- The second battle of tumbleton is among the worst and most horrific battles in the whole of the dance of the dragons and would be the final nail in the coffin for some. Dragon would fight dragon in the chaos and would forever diminish the power of house targaryen and it power even further than the dragonpit did. But in this chaos heroes and legends would be born and the balance of power in the seven kingdoms of westeros would never be the same again.
The Dance Of The Dragons will be the focus of the plot of the new HBO spin-off House Of The Dragon coming in 2022. So if you want to learn the story before we see HBO's take on it then this will be a very long-running series. Game Of Thrones / House of the dragon are HBO shows based on Geroge R R Martins A Song Of Ice And Fire series. The information in this video comes from the books a world of ice and fire as well as fire and blood.
Much of the information in the video comes directly from Fire & Blood, with supplementary additions from the wiki and myself to enhance the narrative. I would highly recommend you pick up a copy of fire and blood and read it for yourself as it is criminally underrated.

The most infuriating thing about this battle is the pointless deaths of the dragons. The Green dragonriders were already dead before Addam arrived, meaning that all the dragons could have potentially been reclaimed by Black dragonriders, or just been allowed to escape into the wild and be reclaimed after the war, and cemented the Blacks' position. Not to mention that Addam basically threw his life away by attacking the riderless dragon.
It’s moment like this that actually make me question the reliability of the narrator
@@WorldOfWesteros this is why HotD is so important, the narrators of the story aren't really that reliable when it comes to alot of the events that play out, the show however is meant to show what really happens so we'll see when this battle takes place, we'll get a proper understanding of it all

RIP Adam Velaryon, probably one of the few Purely Good characters prevalent in the dance, at least he died proving not all bastards are disloyal.

To be fair Corlys Valerion argued so Adam would be his heir and he was likely treated better than the traitors whom Corlys argued against giving them lordships one could argue they’d earned.

Even though I’m a book reader it still amazes me to this day that not one person from either the Black or Green faction realized how utterly insane and stupid this war was. The Targaryens basically destroyed their ancient source of power in a timespan of only 3 years. Aegon, Jahaerys and even Maegor were rolling in their graves

It's amazing how Silverwing and Vermithor are basically dragon versions of their previous riders Jaeherys and Alyssane. And that Seasmoke would only bond with a rider who shared blood with Laenor. Which shows dragons can form a legit bond with each other or retain some piece of their past riders. Imagine if they fought on opposite side like the other two dragons who spent a lot of time together Caraxes and Vaghar.
I do think it is possible dragons can pick up traits of there riders especially if you believe there idea there is some kind of telepathic link involved. I think there is some evidence with Dannys dragons that could support that idea to some extent. i also wonder if the the fact Jaehaerys and Alyssanee were there first riders has any effect at all.

Yeah, I wonder if Vermithor and Silverwing would've resisted fighting each other before giving in. Caraxes and Vhagar seemed more than able to just start killing each other when they met, however, despite their previous 2 riders also being closely bonded. First Aemon and Baelon, then Daemon and Laena. But suddenly, Daemon and Aemond cause a massive rift
it's sad that the battle was after all pointless for Adam to die, he dindi't know that he was attacking dragons without riders... this battle is definely the final blow on the Targaryen dragons, 3 died, two young dragons and the greatest living dragon at that moment.
A sad end to the "Blue Queen" it's in my opinion the only known "mercy" killing that's justified

Unpopular opinion but this is my favourite battle from fire and blood. Only the battle of Rooks Rest could contest it for first place.
Tumbleton often gets overlooked by the multiple battles at the god's eye, so i'm glad so many others seem to have love for it.

I like the 1st battle at Tumbleton because the Blacks are so cocky, and the team black viewers will be too, and then they get humbled so fast

Vermithor was Jaeherys’ wroth come alive once more. So furious even the best of the dragon riders who were truly loyal were forced to fight, the most famous dragon at the time before Viserys’ reign and legends went insane and killed everything. The fact that the best and worst of the dragons were seen in this battle is really good writing.

reading fire and blood GRRM does this all over the place, i don't think he could get away with it in the main books. But i do love the Elmo and Kermit ones

honestly, if a single one of the green dragon riders got to his dragon I feel like the result of this battle would have been much different. Vermithor and tessarion fought each other as much as fighting adam and seasmoke because they didn't have riders to direct them, and silverwing stayed out of the fighting since she didn't have a rider to command her

I don't see why Alyn even bothered fighting a riderless dragon that he must've known was too large and fierce for Seasmoke. Not to mention, he should've known Vermithor was too angry to care for either side. He should've remained in the sky and waited for the carnage to end.
Also, perhaps Tessarion wanted to save her potential mate, Seasmoke. Or she sided with Vermithor since he was an ally with his rider Daeron before his death.
Man I so wish Daeron had survived this... Would have been a great king.

@@DEVILDOG3334 If Tessarion had survived, the Northmen would never have dared to descend south. They fear dragons, more than anyone. There are many clues of this in the saga : the King who knelt, Alaric Stark's attitude before Silverwing, Cregan Stark taking all the time in the world to finally intervene after the death of the dragons... And even without Tessarion, Daeron could easily have claimed Silverwing after the death of Rhaenyra (I don't think he would have dared with the Cannibal). It should also be noted that Daeron has close ties with Oldtown. The Hightowers would never have left him alone against Cregan Stark and they have plenty of human and financial resources to crush the North in open war.

No one would have dared to go to war against Tessarion or Silverwing. And let's be honest : Aegon was poisened because the members of his council didn't want to suffer the consequences of his defeat. With Daeron, a dragon or at least, the armies of Oldtown, it would have been completely different. And Aegon is not an oathbreaker, because he wasn't born when your old and stale oath was sworn...

I'm definitely looking to try and do this. I've been planning on its for a while. My proper editing PC died last year so i have to edit on my old macbook at the moment. It's very slow to render which is the issue. I have two 45 minute video essays ready to go just i can't export them. The good news is, i now have the new parts for my PC ordered so hopefully within the next month there should be longer videos coming.
In the tv show possibly addam and daeron will allied to stop vermithor in the middle of the battle

My theory for why Tessarion ganged up on Vermithor and why Tessarion and Seasmoke practically danced in the air, is that Daeron actually did survive, and fought Addam at first, before then teaming up in a sense to take Vermithor down, dying in the struggle in the mud, and because of how chaotic it was and how far people had to be from the dragons, the accounts don’t mention him on tessarion because no one who did survive was close enough to see him.
I want some battles to get 2 episode nőt just 4-5 minutes. They should increase budget

I feel like when we get to this point in the books, they'll have Daeron and Hugh actually participate in the dragon battle and then die during the battle or afterwards.

I'd argue this battle was just as bad as the dragon pit. Between the dragons at tumbleton, Seasmoke and sunfyre, there would have been more than enough to rebuild. This really was the final blow.

I hope they have Hugh kill Daeron himself taking command of the army of Tumbleton and then that he gets to ride Vermithor against Adam and Seasnake before they are grounded and then have Hugh fall from Vermithor begin fighting on the ground and finally slain by Orphanmaker.

I hope they change this battle in the show. I hate the way it went down in the books, it makes no sense “narratively”. What I mean by that is what makes a good story is when you buildup a conflict and have a satisfying conclusion. Almost everything in this battle was perfect but the thing I dislike is the way Daeron dies, that is not how you write a satisfying story. That’s how you “subvert expectations” and write a shit ending like Cersei and Jamie being killed by some falling debris. I say keep everything in this battle including Hugh hammer being killed in sword combat and maybe even Ulf the White sleeping through it but keep Daeron alive so he can mount his dragon and fight Addam Velaryon atop Seasmoke. I think this is a better conclusion to the battle, because it highlights everything the Civil war is about. When politicians and families fight it is the Children who suffer most and nothing highlights this fact more than 2 of the youngest and noblest on both sides killing each other for the mistakes their parents made.
i do have a feeling that there will be some changes. maybe this could be among them. I'm not a fan of how he dies and i think if it is going to work on screen then changes will need to made. what you've suggested makes perfect sense.

@@Kunumbah1 agreed, there's already so many characters who get a lackluster death in this story. Criston Cole, Dalton Greyjoy, Pate of Longleaf, Aegon II, pretty much all of Rhaenyra's kids, I mean the list is long. It's pretty much the norm but I think a character like Daeron deserves better
then maybe Vermithor accidently kills Daron and that why Tessarion fights him
@@Captain_Insano_nomercy I hope they have Aegon actually poison himself instead of the council poisoning him tbh, it makes since he will be very broken at that point and he practically lost the war, and he was in so much pain, and I feel like it makes since for his character arc tbh, he would also do it because he knows its safer if he dies and Aegon the younger is heir to the throne and weds his daughter, than him being defeated by the northern army, and endangering his daughter and mother, I feel like this would be his final sacrifice, but I agree with Daeron for sure and I think they can make that change to enrich the story and the battle further
