Full Fewest Moves (FMC) Playlist: • 3x3 Fewest Moves (FMC)
    Cube ► QiYi Valk 3: bit.ly/2lCjC0S
    SpeedCubeShop ► bit.ly/2nW3qWg
Using the code "JPERM" supports my channel and also gives you a discount on your order.
    ► TYPES OF SKELETONS:
    ► 2 CORNERS:
    2 twisted corners: 2 commutators
    - 1st comm involves the 2 twisted corners + any other piece in any way*
    - now you have a 3-cycle (1 comm)
    ► 3 CORNERS:
    3-cycle: 1 commutator
    Example: bit.ly/2Xa8M3X
    3 twisted corners: 2 commutators
    - 1st comm involves all 3 twisted pieces in any way*
    - now you have a 3-cycle (1 comm)
    ► 4 CORNERS:
    2 x 2-cycle: 2 commutators
    - 1st comm solves any 1 piece, and involves 2 other pieces in any way*
    - now you have a 3-cycle (1 comm)
    3-cycle + 1 twisted corner: 2 commutators
    - 1st comm solves any 1 piece, and must involve the twisted corner*
    - now you have a 3-cycle (1 comm)
    Example: bit.ly/2KTmsd4
    4 twisted corners: 3 commutators
    - 1st comm involves any 3 pieces in any way*
    - now you have a 3-cycle + 1 twisted corner (2 comms)
    ► 5 CORNERS:
    5-cycle: 2 commutators
    - 1st comm solves a sequence of numbers (123/234/345/451/512)
    - now you have a 3-cycle (1 comm)
    Example: bit.ly/2Kh4K3T
    X (not 5) twisted corners: 3 commutators
    - 1st comm involves 1 twisted corner + any of the other unsolved pieces in any way*
    - now you have a 5-cycle (2 comms) or 4C (2 comms)
    Example: bit.ly/2WLqvzx
► * "Involve X in any way" means you can choose any sticker on X to be used in the commutator. Focus on cancelling moves, to avoid checking all commutator possibilities.
    ► X EDGES:
    Same rules as corners.
Try the special algs listed below to save a lot of moves.
    3E Example: bit.ly/2ZprkLk
    ► 2 EDGES & 2 CORNERS:
Insert J perm or T perm or a cyclic shift of these (details below).
    ► 3 EDGES & 3 CORNERS:
Insert an alg that solves 3 edges, then rewrite the skeleton and solve the 3 corners (or corners followed by edges).
    Example: bit.ly/2KRN3rg
► SPECIAL ALGS (mirrors/inverses/cyclic shifts* are not listed):
Note: Write these as outer turn moves for FMC (you can also use wide moves, written as "Rw" and NOT "r").
Note: You may not get these exact cases while doing insertions, but you can setup to them (like U + 3-cycle + U').
    M' U2 M U2 // Edge 3-cycle: 6 moves
    M2 U2 M2 U2 // Edge 2 * 2-cycle: 6 moves
    (R2 Fw2 R2 Uw)2 // Edge 3-cycle: 8 moves
    (Rw2 Fw2 Rw2 Uw)2 // Edge 3-cycle: 8 moves
    (R2 Fw2 R2 U)2 // Edge 3-cycle: 8 moves
    (Rw2 Fw2 Rw2 U)2 // Edge 3-cycle: 8 moves
    M' U' M U // Edge 5-cycle: 6 moves
    L2 D' L' D L' F2 R U' R' F2 // 2E2C J perm: 10 moves
    R2 Uw R2 Uw' R2 F2 Uw' F2 Uw F2 U' // 2E2C T perm: 11 moves
*Note: you can also try cyclic shifts of these algs.
    A cyclic shift of A B is B A.
For example, doing the J perm as D' L' D L' F2 R U' R' F2 L2 (moving L2 to the end) will swap different pieces. You can also move L2 D' to the end only, or move F2 to the beginning only, etc.
► A FEW ADVANCED ALGS (mirrors/inverses/shifts not listed):
These are not meant to directly solve your case. Instead, they transform your case into a new and better case if used correctly. Only consider using these if your insertion speed + fundamentals are solid.
    R' F R F' // 3E4C: 4 moves
    R U R' U' // 3E4C: 4 moves
    - For example, if you have 3E5C, you can insert this alg to solve 3E and transform your 5C into a different case. If 2 corners get solved by this alg, it becomes only 3C!
    U // 4E4C (both 4-cycles): 1 move
    U2 // 4E4C (both 2 * 2-cycles): 1 move
If I've missed a good alg, let me know in the comments!

Today, for the first time, I had to google "youtube maximum description length" (which is 5000 characters, and I had 7700 at first).
FMC 2019 (1 competition held all around the world) is this weekend and I hoped to get this last FMC video out sooner but I had to redo it a few times. Good luck to all of you who are participating!

I have been working on incorporating ZZ ideas into my skeletons and so far, EOL dramatically lessens the pain of trying to solve the last edges and you can usually find a good case. EOL can be performed right away or after a 2x2 block, and you can orient the left and right layer solved stuff any way you want since it's a skeleton anyway. For example, I got a 17 move skeleton with 6 corners yesterday and set a new PB (34 moves. I'm not terribly good at cancelling moves lol). Today, I am working on a 19 move skeleton with 5 corners so I am hopefully going to break that PB since 2 extra moves while going from 3 cycles to two is obviously better. In short, orienting the edges early while you still have a lot of freedom in your unsolved layers is worth it because solving the last edges is much easier, and I have also had more luck with corner and edge pairs popping up when switching between scrambles.

    • @JPerm
      @JPerm  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Thanks! Some people have tried FMC for other events but it's not an official WCA event so there's not much incentive to get good at it. I think for 4x4 what people do is a low move count reduction + regular FMC on 3x3, not sure though since it's so rare to see anyone talk about it. For 2x2 I think if you know optimal CLL/EG/TCLL etc. then you just apply those algs.

    • @puerlatinophilus3037
      @puerlatinophilus3037 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think that comes from experience. In my last comp (2nd time doing FMC) I gave myself 30 mins to do a simple 3-corner insertion because I was really slow at it and messed up very frequently. • @JPerm

My usual advice for people starting out is to make videos that you think people will want to watch, even if they aren't invested in you as a person. For example, don't just copy what PewDiePie does, because he's allowed to make certain content on the basis that people are interested in him as a person. When he started, he had to have a unique and compelling idea, which was his horror game playthroughs with crazy reactions. So try to find what you can provide that doesn't already exist. Or do what I tried to do when I started, which is find what already exists but try to make it even better.

I have done 5 fmc solves, the first 3 using only cfop, i got 2 54 and a 51, then using blockbuilding and oll and pll got a 41, then i just did this scramble with skeletons and insertions. could anyone critique the solve? It was 39 moves.
    Scramble: L D L F U' L B' U D2 R' B L2 D2 F2 U2 D2 F' L2 B' U2
    Inverse scramble: U2 B L2 F D2 U2 F2 D2 L2 B' R D2 U' B L' U F' L' D' L'
I did F D' R' F D' on the inverse to get my first block
    Then on the normal scramble i did L' R U R L, and U2 F' U' F U2 for f2-1
on the inverse i did U' F U to insert the last f2l edge.
    this left me with 4 corners and 3 edges. My skeleton was: L' R U R L U 2 F' U' F U F' ^ U D F' R D F'
    ^ this was my first commutator: F' D' B2 D F D' B2 D
    new skeleton: L' R U R L U 2 F' U' F ^ U F2 D' B2 D F D' B2 D U D F' R D F'
    ^second commutator: F D F' D' U2 D F D' F' U 2
    new skeleton: L' R U R L U2 F' U' F2 D F' D' U2 D F D' F' U' F2 D' B2 D F D' B2 D U D ^ F' R D F' R D F'
    ^ edge commutator: F2 B2 U' F U F' F2 B2 F D' F' D
    Final solution( i was able to cancel some moves because of D U D, can cancel to D2 U , and in the edge commutator there were alot of F moves that canceled to a F2) :L' R U R L U2 F' U' F2 D F' U2 F D' F' U' F2 D' B2 D F D' B2 D2 U F2 B2 U' F U F2 B2 D' F' D F' R D F'
    39 moves final solution

    • @JPerm
      @JPerm  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looks good, but edge commutators should always be 10 moves (2 slices and 2*3 outer turns). In this case you can do F2 B2 U' F U F2 B2 D' F' D.
You properly canceled it all away so it makes no difference, but just make sure you're only searching for 10 move edge comms (3 moves to solve the odd piece)

    • @JPerm
      @JPerm  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Also anytime you get a large amount of corners + edges, you can try doing rNISS as I described in my newest video. There are examples in the description of that video!

    • @pinkCuber
      @pinkCuber 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you for replying. Ill keep the 10 move limit for edge comms in mind. Also your rNiss vid came out just as a was typing my comment, after i had done the solve, but ill try to use rNiss in my next attempt.
