KlackEnder Probe - Klicky for the Ender 3

  • Hey everyone!
    Today I want to show you my new bed leveling probe: The KlackEnder Probe!
    An adaptation of the Klicky/Quickdraw Probe for the Ender 3 and comparable Creality printers. The probe is compatible with all printers that use the X plate of the Ender 3. The cost of the probe is less than 5€, of which the switch is the most expensive part. The probe is compatible with Marlin and Klipper. Both firmwares work with the G29 command, the docking is done automatically by the printer, it couldn't be easier! Both firmwares add a KlackEnder menu to the display that can be used to dock and undock the Probe. The Bed-Mesh can be created via the custom menu, via the default formware settings or with G29.

    A BL Touch was too expensive for me so I stumbled upon this design. All I can say that I fell in love with it. Magnets are on the way to arrive, and I already have the other parts. I bet you can build this for under 2-3 $ and it can be as, if not, more accurate than e BL Touch, and if something goes wrong and it brakes, you can easily replace it. Thanks a lot for the effort you put into designing this thing.

  • @t1mmy13
    @t1mmy13 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    I'd even be willing to bet this outperforms any BLtouch like solution in repeatability/accuracy. This also eliminates issues with erroneous probe deployments and these switches are very abundant and cheap. I will probably be making this. Super elegant design, bravo!

    My proximity sensor sucks. Never achieved a perfect first layer since I first learned about 3D printing. I tested my both cheap capacitive sensor and servo probe on my DIY printer, and it turns out servo is much better. Now, I find this video and wanna move to klicky probe. Really huge thank you for this tutorial!

    I love your design! Seems nobody has thought to use the back of the mounting plate before you 👍 I wonder if your idea could be modified slightly to also act as the z end stop. The screws are used only as a docking mechanism to allow the print head to move away and leave the probe correct? If the probe switch was resting on a ledge, instead of bottoming out the screws entirely, would it then be able to trigger the switch when it docked? Seems like that could make for even easier wiring as you wouldn’t need additional pins

    Did the upgrade a couple days ago on my Ender 3 MAX with NG Extruder running on Klipper. Needed the BL touch for another printer, that had a low quality BL clone that is going bad.
    Took a bit to work around the BL touch already set up on the printer. Have screw_tild_adjust, and bed leveling working.
    The only issue so far is the 'z_axi_calibrate' . I have not found a combination of loading PROBE_OUT & PROBE_IN manually, or automatically to get it working. Always gets to point when you adjust the nozzle height, and gives an error, thinking it is in manual mode.

      @rcflyer2k ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KevinAkaSam Finally found the issue, entering wrong format in TEST_Z command. You do have to manually remove probe before TEST_Z commands. Working great now, thanks for replying..
      I am using manual PROBE_OUT and PROBE_IN for tilt_screw_adjust, so it doesn't go through the out/in process brfore each test. Also modified the OUT and IN to go to center of board, so it always starts where homing leaves off. Amazing upgrade, thanks. Adding belted Z to the ender 3 MAX with the Klack, printing out the parts now. It has been on another E3 for about 9 months, works perfectly.

      No this wouldn’t replace the z endstop. It’s an additional endstop

  • @AnthonyGossner
    @AnthonyGossner 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could you use z_virtual_endstop and use the klicky as your z homing? This would negate having to purchase another microswitch and also make z homing between different build surfaces easier. I think you'd also have to create a g28 macro that included probe_out and probe_in or just add probe_out/probe_in to start gcode in a slicer.

    • @KevinAkaSam
      @KevinAkaSam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No that’s not possible because the printer doesn’t know the z position before homing. Because of this it can deploy/dock the probe because it simply doesn’t know where it is (if it had to drive 50mm or 200mm downwards)

    • @AnthonyGossner
      @AnthonyGossner 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KevinAkaSam ah yes that makes sense. I suppose if one wanted to use it for z homing it would be a matter of manually attaching the probe prior to homing. I really dislike adjusting the z end stop but I suppose there are printable mounts to aid with that.

    Im trying to install this on Ender 3 V2. Ive printed the parts in PLA, and the main mount on the bracket was a bit difficult to fit but it eventually worked. The top hole doesnt line up with anything, but the bottom hole does line up with a spare threaded hole on original plate so i can just fit a bolt on, not that its necessary since its a really tight fit. Ive checked clearances on the other parts and they dont seem to have any major issues. Looks like this will work fine mechanically. Still waiting for the magnets to arrive, but i did find a good switch to use. However, im stuck at a few things in firmware, im using Mriscocs source code as the base, and cant confirm if the (OUT) probe pin assignment will be (PB1), can someone confirm? I have a Creality 4.2.2 board. Also will the bracket not melt being so close to the nozzle? My v2 does have a silicone sock, but not sure how much heat will be blown by the fan towards the printed bracket. Should i print with some higher temp material? And what would be best suited?
