I'm starting to wonder if you're ready for PET SOUNDS? When you mention hearing instruments you don't usually hear on rock albums... well, that 100% PET SOUNDS.

DOCTOR ROBERT is a great song to perform live, by the way. It's not usually performed - most bands use TICKET TO RIDE, but lately DOCTOR ROBERT, PAPERBACK WRITER are used to ignite an audience.

Paul's versatile voice is an understatement to say the least. When you compare, "til there was you," and "Yesterday" with Long Tall Sally, Kansas city, Why don't we do it in the road, and Monkberry moon delight, you can just tell it is the same person, but the voice is all over the place in range and timber.

My daughter who is now 9, told me when she was 8 that the Beatles sticks in her memory and head, not so much the other music. She listens to a lot of today's music . I think the abrupt endings do that with short songs, and also the very melodic approach.

Her Majesty is a double entendre, remember that they are British, so a nod to their heritage, but also to a woman Paul was afraid to approach. This album contains a beginning, Come Together, Oh Darling, Maxwell's Silver Hammer, sung in a light-hearted vein about a serial killer!! This album the White Album, Let It Be , Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Magical Mystery tour, these albums are each an experience in themselves. Thanks for not breaking up the medley, and listening through to have a full flowing experience. ❤

Dr. Robert is another fun song, but as I commented on yesterday's video, "For No One" is one of my top five favorite Beatle songs. I love the melody, but the heartbreaking lyrics get me every time I hear them. It's just a fantastic song, IMO.

The song "Dr Robert" is about Robert Freymann, a New York doctor known for dispensing vitamin B-12 shots laced with amphetamines to wealthy clientele. "There's some fellow in New York, and in the States we'd hear people say: "You can get everything off him; any pills you want." It was a big racket, but a joke too about this fellow who cured everyone of everything with all these pills and tranquilizers, injections for this and that; he just kept New York high. That's what Doctor Robert is all about, just a pill doctor who sees you all right". - Paul McCartney, 1967

For No One has such a beguiling melody and arrangement, it’s another of theirs that makes my heart swell. And those horns ❤ As to Dr Robert, it sounds a bit obvious now, this dodgy doc who can make you feel fine. But as the other commenter said, this isn’t a cliched composite dodgy drug doctor, but a real person. Over and above that, it’s yet another Beatle classic. The remaining songs too are among my all-time Beatle favourites. This and the album before it, Rubber Soul, are just wonderful. Mind you, all their others are also wonderful ❤

Allen Civil and Paul almost to blows on how to play the horn on this one. Civil told John to get him away from me because I'm about to beat him up. John & George had to cool him down. They told him don't let him bother you, that's just Paul. Civil said he didn't understand how they can work with someone like that. By listening to this track I think Civil knew what he was doing, it's great. I don't get what Paul was unhappy with. The story about the near fight came directly from 20 year old recording engineer Geoff Emery who producer George Martin hired in April, 1966 to be the head engineer on Beatles records. This kid was like a genuis in the studio. His first Beatles Lp was "Revolver". That near fight was witnessed by Emerck, he had a lot of great stories and I believe wrote a book a few years before his death several years ago. This song is great on every level and Dr. Robert is also a cool track.

Bullshit. Near fight? Blows? No. To anyone stumbling across that post, please disregard it and read any reliable Beatles history (including Geoff Emerick - correct spelling) for the true and very different story.

This is loosely based on their dentist, who slipped LSD into John and George's drink without their knowledge. So they were both soon taking this during the period when this album was made. Paul was the last one who eventually took the drug leading to his idea for Sgt, Pepper. But they all were quoted as stating they never did drugs while in the studio.

In a 1980 interview that Fontenot says "muddied the issue further", Lennon said the song was "mainly about drugs and pills" but: "It was about myself. I was the one that carried all the pills on tour."

Possibly THE best bass line of any Beatles song (I know, I know...If I Needed Someone, Hey Bulldog & Rain are strong contenders). During this period, it seemed Paul always gave inspired efforts with both the bass & his vocal harmonies on John's & George's songs, making them really special. The one really great John Lennon song he didn't contribute to at all (She Said She Said) showed that the other 3 guys were no slouches. This was also the beginning of Ringo's peak period...

Another little 2 min. highly underrated and appreciated Lennon Beatles track. So damn catchy and it rocks. It's not clear but I've seen where Paul and George both played lead guitar and John on rhythm guitar and I've seen just George on lead. I think it was both. Whatever it is all I know is that lead guitar on verse 2 and after the solo rocks and the solo, my Lordy! This song has some of my Beatles guitar work ever and one of my many favorite Beatles tracks. The next one up by Paul is another little highly underrated Beatles tracks, it's a great song. They had so many little gems that almost go unnoticed That's what makes them the greatest band ever. Dude, you're 9 tracks in. Have you heard a bad song yet? I've listened to them since 1964, have all of their music and have bought a ton of records from other artist's over the decades and they're the only band that I could listen to all their Lp's and not have to skip songs. The only one that I can listen to is Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" all the way through, that's it. My last Zeppelin Lp "Houses Of The Holy" I bought in 73 and after that Robert Plants voice began to grate on my nerves. I couldn't do after that. I was 16 at the time. There music never really progressed that much for me. They were always 3 great musicians but all their music sounds alike. Same as The Stones, great band, only one singer. The Who, one singer, The Doors, one singer, Queen, one singer. These are all great bands and I've seen them all live including The Beatles back in 64 in Pittsburgh. Couldn't hear much with over 12,000 girls screaming but it was cool just to see them. As for live bands Queen by far was the best live act I ever saw. I saw them in Pittsburgh in 74 and Freddie Mercury was the greatest front man I ever saw, just phenomenal! Mick Jagger was great but second to Mercury. The Best shows I ever saw and in no particular order were The Beatles, just because it was The Beatles, Queen, Pink Floyd in 74 in Pittsburgh and a duo, Simon And Garfunkel in 1990 at 3 Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh on their reunion tour and had a great backing band. Probably the best concert I ever attended and a blast. Like 50,000 hippies and the most pot smoke I ever encountered, joints everywhere, security didn't even care. What are you gonna do, arrest like 40,000 people? It was great! So the 3 I can listen to all of their Lp's all the way through and not get bored are The Beatles, Bob Dylan from the sixties and seventies and I must include Simon & Garfunkel who made some really great records together. All the other great acts for me a Greatest Hits CD works fine and I have a lot of them. Now vinyl I have a lot of the original Lp's but that's because I've collected records for decades. Started collecting The Beatles in 71 my freshman year in HS. That was a year after they split up, no one thought of collecting their records back then. I have an incredible original Beatles records collection, Lp's, 45's and EP's. Very little I don't have and all in NM condition including several Butcher Cover's Stereo and Mono both 1st and 2nd states. You probably have no clue what I'm talking about. Look up what Beatles Butcher Covers are. They're Holy Grail items in the record collecting world. One last thing here, you're doing Lp's, you haven't touched on their singles or EP's. Only band ever where all their singles the B-Sides were all very good to great. I bought tons of singles over the years from other artist's and can't recall one where I played a B-side and said that's really good. You bought the record for the A-side, the B-side were throwaways except for The Beatles, they never had a bad B-side. They even released 3 double A-side because both songs were so good. Radio station's played both sides as A-sides. Out of six songs 4 hit #1 "Strawberry Fields Forever" I believe hit #4 in the States and "Day Tripper" I believe hit #7 in the States. In the UK it hit #1. That's how great this band was. You have to check out their singles and EP's at some point. This band was great and that's why it's 55 years after they split up now they're still regarded as the greatest and most influential band and history. I've babbled enough now. Peace ❤

"prized possessions weighing you down" is NOT about Frank Sinatra. This is more about John's fun with a guitar, and sort of like I FEEL FINE with John, his guitar's pickup and amp.
