  • Dyeing scales I used approximately 1/4 cup Rit liquid dye for synthetics / 1/4 cup vinegar and 2 quarts water. Bring solution to almost boiling. I left them go about 10-12 minutes. But you can experiment with it and see what works best for you. I have varied this formula and it seems to produce the same results. All purpose dye is probably just as effective except maybe for FRN scales but see what you think.
    Remember to use surgical gloves to keep from staining your hands. Also best to use stainless steel pans and stainless steel sink to prevent staining.

      Prob a dumb question but if I have scales say idk camo or some other color can I dye it another color or does it have to be a neutral color?

    I definitely prefer the dark red over bright red. I did my Medford 187F that dark red the other day. As for blue, I hate blue...I'm one of the few knife nuts who doesn't like blue on knives...I'd rather have purple or pink than blue lol

    I’ve actually learned more in the past 2 days about fit finish and knife quality of China manufactured knives and man dying Knife scales and Rockwell testing than the past several decades , Holy Shit I didn’t know how to dye scales until now. If you don’t subscribe to “Luv them Knives” you’re a mouth breathing Idiot. Lol so stop licking that window glass and subscribe.

    Damn, those turned out NICE! 👍
    Hey dude, get creative with one of your whiter colored scales. Dye one end blue, leave the middle white and the other end red. The boys at the pub will be impressed!

    Is it possible to to dye colored scales like if i tried to dye the blue bugout?

    • @LuvThemKnives
      @LuvThemKnives  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      nate k You can dye the blue scales but only if you go darker. Can’t go lighter. Could go navy or black. I don’t think you can go red or green. I’d probably end up dark brown.

    Throw in some carrots and onions and we got dinner!I think they all look great. Those reds my favorite, but the blues are rich as well. Thanks for sharing the recipe. Looks like fun, except the hard parts...

    Wow, what an undertaking with eight at once.
    Results aren't bad though.
    You could probably dab a blue sharpee on that Backlash.
    The scale patterns all look nice.
    Wish that Wyvern had a reversible clip as I really dig those scales.
    Thanks for the upload.

    I have a red bone jigged rough ryder and recently had to use isopropyl to clean it, surprisingly the dye bled a lot during the brisk cleaning, how would I re-dye a peice like this?/

    Do you have to dilute the dye or can you use it the way it comes in the bottle?

    The sapphire blue on my Ruike P155 turned out way darker than I wanted. Your sapphire blue scales is the shade I was going for, but I made a rookie mistake and left my scales in too long, now they look black. I am going to research and see if I can bleach them out a bit to lighten the color.

    • @richc294
      @richc294 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I soaked the sapphire blue scales for three and a half hours in pure bleach, and it did nothing to lighten the color.

    Dude I could NOT STOP laughing !! The cursing is how I feel sometimes when I strip a screw and my son has to watch me yelling about quality control etc and why this and that 😂🤣🤣 I know the sentiment my friend! You’ve got some really good ideas for scale dying - funny because jade G10 and tan g10 by Civivi are my two favorite scale colors out now in g10 so I can never bear to try to make it better unless it’s screaming white and cheap. The red wyvern looks kinda cool with that Chinese dark royal 👑 red, with dragon scales. Niiiiiice man. Your commentary is so effing perfect though - cracks me up.

    LTK, they all look great. I particularly like the Twosuns. Awesome vid .... BTW, soldering iron 45 seconds on the Civivi will get that apart unless the pivot is stripped.

    I dyed my light blue scales with royal blue rit dye. I kept the backspacers of the Shard and Wyvern the original color. Also dyed a Begleiter.
    The blue Wyvern ended up a blurple color. Overall, they all look great. 👍🏽🔪

  • @Kavik79
    @Kavik79 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Those all came out great. I actually like the Wyvern dark, looks more natural, like the kind of red I'd expect to see on a wyvern/dragon.
    I gotta get on doing some of this myself

  • @ronatkinson4142

    So you have to get a tan or light colored scales to dye? I want to dye one my high school colors if possible, navy blue on one side and Columbia blue on the other side.
