When this happens in HOTD I’m going to laugh so hard. Otto really thought he was going to be able to control Aegon, but like Tyrion said years later, it’s hard to keep a mad dog under control after you put a crown on its head.
Both sides have people defying orders of their main monarch claimant. Aegon is nowhere near Joffrey, because Aegon would never behead a hostage for no reason.
@@octoberboiy To be fair, Aegon II was the rightful Heir, so of course Otto pushed for him Yes, Aegon II wasn't the best King, but Rhaenyra (and her bastards in line) was only Heir to get the likes of Daemon off the Throne (for good reason). Had he been raised in part by Viserys, maybe he would've grown to be better
It's the fact that Otto basically caused this war that makes his downfall deserved. First by pushing Viserys to name Rhaenyra his heir (which imo was a good thing), then by contradicting that the moment Aegon was born. This could have all been avoided if he had kept his pride in check.
If you buy the theory the Hightower having there own agenda and are planning some stuff with the citadel abs faith in the main books, simply causing chaos might just have been ottos motive. Or he really was just that bad of a hand

@@godemperorofmankind3.091 I understand what your saying. The Greens, in my opinion, definitely did not succeed because their goal itself was not to make sure that everyone goes by male precedent, that was just their main weapon of legitimization of their claimant Aegon to take the throne. The real ambitions of Otto and Alicent were for the Hightowers to become more powerful through the Targaryen-Hightower line to rule the Iron throne forever. The Dance of Dragons was all about the battle of the bloodline. And they completely lost that goal because thanks to their plotting their line was decimated within a pathetic 4 year timespan and Rhaenyra’s bloodline triumphed but at a great cost because the dragons went extinct but the blacks at least prevailed over the Greens and their personal pursuit of the dominating bloodline. And they did for a long while consider Baela and Rhaena as contenders for the iron throne during the Regency of Aegon iii. The council decided the Rhaena was going to be the heir because she was not married to a bastard like Baela was and she was the last Targaryen that had a dragon. And over 100 years later Princesa Vaella was considered a contender for the Iron Throne in a Great council of 236 AC. @@ocsjc13 They both served 3 kings as hand and both had alot of years basically running it well.. Tywin is the better battlefield commander but Otto might see things a little more clearly if we're talking about the shows. Someone like Otto would have known about a jamie/Cersei situation and would be very against it because he's from Oldtown....
Daemon had Otto figured out from the beginning! Daemon was just upset his brother kept looking over him everytime he thought he proved his loyalty! Daemon is a straight up G! He too gangsta for y'all cry babies. You have to be a gangsta in westeros! Or you'll get ran over!
The Targaryens decayed after the dance, house Hightower continued to prosper, arguably one of the most powerful individual house only second to the crown.
In the book and on the show, it’s a clear picture that the greens don’t have a stable and a united leader ship, as well as the blacks Otto‘s biggest mistake is that he spent the majority of his time, trying to destroy and shame Rhaenyra’s reputation, he ignored the other lords in the kingdoms. He’s trying to use political power to end the war but fails.
4 seasons and how season 1 is reminding HBO of GoT…. hell yes they will use every piece written season 7-8 showed what a show is like when it strays from source material better yet - pretty much everything that strays from source material does not do well - star wars - ghostbusters - recent thor movies - avatar last airbender
Why do so many people hate Otto? I know he is not perfect and an all righteous Westerosi Noble but i still think the hate he gets is abit too much. Yeah he pimped his daughter to marry the king but thats what majority of the Lords did. Lord Tywin and even Lady Tyrell played the game that way. I concede the fact that his dislike towards our G.O.A.T Daemon made him make alot of decision that set the Dance in motion. However, Daemon is a piece of work himself (Complex but not cruel )and Otto had every right to perceive that Daemon is the second coming of Maegor. He was just doing what's best for his House.
I wonder how the show will handle Otto’s death? If he’s currently in Oldtown he won’t be in King’s Landing when Rhaenyra retakes the throne. I’d love to see him eaten by Syrax.
I can not help but respect this man for some reason, even tho his pride was his undoing his ambition was a flame so bright I can't help but respect it.
The only good thing Lord Otto did was remove Daemon from the succession. He would have been a new Maegor. What if he was wrong was to become infatuated with crowning Aegon without respecting the will of the king.
Daemon would not have been Maegor. At all. I'd put money on Aemond becoming Maegor over Daemon. Otto hated Daemon because he saw right through him. He saw what Otto was trying to do and as long as Daemon stuck around he couldn't do it. Everything Daemon said about Otto is correct, he's a leech.
You really like to throw that Maegor line. If Daemon was the second Maegor, he would've killed Viserys after he dis-inherited him, then Rhaenyra, Rhaenys, and her children way before the dance 😂 But do you know who's the real Maegor? Aegon II. He usurped the throne like Maegor. He killed his family members to sit the throne like Maegor. He wore the conqueror's crown like Maegor (which is so fitting seeing how both Maegor and Aegon II are usurpers, which is why Jaehaerys made it a statement to not wear the conqueror's crown and wear another crown to distant himself from the Maegor the cruel, the same crown was passed to Viserys then Rhaenyra) His bloodline died like Maegor.
Based Hightowers/Maester alliance, ended the age of dragons, unfortunately they couldn't save us from the massive shit pile of cringe with Danaerys and I Dun Won' it.
Because House Hightower consists of people actually fit to rule the realm. House Hightower even in GoT continues to be the most powerful individual house bar only the crown itself.
@@Tayzzy-h2g I’d say behind the Lannister’s as well, although their strength comes from a finite resource they still have the most centralised kingdom in Westeros
@@Stack4Freedom I mean yeah, but then you remember that House Hightower influences not only the Maesters but the common folk as well through Oldtown, that and they're as rich as the Lannisters.
@@elijahbrooks1472 how? In the end of fire and blood Cregan was still worried about the Hightowers because they could easily raise an army, they were about to but the wife of the lord hightower talked him out of it.
Yes Otto is right about the fact that Aegon is the rightful king by tradition and that when Viserys refused to name Aegon as his heir in favor of Rhaenyra and her kids who look nothing like Laenor he essentially has ruined the damage control that Jaehaerys has done by calling the Great Council of 101, planting the seeds of a bloody civil war that Jaehaerys tried to avoid. The problem is that he uses those truths to distract everyone else from his self serving grasp for power. In a smaller, less deadly setting, like a classroom, he’s the teachers pet who tells you “um actually” and reminds the teacher of homework, which makes you want to bash his head in.
The great council was an exception, not the rule. The King's word is the law. Just because Jaehaerys had a little trouble deciding which one should inherit among 14 suggestions, It doesn't mean that every king after him should ask the lords' opinions. Besides, Targaryens are above the traditions of Westeros, so the whole "Aegon II is the rightful heir by tradition" is nothing but BS, Westeros tradition also says incest is wrong and should be punishable, did the Targaryens get punished for breaking the tradition? No.
@@Chasingdreams25 Jaehaerys, as greatly respected as he was, knew that the Targaryens were on thin ice with their subjects by fighting to be allowed to marry brother to sister, even after Maegor’s war against the faith. I don’t think he wanted to anger the people any more. So he called the Great Council to let the realm decide who should rule it. He couldn’t just ignore Rhaenys’ claim on the basis that she was a woman because the Velaryons were too rich and powerful to dismiss entirely. Such a shame Viserys basically erased his grandfathers work, to put it very lightly. As much as I hate Otto, once Aegon was born, he should’ve made Aegon heir. The whole Dance could’ve been avoided (or at least mitigated) if he had done so.
Otto fucked the targaryens so hard they lost the dragons and even the kingdom. House Hightower didn't have any repercussions after the dance, but targaryens and velaryons in game of thrones, well you already know. Sigma male at it's finest If dormat Viserys hadn't proclaimed Rhaenyra as heir (because he was a beta who butchered his wife and now is guilty) and proclaimed Aegon as crown prince (we all know if Baelon had survived, he would have given 2 fucks about his first daughter ) none of this would have happened.
House Hightower remained one of the richest House in Westeros while the last " Targaryen " is wandering in the woods with wildlings beyond the Wall 😂😂 yeah you're right
Viserys is the main cause. at any point, since he had all the power, he could have legislated a solution to the growing tensions and flatly refuses to do so
I'm actually working on a video about why Alicent's children would never have been safe, even if they had peacefully submitted or allowed Rhaenyra to peacefully take the throne. The Issue wouldn't have necessarily have been Rhaenyra but the people around her and the idea there mere existence could be used by Rhaenyra's potential foes in the future as a banner to rally behind. I have a older video about Otto, but i do want to do a new one that goes into more detail about his reasoning a logic,
@@WorldOfWesteros who do you refer to? I don’t see Daemon or Corlys promoting slaughter. I think it was more paranoia and pushing agenda within the greens.
Rhaenyra will take Otto’s head when she takes back kings landing. Rhaenyra’s death and Aemond & Damon deaths will be epic. If u didn’t know they all die
Dude my initial comment was sarcastic obviously the Velaryons being black is a huge plot hole and makes zero sense and just because they are from wasps doesn’t make them a darker shade of skin colour in fact it makes them paler since they are Valyrians and the closest people in essos in the present time of the books are the people from Lys and Volantis who are the palest people in the world

In the book and on the show, it’s a clear picture that the greens don’t have a stable and a united leader ship, as well as the blacks
Otto‘s biggest mistake is that he spent the majority of his time, trying to destroy and shame Rhaenyra’s reputation, he ignored the other lords in the kingdoms. He’s trying to use political power to end the war but fails.
I really hope they show these parts in the show

Awe man
I can not help but respect this man for some reason, even tho his pride was his undoing his ambition was a flame so bright I can't help but respect it.
He's a hero for basically destroying the targaryens
Aegon II unseating Otto was arguably the greatest mistake in the Dance.

So what eventually happened to otto?
When Rhaenyra sacks and took back kings landing. Otto is one of the first to be beheaded as a traitor.
Not for nothing Otto Hightower is considered as everything a Hand of the King should NOT be.
For me it was very happy moment in book. I hope in show Daemon cut off Otto's head by Dark Sister
Then what happened? Did he die?
His head falls off
Ah the black wood and Brackens always know how to party
The Greens won the war, the Blacks won the conflict, House Hightower prospers, and House Targaryen dies.
I wonder if the white walkers are pulling on our Queen as well?…
The only good thing Lord Otto did was remove Daemon from the succession.
Oh man, and none of your blood lives you say, you're legacy, to shreds you say...
What I think is interesting is that Maegor also had a Hightower wife. So whenever the Hightowers and the Dragons marry shit will hit the fan...
With there close connection to the faith and citadel would not surprise me at all if there was more to it
It is with ambition of a non targaryan high born that cause chaos. Like lannisters in Got and Hightowers in dance of the dragons
I busted out laughing when I read his sudden fate. It was so fitting.
Aegon saying thrones are won with swords, not quills was incorrect and rash
Based Hightowers/Maester alliance, ended the age of dragons, unfortunately they couldn't save us from the massive shit pile of cringe with Danaerys and I Dun Won' it.
He played the game and lost.
How is House Hightower still around in GoT lol? This should’ve gotten their House wiped out
Because House Hightower consists of people actually fit to rule the realm.
@@Tayzzy-h2g idk I just feel like they should’ve been put to the sword like a House Casterly situation lol

Some men are made for peace others for war I guess.
Weird to show ashara dayne for black ally and maegor for aegon II
That's Aegon II , there's the golden dragon on his breastplate
Viserys should have held a second council and demanded the lords swear fealty AGAIN to his daughter Rhaenyra.
Otto fucked the targaryens so hard they lost the dragons and even the kingdom.
House Hightower didn't have any repercussions after the dance, but targaryens and velaryons in game of thrones, well you already know.
Sigma male at it's finest
If dormat Viserys hadn't proclaimed Rhaenyra as heir (because he was a beta who butchered his wife and now is guilty) and proclaimed Aegon as crown prince (we all know if Baelon had survived, he would have given 2 fucks about his first daughter ) none of this would have happened.
House Hightower remained one of the richest House in Westeros while the last " Targaryen " is wandering in the woods with wildlings beyond the Wall 😂😂 yeah you're right
The main cause of the dance besides Viserys
Viserys is the main cause. at any point, since he had all the power, he could have legislated a solution to the growing tensions and flatly refuses to do so
Viserys I should have kept Daemon as his heir or name Aegon II the moment he was born but no he kept a woman as his heir 😂😂

That's not Alysanne . It's Ashara Dayne
Can you do a video just on Otto? He seems to be the only one pushing the idea Rhaenyra would slaughter her half bros and sister.
