a great answer. I'm over 4 hours now and still have 83 percent battery.

LOL it says "mini" but your "mini" is more complete than other reviewers. and I love that you show the graphics about color saturation. very professional.
I have questions: is the back cover removable? becoz if it is, I can then buy more batteries, since the bat sucks.
I have impression that the screen really "jumps" at me. Is it that remarkable when you look at it in person? and is the LCD screen glossy? I mean does it give a lot of reflection? and if it does, is it annoying?

Hey Erica, great stuff as per usual. I've had a Nexus 5 since it's release. Try re flashing the stock image. Fixed all my strange battery issues. Now I get 5 hours screen on time and amazing standby time. Have a read on the XDA forums. It looks like your phone has the issues many were having. Also kill WiFi scanning and use Lux to control auto brightness.
loved this review.. i haven't had any problems personally though because this is just heaven compared to my old iPhone. Do you know when its most likely that we will see an update to fix some of the bugs?

Hey Dan my, I got a Nexus 6. I think its a flagship phone and it is real nice. I saw the review and didn't see the one hr though, but everything she is talking about that wasn't totally great, is solved on the nexus 6! I think nexus 7 is a tablet and can't call and text.
That's what I have. I like it, but it restarts at random times. Has your done that?

I have the 6 and it improved all the things she said was problems except volume button. Probably so you can use it in a case.

How does the battery compare it the iPhone 5 or 5s? I have an iPhone 5 and it seems to be okay on medium use for me.
I would say in reference to the battery life I actually charge my phone at 12 a.m. To get off battery at 7 a.m. And only dropped three percent from a hundred percent . But I was mindful of turning all the applications that I had open of task and didn't force close anything either but only one gmail account running I would say that a pretty good job!
Great review as always Erica! The battery draining issue you are seeing with this device seems like it could be related to the wakelock function of chrome cast as you say or google hangouts, especially when the battery is being drained over night when the screen is off. To confirm this, one could download an app called "wakelock detector" to see what's keeping the phone from going into deep sleep state, Thnx for a good "mini" review, keep 'em comming!
You got it...this is how it was possible to know in the first place :)
Erica Griffin And there's another app called "App Settings" that lets you change permissions regarding the wakelock function for every installed app individualy. So the problem can for most of the times be solved manually. But it is of course still unacceptable that the problem exists in the first place.
Wakelock detector is not compatible with KitKat. The developer of BetterBatteryStats explains the reason in a G+ post.

Hi Erica, would welcome your thoughts on some phones. I recently bought a second hand S4 (im a poor student! and the thing died on me after a month!! Turns out i was sold a lemon, the screen had been poorly replaced and excess glue ruined the phone. Went to Windows and the phone itself is great but for some reason, it willl not upload any photos onto FB. Its been like that since i upgraded to Windows 8.1. So considering going back to Android. I dont have a lot of money so cant afford a fancy phone. I use a lot of FB, Ebay and Amazon and text a lot so need a phone to work with these needs. At the moment i am torn between a Nexus 5 and Moto G 2014. What would you recommend getting? I like taking photos and posting on FB, so camera needs to be good quality. Any advice welcome. Thanks. Did you notice the frame drop in the TH-cam app? If you compare with the iPhone the playback on the nexus 5 is dead slow. It's this normal on android?
I have a nexus 5 and I found a disappointing feature.
When the screen shows dark images you can notice the backlight gets brighter in the top left corner. what is more, of you rotate the phone in landscape, putting the left corner as your bottom one, you can visibly notice that the whole left side (the actual bottom one if in portrait) is brighter, regardless you are watching something brought or dark.
Can you tell me if it's something you found in your nexus 5 as well or should I ask for a replacement?
Please, tell me if the ear speaker noise problem from nexus 4 has been fixed!

You seem to have an awesome personality.
Also pretty much all cell phones battery charging circuit is current limited to about 2 or 2.1 Amps. Even if u plug a higher rated charger the device will only draw 5V at the max current of 2.1A.

Not everyone has 2-3 hours to watch through a review. Its just that different publications cater to different people.

Id like to get a Nexus 5, but with the battery it concerns me.. I always wanted to be an android user (WP8 User) and compared to the HTC X8 which lasts me for a good day (1800mah) would I see a better battery lifetime? Because WP8 is such a simple clean OS and android is too but the glitches that are happening are making me doubt that. Should I look at a different device?
Does it live up to its expectations as In running smooth?
I am using nexus5 ROM port on nexus 4 and battery life has improved :)
when phone is on standby during the night I don't even loose 1% of the battery and that is just awesome.

really need your opinion.
I am going to buy a new phone and have to choose from xperia z Ultra and Nexus 5.
I really like z Ultra`s huge screen but I am afraid that those waterproof thingies will fall off and there is no wireless charging. Also that screen protector it has installed - how hard is to replace it. But Nexus brings OIS and wireless and huge dev support (I am flashagolic)

Why haven't you done a full HTC One review yet?
Well.. How fast is that charging? And the difference beetween 1.2A and 2A :) I guess it doesn't matter that I'm form EU and the voltage coming from the wall socket is 220V.. It's the same.
