Had to change the stator and pickup coil in mine..It would play games with me,.it would run sometimes and other times it would not..Make sure you have a full charge on the battery. It's important you have 12 volts going to the system..

Some things I would check : 1st pull the plugs out and see if they spark when turning the engine. If there is no spark it may be the coil. If there is spark check to see if the fuel pump is working. If both are good then I would think it be a timing or crank sensor or that the timing chain has jumped. It also may be that the ECM got fried when the battery was installed backwards. Pull the ECM and smell it to see if it smells like burnt electronics. Good luck and I would love the find out what the fix was once you get it fixed.

So what caused the start button to actually crank the quad over? I can jump my starter solenoid and my quad starts right up. But when I press the start button nothing happens but the red oil light turning on. Thanks!

Thanks to all those who have commented, i had to change the starter solenoid, and then changed the stator and pickup coil which were typically problematic for the 98 - 01 grizzly 600, it's been running strong April 2016 and getting lots of work and play out of it!!!!

Yes, bypassing the starter should start the 4 wheeler. You said that you have spark, so it should run. How did you verify that you have spark? It almost sounds like the engine kill switch isn't working so I am interested in confirming that part. You could try to bypass the relay and spray a little car starter into the carb. See if it starts to fire, if it doesn't attempt to start with the starting fluid then you probably have an electrical issue. It may have jumped time as well.
Do you have a link to the post on GrizzlyCentral?

well it turned out to be the pick up coil and stator...i changed them together figuring it if i'm taking that side of the motor off then i may as well change the stator to a rand new one, got a friend to clean the carb properly , put some new gas in it, turned the choke on and voila she started right away. THANK YOU to everyone who helped out in this matter!!!!!

Blower CDI. I have two and batt got hooked up backward and it popped the CDI. Take CDi off look at back if rubber over the caps in back corner is blown off then it popped a cap or two. You can yank the caps out with pliers, and it will Run depending on which caps got blower. Use black RTV and seal it up after removing cap.

C'est une question comment augmenter la revolution du moteur quand le choque est mis si on relanche le manette a gaz que le moteur arrète.

do yourself a fav and buy a manual.then find a good mechanic.you need to run some voltage test's to find the problem.I was in the same boat and it was driving me nut's.I took it to a good buddy who is a master mecanic. He had it figured out in 15min's no bullshit. It was the pick up coil in my stator.$420 from yamaha,$42 from ebay on my door in 1.5 day's lol Good luck bud. They are famous for stator's going in them.
