  • This wool rug was covered in earthworm larvae and caked-on mud after it was discarded in someone's pool. James of Mountain Rug Cleaning gives it a deep clean using a variety of tools, including a high-powered hose, a rotary machine, a counter rotating brush machine, a squeegee, and a watering can. He was able to transform the rug from brown and muddy to white and fluffy.

    you could get it way cleaner if you used the centrifuge twice instead of once. the problem with all the cleaning processes before the centrifuge is that you're failing to remove a significant amount of dirty water. when you rinse and repeat, the efficiency of the operation is hugely dependent on removing as much of the dirty water as possible before adding clean water. you could have gotten a cleaner rug with less water usage by using the centrifuge more.

      wait, i'm confused, how would that use less water?

    • @Ass_of_Amalek
      @Ass_of_Amalek 2 ปีที่แล้ว +108

      Lynn if during any rinse-and-repeat washing you for example remove 98% of dirty water as opposed to only 90% of dirty water, you are leaving only a fifth of the amount of already dissolved dirt that you would have left by only removing 90% of the dirty water. or for a more extreme example: if you dissolve colour in a glass of water, tip it all out and fill the glass up with pure water, you have a colourless glass of water. if instead you tip out half of the coloured water, fill the glass back up, tip out half again and fill the glass back up again, you have used a whole glass of water for refilling but still have 25% of the colour left, and if you want to keep diluting it that way until it looks colourless, that will take a lot more water.

      As far as environmental impact, it takes water, energy and probably chemicals (I didn't watch the video) to clean that rug. Which will ultimately end up in a landfill, probably sooner rather than later if it goes to a shelter.

    As someone who isn't associated with upholstery or carpets, aside from the level of dirt at the start, you really don't know how much dirt is in your carpet until you get a good vacuum cleaner. I once had to do 10 vacuuming sessions of the carpet in my bedroom since it had gotten so dirty, even if the carpet at the top was fairly clean looking at the top.
