Growing up in the Bay Area, I was fortunate enough to see Gamma several times, lastly right down the street at the Novato Theater. Always great. RIP Ronnie 🙏
Me too, Santa Clara to be exact...Ronny Montrose wasn't afraid to explore new technology, Genres, musicians, ideas...Loved the humbleness and calm enthusiasm of the man.
Killer Reaction....I Love Gamma and Ronnie Montrose....You mentioned how it reminded You of Foreigner....That's awesome....I Love Foreigner....Actually I saw Gamma open for Foreigner in 1980....Killer Show....Gamma 1 Is A Killer Album !!
We’ll my friend, you finally got to Gamma! I’ve known them for years…..loved “Voyager” especially well! I’ve got pre-Gamma vinyl from Montrose, which features a young Sammy Hagar on vocals. Much more from Gamma/ Montrose to discover. RIP Ronnie 😢
YOU KNOW 'EM! I should not be surprised. I knew they'd be your vibe. Great strong rock music. Was sad to hear how Ronnie passed. Thanks for the late night watch. You will love tomorrow's songs, here and over on P!!
I assumed this was Robin Trower, who I found out was a guitar influence to Ronnie. The guitar phase/delay tones are similar and Trower used a pedal called a UniVibe like Hendrix. Also, the vocals are similar to James Dewar from Trower. Great memories, new knowledge and excellent production for 79'!
James Dewar was friends with Davey Pattison and a fellow Scotsman and he was the one who suggested Davey for Gamma. Davey also was in Robin's band for quite a few years and albums after Dewar passed.
The Montrose-Alcivar duo on the first two GAMMA albums... Wow! "Voyager", pure blues rock, a gem of the genre. However, in terms of extraordinary guitar-keyboard complicity, I suggest you explore the production of a German-British supergroup named LAKE (very unfairly neglected and forgotten; classified as classic rock... however, we detect a prog rock influence; very high level musicians; two keyboard players, Geoffrey Peacey and Detlef Petersen), among other albums, the eponymous one (a true masterpiece of the genre) from 1973. My four favorite compositions from the album 'Lake': 1. "Between The Lines" (studio version: a masterpiece of fusional keyboard-guitar collaboration, breathtaking guitar solo by Alex Conti, vocal harmony) 2. "Key To The Rhyme" (catchy, vocal harmony, earworms) 3. "Time Bomb" (catchy, vocal harmony, earworms) 4. "Do I Love You" (catchy, vocal harmony, earworms) I have no doubt that the keyboard player in you will be delighted with this discovery. Thank you. [NB: The album 'Paradise Island' from 1979 is also excellent.]
Uh oh....another rabbit hole it sounds like! Looks like you've already suggested #2-4, as they are on my list. I added Between The Lines. Thank you, have an awesome day (thinking you're in Europe but not 100% sure...)
@@retroreactions.... It's quite possible, I don't keep a log of my comments (and I don't check the one TH-cam keeps for me). If so, I apologize, Brandon. FYI, I'm in Eastern Canada.
Oh no worries at all...some people request the same song many times...all good to me! Ah OK, I will have to remember that, so probably just 3 or 4 hours later than California...
I have that Lake album! I think I initially got it because I liked the album cover and it was in a discount bin. Good stuff, reviewing it now (because it's been ages since I listened to it) I'm hearing elements of Ambrosia, Supertramp, and Camel? Put me down for votes for the same "Between The Lines", "Key To The Rhyme", "Time Bomb", "Do I Love You", and also "Jesus Came Down"
if you haven't noticed sometimes I get flashes from names of bands or songs and I associate them with other music I have heard here is another example Ronnie Montrose's Gamma "Wish I Was th-cam.com/video/oc-8C3_K344/w-d-xo.htmlsi=63YbRsU93EqBo7hi
Pretty cool, I don't think I've ever heard of Gamma before, or if I did it was just a one off occasional listen on radio or at a friends or at a club/bar etc.? I liked both of these cuts though! The first one sounded a bit like Thin Lizzy to me (speaking of which the title cut from their album Bad Reputation would be a good one for you to react to? ;-) and the second one made me think of Robin Trower (the title cut off of his album Bridge Of Sighs would be a good one for you to react to also?)
A super cool and strong rock band I've never heard of. Insane electric guitar magic in full force! Thanks for watching! 🥰
I saw Gamma at the Old Waldorf in S.F. many years ago. Such a strong band. He will be greatly missed.
Thanks!
Thank you so much Cliff 🙏💙

Bay area resident also...I remember seeing Gamma at the Keystone (San Francisco) awesome show.

Thank you my friend!
You're very welcome! A great and impressive discovery for me 😊
Razor King is cool. Voyager has always been EPIC!
I saw Gamma live. It was great watching Ronnie stand on the bar and completely kick ass. R.I.P.

I had the pleasure if seeing Ronnie in a club in the late70s and I was in awe. I saw Davey sing a few years ago with Robin Trower.
Hey Brandon!
I LOVED IT!
Did you believe me? 😂
Cheers my dear!
I KNOW you loved it, I won't tell 😁

Cool, so you know Gamma. I like their vibes. Thanks for watching and being first on this one! 🥇
Very COOL!! I love his voice. I got shades of Bad Company. With a dash of ZZ Top in that second song.
Awesome. Those are 2 bands I don't know much about. They need to arrive to my channel sometime! Happy Wednesday!!!
Yes! Both those bands NEED to arrive. Like I said, very cool video. 😎 😀Happy Wednesday!
Go check out "Cat on a Leash" Just go.
Added to the list... your favorite song by them?
@@retroreactions.... IT's hard to pick just one Favorite (no surprise there), but "Wish I Was" or "Skin and Bone" are way up there!
Ronny Montrose was the Ry Cooder of Rock Guitar...checlk out "Wish I Was"

Glad you liked this band! Funny you mentioned Robin Trower, as the singer here (Davey) went on to sing with Robin after Gamma broke up!
