This car has THE best turbocharged engine in the world. The torque increases with each higher gear, which gives you the sensation of a NA engine. And it's rev limit is only 1000 rpm below the Speciale. Other turbo or supercharged cars have max torque at 1500 rpm or there about, which almost totally removes the need to change gears and you could stay in 3rd all day. I wish others like Mclaren, Porsche and Corvette would take notice how to build a turbocharged engine.
The interior sound (from first hand experience) is almost no different to the 458. It's only from the outside that the 488 sounds muted, doesn't scream like the 458 as the revs build
A big pet peeve of mine is an engine being revved to redline at stand still, it really really f*cks me off! With that off my chest it'd be difficult to argue the the 488 GTB is at the head of its segment but then again so it is on price, by a considerable margin but what ever.. When dreams become reality for zero dollars but you could only have one choice of sports/super car I'd lean toward the 991GT3, a Lamborghini Huracan or an Audi R8 Plus (or indeed a 458/Speciale) for public roads as they're all fine driving machines out in the real world but more importantly for a car like these is a hair raising sound track. If it were more for track days alone then I'd definitely consider the 488 more... But probably a GT3RS.
O....M.....G We must be the only ones in the world that think static revving engins is the biggest wank. Has no value and doesn't even come close to hoe good it will sound under load.
+benny I completely agree with both of you, it's like finger nails on a chalkboard to me.....not to mention very few engines even sound good when the are not under load. I was in a parking lot the other day and this young guy was revving the piss out of his new M4 (which I personally think sounds awful in every scenerio) to impress his friend, and now I'm having nightmares of that thrashy, mechanically unrefined sound out of my head
In the isolation of competition racing I can see the point of full range revving for diagnostics but outside of that I despise it, shows a lack of mechanical sympathy.
I'm a huge MotoX fan and i ride alot too and its the same. their bashing on the rev limiter as they ride past the crowd. Also here in Aust we have burnout comps. I love em but you get some knobs just boucing off the limiter the whole time. Drives me bonkers
Your fears of not liking the car seem to be lies..You start by saying "I was afraid I wouldn't like the car with its turbo lag etc etc" Complete lies for your your dramatic reveal. Its not like you reviewed it first (everyone raves about it and obviously you would know ) and no one does turbo lag these days especially not ferrari..
Abhishek Sunkara I guess they had to think about what else to put in there besides just specs. Truth be told, none of the Australian reviewers are actually qualified to be reviewing cars. You're better off watching Schmee lol. And yes in this day and age there isn't much turbo lag in supercars anymore.
Looks like it was filmed on Mount-Cootha. If it was you'll be peeling spandex claded cyclist outta ya grill for months. Well you'll have time because you just lost your licence with all the speed cameras around there.
1:24 the owner has a nice sense of humor :P
Best review yet CarAdvice.
Cheers Oscar - thanks for watching!

Great review guys. If this is where turbo tech is at, and hybrids are now hypercars, the future looks good.
Great review. Looking forward to hear how the new V6 Dino will sound like.
Great review!!!!

That Ferrari 488 gtb looks really good 😍
I’m aiming to get a purple one when I’m 16 or in the future 😍
Was this filmed on Mt Cootah in Brisbane?
Love the 488's!
Seriously how do i get a job like this guy....he is just reading the stats from a book with as much personality as a tap dripping.
The actual sound is great but its soooo muted compared to the 458.....

Great review, much better than the bad acting/attempts at comedy of some of the other journos. Good.
Cheers Gibbet! We've always told Alborz he's a terrible actor and isn't funny so it is great to hear he does something right :)
Thanks for watching!
was going to buy one but decided not too because you said it doesn't sound as good
+ReSpawn 😅
CarAdvice.com I think I will buy the 812 superfast, thanks for the review!
