And yet even when we all know tech advances and gets cheaper they keep telling us rising movie, tv and game flat prices/subscriptions/monetizing are due to skyrocketing development costs, while the end results themselves have not advanced, either stagnating or even regressing. Hmm...
It wouldn't surprise me if movie makers are making more money now than at any time in history. So many major expenses are cut because of computers, all the way up to the actors. Yet, the cost of a ticket, popcorn and a drink keep going up.

one thing this video glosses over is how big of a difference the new Coil pro device Rokoko is releasing (but in limited qualities) Before this innovation the suit on its own was subject to almost any kind of magnetic interference, including the steel beams inside of your home, so for some people this was not an option. I was advised my many users to NOT get this suit until now with the Coil Pro now The Rokoko suit and the cube is the best price for value option out there today.
0:25 this suit CAN NOT replace professional tools which is used in Holywood/AAA gamedev/etc. Just look for reviews on youtube from people who bought it. Suit is by no means bad, but saying that it could "replace professional tools" is too big of exageration
Until prices go down, I'd stick with a blend of Vive 3 and Tundra trackers. They be more precise than any IMU, without having to recalibrate often. And those there be a cost to them, they would still cost far less than this suit. As cool as it may be to use.
Eventually something like this could be useful for things like at home physical therapy or learning physical skills, maybe with additional sensors for showing which muscles are activating.

Why would you want to "Hard Reset" or start over on something like Rokoko? Why not build on what Rokoko has to offer? Every time you do the a Hard Reset story it's about something that shows we don't need to reset and start over; it shows the opposite. Let's keep building more of the types of things that you are featuring in your Hard Reset stories instead of destroying them and starting over. Much more productive for every one.
Hey, thanks for watching! We definitely agree - Hard Reset is all about the technologies and ideas we’re excited about. We profile them because they invite us to reimagine the world from the ground up and they make us question the assumptions we have about how the world works. We don’t want to start over on something like Rokoko - we just love the possibilities that it creates!
@@NickFromHardReset Hi Nick, I do enjoy you and your reporting of these great stories, however you literally say at the beginning of every video that this "is a series about rebuilding our world from scratch".
@@freethink def should pin my comment: essentially we went to SIGGRAGPH to buy a mocap system - one really needs to go in person to see things. Rokoko had the best performance and price range that we saw. For alot of creators their coil will help tremendously in getting smooth data. We have two separate teams one in Utah and another in San Fran. I t has helped tremendously for us and probably saved weeks of work - we are taking about Mocapping for entire virtual world's with utility for things such as education., Nothing is perfect, there are things to improve however I lastly like to add that the Rokoko Support is pretty fast and that you should pay close attention to their ecosystem. What they have so far works well and I assume the addition to rokoko vision has a place and audience along with being the right move amongst the new AI stuff. I would 10/10 recommend them, in the end one must understand the scope of their projects. Is it live performance, virtual world building, does one need an actor to sit in the suit for fluid and unique movements. How do you make someone fly? Make sure to protect the sensors when sliding and cliding with solid objects. Rokoko is a good company and kind of special, I think they are here to improve for their users and they are here to stay. Smart, Lucky, Special.
Well, that is relative. Mocap used to be a $100k-$250K entry level even 10 years ago. So the fact that they offer suits under $10k is more accessible. Now, yes, some are starting to go under $5k. Still pricy for some, but for those of us who have been in VFX since the 90s... this is far more accessible than before. Though, even I still sigh at the Xsens prices. They are getting better but still the more failproof solutions where you can jump or walk up stairs without the feet sliding.. are probably still $10k ish.
As someone with experience.... good luck. Its not really high fidelity. But some hints. A 3d camera will give you best ai results. A kinnect will be your best bet.
1:05 "A series about rebuilding our world from scratch" From scratch? What on earth are you smoking? You really think you would be talking about mocap right now, if you were rebuilding from scratch?
To add a little nuance, this show is not an endorsement of starting over from scratch- it’s about looking at new technologies that invite us to think about how we might rebuild the world. It’s a bit of a thought experiment - because thinking about how you’d rebuild something from scratch often forces you to look at assumptions you might have about how things need to be. We love that Rokoko opens up new ways for people to interact with computers and each other, and we’re excited to see how people use their technology. Thank you for watching! (Also, I haven’t smoked anything since college.)
@@NickFromHardReset I appreciate you telling me what you are really trying to say. I find it a wonderful thing to think about new technologies, and re-thinking designs that are already in place, but in my understanding all of that is far from "from scratch". In the context of rebuilding the world even more so. Improving and re-building technology for sure, but all within very established context. Maybe I'm just thinking too literal, but I find our flowery way of speaking often times starts to blurr meaning, which made me burst out in my comment. I apologize for this outburst, and thank you for your kind reply. ♥

No mention of the latency in ms or how many axis the hands have? Is it 21 per hand, and what accuracy in mm?

The lying on the ground is what really blew me away.
There was no “slipping” happening right because sheesh
Everytime a person says "Its complicated" about mocap has no clue and experience with animation.

10 time less expensive again please. The sensors themselves only cost a few dollars each.
Few dollars what😂, the cost to develop that is too high and the compsny is too small so it can't scale well mesning prices will be high
Then build one yourself. Please build one, post a tutorial, and include an itemized price list. 😂
