How 37 Years Of Debris Is Deep Cleaned From An Abandoned Sterling Nova | Deep Cleaned | Insider

  • This 1978 Sterling Nova had been abandoned in a barn since 1985. While cleaning it, the guys at WD Detailing found a mouse nest, a mouse carcass, and almost four decades' worth of dust and debris.
One of the car's most unique features is that it has no doors; passengers can only enter by lifting up the top. This posed a unique challenge for the detailers while cleaning. They got to work on the interior with a vacuum, antibacterial spray, an extractor, and a steamer. They tackled the exterior with a vacuum, buffer, foam spray, and a power washer. The vehicle needs to be repaired before hitting the road.

    OMG.
That’s a Nova, English kit car from mid 70’s.
    My brother had one.
    VW powered 4 sp stick.
It was all fiberglass on tubular frame.
The top lifted up on gas struts, held down by 2 clasps 1 on each side.
Running gear was VW, popular at the time slow & noisy but looked great.
Big brother traded it for a TVR 2.5. Those were the days.
    BIG
    Thank You
    🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

This is not a Nova. It is a Sterling. Norm Rose and Cecil Robertson bought the rights to the Nova and made them in California and Illinois. They could not use the name "Nova" for obvious reasons. My Sterling is serial number B57 and was made in Illinois. The English Nova was right-hand drive. The American Sterling is left-hand drive. Which side the steering wheel is on is the easiest way to tell the difference between an English Nova and an American Sterling.

my last house had an external store building that was solid but damp in the winter, and I put a bunch of less important stuff in there to save space. I didn't touch it until I moved, and found fieldmice had colonised it. "all they do is chew and gnaw", I thought, "so it won't be too bad. might have to throw out a few things."
nope. mice in large numbers PISS. they piss SO MUCH. most of the stuff I threw away was because dozens of mice had been pissing on it for months or years. I think they had communal piss troughs. even worse than that as a smell was the recently dead and rotting mice inside a box. imagine how corpsey a smell has to be to get ground into ceramic mugs for half a year before dissipating.
anyway, mice piss a lot. the more you know

I never understand having a beautiful vehicle and just leaving it to rust somewhere. In 2017, I bought a 1994 Dakota off a lawman. Guy had spent about $20,000 rebuilding the entire thing part by part. He said that he took it for its inaugural drive, parked it under a tree and forgot about it. I got it, did a good amount of work and got it to the point where it ran with no issue in a -45 blizzard. Eventually, I had to sell it though because, while it ran in a blizzard, it didn’t have a working heater and every auto shop in my big city refused to put one in for me. What was really sad was I wasn’t the one who sold it, the people who sold me my next car demanded I let them sell it since they were “giving [me] such a great deal.” And, the next time I saw that truck, it was being driven by two old white farmers who were using it like an ashtray and strapped a pair of truck balls to the back. That vehicle deserved more dignity than that.
