Honestly? Those cars definitely earn a spot at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky! The '82 especially, one of the last C3's that is a time capsule! In my opinion, it needs to be put right next to the only 1983 C4 Corvette.

In 1986 I found a 1963 split window corvette. The license plate had an insurance decal from 1971. I spotted the car down this long gravel driveway. It was in an open carport with the nose barely sticking out. The car had a geen slime growing on the hood. Also just sitting on the hood was mounted deer antlers lol. I went to the house door to inquire about the car, I mean who wouldnt have wanted to buy that car. This little old lady, in probably her 80s came to the door...OMG my heart was beating so fast...I thought this car is mine. Well this sweet little old lady proceeds to tear a strip off me. "Get outa here you young punk" I am not sure if she had a bad experience with someone else or what. I was really polite and explained I was interested in buying it. The car was her husbands (he passed away) and she didnt want to sell it.

This was GM's first attempt at electronically injecting a Corvette. Some of the 60s C2 big blocks had mechanical fuel injection. C&S Corvettes in Florida calls the crossfire injection "Ceasefire Injection" because it was so trouble prone. It only lasted a couple of years on the C4s then replaced by an entirely different fuel management arrangement. From what I've read and heard, 1984 1st year C4 had all kinds of problems, mechanical and electronic.

You asked about Crossfire Injection. It was basically the EFI equivalent to a 69 Camaro Z28 302 (327 bore, 283 stroke) with dual staggered carbs. That 302 was the small block RPM master at about 8500RPM into the blood. The cool thing about the Camaro is the 2 660 Holley carbs, staggered dual carb intake and everything else came in the trunk for either the dealership or owner to install as it came running with a single Holley on a normal intake. Corvette ran Crossfire in 84 for the newer C4 body style where it was retired for Tuned Port Injection in 85. Crossfire wasn't a bad setup, and had low HP, but a fair amount of torque. Like a dual carb setup, it was crucial to keep the same vacuum on both banks.

  • @cuzned

I owned an 82 Corvette. Mine was not the anniversary car however. The speedometer were mandated not to go over 85 MPH by the government at that time. They when still encouraging energy conservation? Note the highlighted 55 MPH. The car would go faster than 85! The 82 anniversary back window would come up like a trunk. The other Corvettes didn’t. The radios had the option of 8 track, cassette or CB radio. Cross fire fuel injection came out that year. It was rated at a mind blowing 200 Hp.
Very cool looking car. Not a fun car on long trips. No space for luggage and not a soft ride.
It’s sad the owners didn’t do a better job of persevering these cars. Car covers, mothballs, starting them at least twice a year and driving them around the block would have done more good than just letting them sit. Personally, if you can’t drive it, why have it.

@WD Wow guys, after watching all three episodes, I am speechless for many reasons. First, that is an awsome find of three Beauty`s, that takes me back to my youth. I am from Bremerhaven, Germany and I am half American. We were called War-Baby`s. So, I had a lot to do with Americans, because the Carl-Schurz-Kaserne (all armed Forces) was in Bhv. and the Lucius-D-Clay-Kaserne was in Garlstedt (2nd Armoured Division), which is in the suburbian area of Bremen. I've been a lot on Post and also played American Football with the Bremerhaven Seahawks. We practised at CSK and it was real easy for me to get on Post. As a child, I got to see a lot of Vettes, because Bremerhaven was the main Port for deliveries from the US to all US Services, all over Europe. Bremerhaven was also one of 4 Port-City`s, where folks from Europe imigrated to the US, back in the days. The others were Cuxhaven, Emden and Hamburg. Bremerhaven is still the biggest Import and Export Terminal for Cars in Europe. I used to work for a Car Dealer, who checked the Cars, before they left to the US and also, if they arrived. Including Service-Member Cars. Many were among them, but a Corvette was always a High-Light for me. Back to the Vettes. I used to do a lot of hitch hiking from Garlstedt to Bremerhaven, if I missed the Bus then. One day, an American Forces member left the Post and he picked me up in his Silver C3, which also had Silver interior, which I never saw before. What a free ride guys. That stayed always in my memories, because I got me a C3 Model-Kit in 1/32 and I painted it the same way that C3 was. I kept it until today and I am thinking of doing a scratch build out of the model, to run it on my Slotcartrack. Two friends of mine had a C1, which I was also a fan of, like the C2 as well. But for me, the C3 was the most sharp looking Corvette ever, until the C8 came out. The C4 and C5, I never liked that much, but the C6 really hit it, followed by the C7, which was the last Vette with a front-engine. Many don`t think the C3 was cool over here, because mainly Pimps bought and drove it over here. Therefore it has a bad reputation. Yeah, what ever. 🙂
To me, it is the most beautiful looking Car ever, in terms of American Cars. Period. Good job guys and of course, I left a Subscription after running into the 1st of those 3 Beauty`s being freshed up by you guys. Good luck on one million Subscribers and greetings over to you 🙂

Having owned a mid 70’s Vette and having the whopping 200hp they look great but are slugs for performance. I sold mine in the mid 80’s and recently replaced it with a C6 with double the HP. Wow, what a difference 👍. I fell in love with Corvettes when a got to drive my aunts 64 convertible with the 327 back in the 70’s when I was 16. I was hooked. Whatever year they are from they are all timeless 👍👍👍👍👍

I remember the 85 MPH speedometers. My family had a 1980 'Vette that we had built up. My brother had it out on 275 and opened it up, he had the needle buried, when he got pulled over. The cop asked him if he knew how fast he was going. He said "I've got know idea, the speedometer only goes up to 85." The cop started laughing and handed his license back and said "I'm letting you off this time but the punishment is I won't tell you what I clocked you at." and walked away.

    1979 Speedometer Law
By the 1st of September, 1979, the government added the law on the 85 mph speedometer. This was a regulation that stated that all cars should have a maximum speed reading of 85 miles per hour, and there should be an emphasis on the 55-mph mark, like a square or a circle around the number.
Some car manufacturers tried to go around the law by placing 85 at the side but putting extra lines after it to show higher speeds. Finally, by 1982, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration eliminated any rules concerning the speedometer or odometer because there was a low chance of this increasing fuel efficiency.

Wow, this really takes me back. I bought a used '81 Vette in 1986 that had only 14,000 miles on it. Dark Blue with a Silver Leather interior. It was a 350. 4-speed with a 4-barrel CARBURETOR. After checking the VIN, I discovered it was one of the very last Vettes made at the St. Louis plant before they moved production to Bowling Green. I loved it, except for the silly 85mph speedometer. I drove it as my daily driver for 4 years until. . .It was hit TWICE in one month by drunk drivers. Once while parked under a carport at an apartment complex and the next time while I was driving it. I hadn't even had the damage from the first drunk fixed yet. Getting my money from the insurance company was more difficult and took longer than it should have, and I ended up selling it in damaged condition to a guy who restored Vettes. Watching you work on this '82, which looks very much like my '81, made me wish I still had my old Vette. It only had about 44,000 miles on it when the drunks took aim at it. With one more year to pay it off, I was gonna park it and have fun detailing it while keeping the mileage pretty low. Oh well, just wasn't meant to be I guess. But I really enjoyed watching you work on this one!

"Cross-Fire" Injection was Chevys intro into fuel Injection after years of carborated engines. After the horsepower wars of the late 60s, the early 70s saw the rollback of high horsepower engines and the trend for somewhat better fuel economy after the Oil Embargo of 72'-73'. The Cross-Fire was supposed to offer power and better economy. It didn't do either very well and was only around for 82' on the Vette and 82'-83' Camaro.

Where do you see an 8 Track deck? This car has the auto reverse digital cassette stereo which was standard in this car. By 1982, 8 Tracks in cars were no longer available in most new cars. Just a handful continued the 8 Track into 1983. In fact, 1983 was the last official year an 8 Track was available on any American Car, that was also the first year a compact disc player (CD) was first offered on a very limited basis for Cadillac and Lincoln. So, 1983 was an interesting year in car stereo options and you could have your pick of an 8 Track, a Cassette or a CD but only for that one year. Great videos and you can definitely tell these are brand new Corvettes stored since new. You can not fake that kind of dirt and debris, especially the sealed up garage doors with weeds growing up them.

Chevy only made 6 cars. as for the Crossfire , it worked but it wasn't very long Chevy changed to injector rails that worked better. a lot of people did not like the crossfire because it was slow compared the first 2 vettes you showed. It's funny watching other detailers change their format to keep up with WD. and by the way the 1982 corvette had a top speed of 85 mph because the speedometer was legally limited to that speed by federal law in the 1980s the law was a result of the 1970's oil shortage and the national speedlimit being reduced to 55 mph to save gasoline.

As a 1980 C3 Corvette owner, seeing this reminds me of how lucky I have to own and still drive my classic. The new ones are pretty, more like Italian supercars, but I wish they didn't name them Corvettes, maybe Corvette F1's lol Anyway, yes having only 3 speeds in mine makes it unbearable to drive on the highway and the gas burns up fast, a 4 speed would have been nice. But these 82's were the first attempt at fuel injection and the crossfire system wasn't too reliable. I see it as more of a "test the new things car" which they implemented in the C4. Sadly there isn't a scenario where you can have a modern proven transmission paired with a reliable fuel injection high HP engine in a C3 body....unless you did a complete custom build. That's my dream 😃
