      Not even slightly. I run one and there is no way I could make this work with ~116mi total range.
      All but one airport from me would require a recharge en route and thats from a completely full battery. We normally charge the cars to 80% which would mean looking for a charger at around 70-80 miles in this.
      Passengers simply won't tolerate that and I would be missing half the fares while still paying a driver to sit there.
      A range extender would make this work and it would do a LOT of electric miles. As it is this would make a great round town taxi but its not useful for longer runs.

    • @TuomasLeone
      @TuomasLeone 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@TuomasLeone For shorter journeys around town or short runs it would be great. Smooth, quiet, low running costs.

    I’m not a sucker for big cars but I’m really impressed with this EQV. This car can make some families very, very happy. OK it’s derived from a fossil car, but they did an excellent job, aaaand it’s available today. Not the usual “in 2025 we will.... blabla” that some other manufacturers are trying to sell. Good job Mercedes👍👍
    For the consumption one shouldn’t forget that it heats all 3 seating rows, there are even warm air vents in the rear door.

    That thing you were looking at in the back screws in the front bumper so you can be towed, these electric cars have all the components in the bottom and slot of the time, a tower can't hook onto the frame without breaking stuff, many people dont know what it is, don't bother to look it up and throw it away. Comfort comes from seating position and sound isolation. When tested Audi e-tron, what I really didn't like about it, was seating position, felt like in Audi A6, expected to be like in Q7, but no, a bit disappointed. Audi Q7 has also kind of "VAN seating" comfort and this is a game changer on long trips, so will keep my ultra comfy "fossil" at least for couple of years

      @@mattetjus I run a business. My ice minibus does 400+ miles in any conditions then takes 5 mins to refuel.
      I don't mind a wait to charge if its reasonable because I can take breaks around it but if I'm looking for a charger at 100 miles from full thats just not going to work.
      Also if I want to charge to 80% I would be looking for a charger at 70-80 miles.
      The closest airport for me is 65 miles and the usual ones are 100+. I can't see passengers being ok with me sitting charging for an hour halfway through their journey.
      I really want an electric minibus (or even a plug-in with a decent battery size) but the closest things so far are this (nowhere near enough range) or the Ford plug-in which does almost nothing on electric.
      If they made this with a range extender I could get one right now which would mean a lot of electric miles.

      Take a look at most shuttle busses for sale at a few years old and pay attention to the mileage on most of them. 50-80k per year is normal and 100k per year isn't uncommon. They aren't doing that on sub 50-mile routes with a forced 2 hour stop after them.

    Bjorn, good review as always. I get the temperature was cold during your test which would account for some of the range shortage. The flipside is, however, that vans will typically be tasked with carrying a lot of people and stuff which would of course stress its range. ~ 300 km's on a van, especially a premium one, is not good enough IMHO. It should safely be closer to 500 km in deal conditions and maybe down to a 350 - 400 km range in less than ideal conditions. Regardless, good start by Merc.

    I managed to have 32-33 kWh/100 km in my EQV while driving 100 km/h in a -16*C day with no head wind in E+ (extended range) mode. Changing to Eco added 6 kWh/100 in heating, changing to Comfort additional 6 kWh/100 km. It is possible to have 280-300 km range in winter if you preheat and keep vehicle cold inside by using E+ (almost no heating).
