    You are a really smart guy and as an automotive engineer, I enjoy watching your builds and troubleshooting as it is highly educational for all interested in auto tech.
    Two thoughts and one that wasn't clear. I would have done a lot of things you did only out of your sequence.
    Your MAF's. If you have two MAFs...you touched on this...but I would switch MAF position however keep them connected...not disconnect one or the other or both and see if your code reader reflects bad lambda on opposite bank.
    Your engine PCM would be a second thought but to me, more remote.
    A positive note. Thank your lucky stars it isnt compression related or your bottom end. Be encouraged by that very important fact.
    This is fueling related. I wouldn't have bought new injectors because you switched them and same issue on pass side bank. I though you may get joy with your intake gaskets. Switching coil packs won't matter.
    To me, your pass side bank is getting the wrong AF and its all the things in that stream that may contribute are candidates. Any sensor specific to pass side bank needs to be scrutinized because driver side bank is fine.
    Lastly, consider this a great learning opportunity. Watching your videos, there isn't anything you can't do. Pull the engine PCM and reseat the harness connector to the PCM. Check your grounds. Moisture and short jaunts to work is likely your root cause over time. You may have a connector or harness glitch aka moisture ingression...or rusty ground.
    All the best.

      Can you plug a "noid light" into one of the bad cylinders to see if injector pulse looks different than a good cylinder at 1500 rpm when it craps out? @@ChrisSullivan69

    • @lukewalker1051
      @lukewalker1051 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ritt6676 Presumably that would be a slam dunk that the injector signal goes bad for misfiring cylinders...but yes, a good way to differentiate whether its bad fueling or...ignition is cutting out at 1500 RPM. Spark & Fuel is all it could be because he has solid compression. Good suggestion. Seems like it has to be fueling...but maybe ignition is cutting out oddly at 1500 RPM on pass sd bank. Maybe check coil pack voltages on pass side.

    Hi Chris. Mb tech here.
    I had something similar a while ago, same car e63 with m156 “my own car”
    I had bad fuel pressure, first thing I found was braided hose from supply to rail hole size had reduced by half at the rail end, That helped get better pressure but didn’t fix it, next I changed fuel filter “complete sender unit” again increased pressure more but did not fix, then I changed the fuel pump control unit! And like magic that was the end of my problems!

    My first thought was crank sensor. They heat soak, cause misfires, can even cause it to not run. Once it cools off it will fire and run fine. Can be hit or miss too. The random cylinder to cylinder misfire is usually the biggest indicator of this.

    • @A.Musa76
      @A.Musa76 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The issue for a bad crank sensor is when it get's to hot it shuts the motor down (sputtering till it die) if you let it cool down you can fire up the motor back up and drive it in limp mode. The first time I experence this I had no CEL. The second time I experience it I got a CEL before the symptoms happen and by that time I was already at the shop. The crank sensor goes bad I would say 85k-120k miles. I would only stick with OEM replacement because I had an aftermarket one in there and only lasted 6 months not even.

    m278/GL550 owner here... check your harness and sensors for oil. its a common problem in early MB sensors for them to have a leak which caused oil to wick up into the harness and cause all kinds of weird problems. theres an updated set of cam position sensors and a cam cover plate reseal that fixes it for the m278's... perhaps similar for yours.

    Great vid. I have w204 c63 and had a similar issue. It turns out the problem was with a small but almost unnoticed vacuum leak from the catch can. You notice it limp only when you get off throttle. Do another vacuum test and smoke it out this time. Check the return on the back of the intake manifold. Mine wasn't connected properly, also on the catch can, had a small the vacuum leak at the can. Check it again man. As for the pcv, I customized mine to make a permanent fix for it. The one from Mercedes is a poor design. I used a better oil hose.
    Good luck

    Hello, I had the same issue as you. Once I start the car, it's fine, and revving in neutral causes no problems, but under load, the misfire starts between 1500-2500 RPM on the driver’s side bank. When the car warms up, the misfire gets worse. Here's what I did: I checked several forums on Google and saw your post on MB TECH. I replaced the MAF sensor, fuel pressure sensor, and both the exhaust and intake cam solenoids. I also checked the ECU because the fuel injectors were continuously pushing fuel. When I opened the ECU, I found one circuit was dead, so I replaced it. I also cleaned the fuel system since it hadn't been cleaned, and the car hadn't driven for 7 months after the engine blew (I replaced it with a brand-new engine). After all that, the car ran great.

      It prevents oil vapors from building up in the engine, which can pressurize the system and cause problems. It basically catches and condenses oil vapor, which is why it collects oil and needs to be emptied periodically.

    Couple of suggestions:
    1. PCV Catch Can hoses. Did you flush these out? Could one be blocked, or split?

If it isn’t the fuel pump/filter/pressure sensor then it’s probably bad throttle position sensor. Good luck with the fix! How is the quality of the Crank Angle Sensor signal and the Cam Position Sensor signals? Its been a bit since I was an ASE Tech, but if i recall correctly, Crank signal will dictate coil firing, and Cam position will dictate injector firing. Admittedly, I am not familiar with the 6.3, but would be something I would take a look at. Oil near your wiring sounded scary. Could an oil pressure sensor have failed and be leaking oil into your wiring harness? VW Tiguans had a recall for something similar with coolant, it would work its way all the way to the ECU. Good luck, keep us posted!

    @wallycoach2843 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You need to do a flywheel adaptation. That block of 1500 rpm to 2500 rpm where this misfire occurs proves that this is the problem. If you replace the motor mounts or a cranksaft position sensor then this adaptation is crucial. However, if there is a problem in the driveline with some weird vibration like a crack in the flex plate then this will cause this adaptation to go haywire. Get a scanner that can reset this adaptation.

    You should swap the VVT Acuators or Solenoids. They are right in front of each side of engine. That controls the timing for each side of the engine. You swapped everything else. I’m pretty certain that should be your problem.

    Giving me flashbacks of an old car. I’m sure you know this but o2’s take a minute to warm up and on start up your car is in open loop. Once the o2’s heat up it enters closed loop, wondering if you try just unplugging the front O2’s altogether if the car will revert to the map sensor/speed density rather than maf and O2’s then you’ll know if you have an o2 short or problem

  • @justfasial01
    @justfasial01 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Man I was hoping you'd look at the fuel pressure at wide open throttle, see if it dips. Also the long term fuel trims on both banks would be interesting to see. Watch short term at full throttle/when the misfires happen.
    To test the MAF, I'm sure you tried swapping them and checking to see if the codes moved to the other bank but another thing you can try is look at the live data from both MAFs while you rev the engine, they should be close in grams/second. You can also see if someone has known good MAF values for that engine at idle and at 100% load and compare them with your reading at idle and full throttle/100% load.
    O2 sensors rarely go bad, the pre cat sensors get hot very fast, some even have an internal heater so I doubt condensation can make it go bad in a year.
    Good luck 😅

  • @AdiBarash-pk4ps
    @AdiBarash-pk4ps 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Ill put a pressure gage on the fuel line check if the pressure don't go down the normal values on 1500-3000 rpm it probably the problem. could be the line pump or filter dirty. hopefully you will not need to change the fuel pump. but higher % of water in your fuel can do that especially if it parked outside in the cold weather. same you find in your catch can.... but to be honest to me it look like faulty Air flow mass sensor but it probably the fuel the causing miss fire.

    This wont fix your major problem but will fix your minor problem, if it was me I would defiantly remove the catch can and return it to stock. The issue I have had using catch can in cold conditions is the engine internal air cools down too much and creates water in the catch can which cools any oil vapour and then that is caught in the catch can. I moved back to stock set up and no water in the drained sump oil or creamy oil was in the engine sump from then on with years of drained engine oil checking.
