    LEGENDARIES - a Very General (not concrete) Ranking:
    1. Mystic Kilt of the Rune Master - Legs

    Assuming perfect play, the best single target legendary combo is:
    - Shard of the Exodar
    - Soul of the Archmage
    This combination of legendaries can be VERY unforgiving of mistakes - use at your own risk!

    MANA TRACKING
    To Display Mana Percentage:
    I'm displaying the mana % and every other icon that you see on my UI using an AddOn called "TellMeWhen".
    If you use or download TellMeWhen, type "/tmw" in your game's chat bar to open the settings window. Now, go to the group tab (bottom right), then create a new group (top left of group window), select "bar" instead of "icon", the dimensions are 1 row and 1 column, deselect "Show Icon" in the "Bar" section, type in a new name for the group (like "mana %") at the top right and press enter, and then close the window by clicking the X.
    Next, right-click the empty bar on your screen to open up the tmw settings window again. Now you should be looking at the "icon" tab. Select "Resource Display" in the drop-down menu found in the top left corner of the TMW settings window, and then select "Mana" from the drop-down menu under Resource Type. That'll get you started - from there, all that's left is to change its appearance.
    I checked the "Override Group Color" boxes in the "Timer Bar" and "Bar Backdrop" sections. Then I set the opacity of each color selection to 0%. The text display I have selected is the default "Bar Layout 1". With Text Display 1 left as is, for Text Display 2, copy this string:
    [Spell] [Stacks:Hide(0):Paren]
    and paste it into the 2nd display box under "Text Displays" in TellMeWhen.
    You're done! Hope this helps!

      I'm glad that the guide was helpful for you! When making these videos, I figure that if someone is actively searching online for a guide on how to play a spec in WoW, I can assume that they're not super comfortable with that spec and perhaps not even with the game as a whole yet. So, because of that, I really try to remember what it was like for me back when my understanding of the game wasn't anything like what it is now and I put myself back in that position - the position of many of my viewers.
      With that in mind, I just try to break the spec down in a way that's easy to understand and then organize it into the video in a way that's easy to follow. I think that that's what I would have wanted back in the day when I was also a "noob" - so that's what I try and do. Though, I struggle with it sometimes because I could talk for WAY too long about minor details that very few people would care about.... lol xD
      It's nice to know that the people who find my videos are also finding them to be helpful - must mean that I'm doing something right. So, thank you! :)

    I greatly enjoyed your simple descriptions of the arcane mage, and its abilities. While I may never delve into the spec myself, as it requires a bit too much resource micromanaging for my taste, it's interesting to see how the mechanics of it work.

    I got sick of waiting for the legendary bracers to drop for my Fire Mage and decided to go Arcane since I’ve always thought it looked fun. Thanks for the great guide! I wish more people put as much time into class guides like you did here. And I hope I can hack it with the class ring and lust ring.... To the practice dummy I go!

      Thank you very much for the compliment! I’m glad that you liked this guide!
      At high levels of play, the double legendary ring setup (class ring + time warp ring) is actually the “best” legendary combo for Arcane’s single target. The legendary legs definitely makes the spec more forgiving but, technically speaking, you’re using the BiS legendaries! And you’re on the right track heading to the training dummies because it requires a higher skill cap to correctly use the double ring!
      Thanks again, and good luck!

    I have always been a tank or healer because I couldn't find a DPS spec that resonated with me.
    But now I am loving arcane so much that I might take it to BfA. I really like that the spec keeps you on your toes.

    Great guide. Only thing that's causing me problems is lining the cooldowns after the first burn phase without losing too much mana to do decent dps.

      @IronStarGaming  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I'm glad you liked the guide! Yeah, lining up cooldowns can definitely be a little tricky to figure out at first. Fortunately, after plenty of time practicing, you'll start to really get a good feel for how cooldowns line up at different times and also how to manage your mana for each of those cooldown windows.

    Arcane is the most fun dps spec in the game in my opinion, and feels so good when bursting. I'd rather be legendary in a not so popular class than to be ok in the most popular.

    • @IronStarGaming

      I also thoroughly enjoy playing the minority specs. When Arcane was my main spec back in Emerald Nightmare, when the talent, Quickening, (R.i.P.)* was still a thing, the percentage of mages who were Arcane was even lower than it is now - and I loved it for that. As an Arcane mage at that time, I can say from experience that the community perception of Arcane was that it was a horrible spec vastly inferior to Arcane. But, people rarely ever came across them then.
      For me, nothing was more satisfying than crossing paths with another mage who was equally geared and playing fire (like every other mage). Usually, those players had a clear chip on their shoulder against me because they were fire while I was Arcane. The satisfaction though came after repeatedly burying them on the dps meters - on bosses of all types (single target and AoE) - and then seeing them whisper me a little while later about how OP Arcane must be! Lol What a turn around in perception that person must have just had! Haha xD
      *R.i.P. Quickening - Gone, but not forgotten.

    So just a few words from an arcane mage:
    When running kilt use evo for 2 ticks max only, after first initial tick. Its 25% mana per tick, thus 4th tick is wasted due to regen.
    Try to always use an ABL after evo if you ABarr soon as to not cap on mana while building up charges (Doesn't necessarily apply to sets without kilt).
    In combination with 4pc t21 it is ok to use POM during RoP and MoA if AP has ~ 30 sec left on cd.
    Line up all of your cds for your 3rd AP even if you delay them ~10 sec to maximize burst.
    Otherwise great guide!! :)

    • @IronStarGaming
      @IronStarGaming  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm glad you liked the guide! :) And thank you for the clarifications/advice!
      I'd like to include some of my own thoughts regarding your advice above, just in case other viewers come across this and it raises questions for them.
      I tried to create this guide for individuals who were new to the spec and/or were new players in general. Considering my targeted audience, I tried to stay away from any potential rotational changes due to legendaries, trinkets, and tier set-bonuses in order to keep the guide focused on the core functionality of the spec. (which is surprisingly difficult to do... lol) So, that's mostly what I did.
      That being said, I fully agree with the advice you've included and I'm sure there will be people coming through here looking for information like what you've provided - not just a bare-bones/naked Arcane Guide.
      To comment on your suggestion to always cast Arcane Blast after Evo, I'm assuming that you are referencing the part in the video when I instead used Arcane Missiles (found at 24:49). That was a user error on my part. A good "do as I say, not as I do" moment. Haha. I've discovered that it's a lot more difficult than it sounds to record, talk, and demonstrate all at once. In practice though, I'll only use Arcane Missiles to interrupt the Evo channel depending on the answers to two questions: 1) will casting Arcane Missiles put me at risk of potentially capping mana due to natural regen and 2) if I don't cast Arcane Missiles, could I waste a Missiles proc by casting an Arcane Blast or Arcane Explosion.
      The potential to waste an Arcane Missiles proc after channeling Evo is a rare case, but it can happen if you're getting an extremely large number of Missiles procs while trying to burn your mana. In that event, you could end up holding two Missiles charges, trying desperately to burn mana with Arcane Blast (in order to keep Arcane Power and Evo cd's relatively lined up with each other), and then generate a third Missiles charge on your last Arcane Blast before channeling Evo. Now, while channeling Evo, you're at three charges of Arcane Missiles, with risk of generating a "fourth" Missiles proc after your Evo channel. That's when I'll choose to use Arcane Missiles. I definitely agree though that it's a better practice to use an Arcane Blast after Evo (when using the kilt), especially for less familiar Arcane players. This is a solid example of why I always strongly advocate for endless amounts of practice and familiarity with Arcane, so that players can make on the fly decisions like these.
      Thanks again for the constructive (non-aggressive) advice and for the compliment! Plus, it's always fun to do a little theory-crafting! :)

    • @mweb6908
      @mweb6908 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      IronStar Gaming
      I completely agree with your logic. The ABL after evo only applies if :
      You have
      2 or less AM procs (then ABL into AM)
      ST fight.
      I have to admit not doing it 100% of the time as well. Its more a suggestion for building muscle memory.
      Since i mostly ABarr soon after evo, taking full ticks into AM/ ABarr and then building up stacks again caps me on mana.
      Regarding leggos you should mention double ring for st or ring kilt as top. On aoe its kilt mantle / sephuz.
      Also OP is unbeaten even on heavy aoe encounters in ToS (~8%). The only talents worth swapping would be IF/RoP or Amp/AF, NT/ER since value of missiles decreases proportionally with the amount and consistency of adds, as well as your role (pure aoe, pure bossdmg, cleave).
      I did not want to criticise as I truly highly appreciate the guide. It is one, if not the most informational guide (with the links and all that stuff) that I've seen yet. So i thought lets add sth^^.
      I've revised the comment a bit and wanna apologize if it sounded aggressive (omg does stuff like this actually happen on yt :D )
      Also one more question since I am thinking of rerolling fire for ATB WILL THERE BE A FIRE GUIDE? :D

    • @IronStarGaming
      @IronStarGaming  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha no worries! I didn't take your comment as aggressive (which is why I took the time to respond). I was actually hoping that my earlier reply wouldn't sound aggressive as well - or even imply that I took your comment as being aggressive. It's totally fine though, discussions like these are fantastic for the mage community and I am happy to contribute to them! It's not often that we come across civil "discussions" on TH-cam so I think that it's great! lol
      And YES, a fire guide is coming soon! ;) I hope, anyways - been super busy IRL these last few weeks with no signs of things slowing down in the near future. I've actually begun working on the fire guide recently where I've recorded two versions of it so far. Now, I'm in the process of analyzing those to versions, trying to filter and cut it down in order to give it more of a focus. Once I do that, I'll re-record it because (much like when making this Arcane guide) I found myself talking for too long about small details that don't mean that much to most people. I have a habit of talking too much about specs that I enjoy playing. xD

    • @IronStarGaming
      @IronStarGaming  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you found the guide to be helpful! Yeah, Arcane has a tendency to be unfriendly to new users for that reason exactly - even if said new user is an experienced/seasoned WoW player. I would also consider Arcane to be less "straight forward" than most specs in the game. In my opinion, a lot of specs in the game have some sort of built in mechanic that sort of holds holds players' hands (in terms of raw output) when they're first starting out. Not Arcane.
      For example, as a Beast Master Hunter, if you use too many Cobra Shots while Kill Command is on cooldown, the punishment is that you are forced to sit for a few seconds while waiting to regenerate enough focus to use Kill Command again. It's a result that doesn't feel good but you'll be able to bounce back relatively quickly. As Arcane, if you make the same mistake as described above with Beast Master, not only will you be unable to fully make use of your cooldowns when they do become available (the entire point of the spec), but you'll also become essentially useless for the next minute and a half. Not a fun time... I've done it and have been there... haha xD. BUT, when done correctly, Arcane can be so very rewarding to play.
      My point to this overly long response is to say not to get discouraged with Arcane when you're just getting into it because it can be so rewarding once it all starts to click and make sense. It just takes a lot of practice to generate the muscle memory and then the instincts to properly use your mana. Good luck! :)

    Great video. You are very well informed and experienced in Arcane Mage. However after taking your advice i feel like Arcane mage just can't really compete unless you have those specific Legendary items. I can't regain Mana back since i don't have the legs, so dumping my charges only providdes a small time of conserved but also as well as losing a lot of damage. I'm having trouble maintaining DPS during long fights and as well as trash AoE mobs. I don't know if i'm doing something wrong but i honestly feel like not having those legendaries put you at a great disadvantage when you're trying to output damage in a mythic +. What did you do before you got those legendaries? Was your method different? I'm not trashing you or anything of the sort I'm just curious since i'm new at mage i know i must be doing something wrong but i don't know what. I'd appreciate any advice you or anyone else may give. Thanks!

    Thanks dude, this video is fantastic!
    Just wanted to ask.. After ending a burn phase (Or just dumping your charges in general), what percentage of mana do you usually decide to do that at? Do you have a specific point like, say 50-60%?

    • @IronStarGaming
      @IronStarGaming  6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Thank you! I'm really glad that you liked the video!
      Also, excellent question!
      The point at which you decide to dump your Arcane charges will vary greatly from one player to the other due to a number of factors: how much mastery (max mana) you have, your haste level (the rate at which you can burn), which legendaries you're wearing, when your cooldowns are coming back up, etc.
      That being said, I wish I could provide you with a number saying "after your burn phase, use Arcane Barrage to dump your charges when your reach 'X%' of mana", but I cant. However, for me, with my gear and whatnot, after my burn phase and using evocation, I usually continue burning until right around 65-75ish percent mana and then I dump my charges - but what's best for you could be very different!
      The tricky part is that you quite literally need to figure out what is a good percentage point for you with nothing more than in-game testing. You might end up spending a lot of time on the training dummies until you figure out where that sweet-spot is and then spend even more time on the dummies training your brain & muscle memory to recognize that point so you don't have to think about it. And all it takes sometimes is one too many Arcane Blasts to be the difference between a good burn phase and a non-existent burn phase so it's a very important mechanic!
      When you're testing, just remember that the idea of your conserve phase is to make sure you have just enough mana (not too much and not too little) for a full powered burn phase. If you start burning with too much mana, it means you could have spent more time at 4 charges (doing more damage) during your conserve phase and that you now run the risk of offsetting the cd's for Arcane Power and Evocation by too much when you go into your next burn phase. On the other hand, if you start burning with too little mana, your burn phase could die out during Arcane Power and/or you end up out of mana before Evocation is ready again.
      This might not have been the answer that you or others with the same question were looking for, but this is the most accurate answer I can provide. Saying "always dump your charges at 'this' percent", would be the wrong number for most people. Hope this helps to clear things up and good luck!

    1 question: you're prioritizing arcane blast during burn phase over arcane missiles to take advantage of the reduced mana cost, but wouldn't your damage output be higher if you cast more arcane missiles while arcane power is up rather than spending that time throwing out arcane blasts? Cheers!

    hey great video but I have a question. How do you display mana %?

    • @IronStarGaming
      @IronStarGaming  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That'll get you started where from there, all you really have to do is change its appearance and whatnot.
      For me, I've checked the "Override Group Color" boxes in the "Timer Bar" and "Bar Backdrop" sections and then I set the opacity of each color selection to 0%. The text display I have selected is the default "Bar Layout 1" with no changes made to the first text in Text Display 1, but I have changed Text Display 2. Simply copy/paste what's inside the quotations here "[Spell] [Stacks:Hide(0):Paren]" into the 2nd display box under "Text Displays" in TellMeWhen.
      Then you should be done! Hope this helps!

    Do you want to weave arcane blasts in between your Missiles like that? No one seems to be using the leggo that refunds mana atm so it feels like you would burn too much mana if you did that now

    • @IronStarGaming
      @IronStarGaming  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've almost always had better results weaving missiles and blasts together (while at high mana) but it is not something you would want to do at lower mana, for sure. It's a decision you'll have to make on the fly. But, all you can do is try it out for yourself and see if it works with your current amount of mastery, current amount of haste, and your equipped legendaries.

    Is it more gear/legendary dependant than Frost?

    • @IronStarGaming
      @IronStarGaming  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Depends how you look at it, in my opinion. I would say that it's definitely less legendary dependent than Fire, but on par with or perhaps only slightly more legendary dependent than Frost. However, Arcane isn't nearly as legendary dependent as it was earlier on in the expansion!

  • @Funguspower2
    @Funguspower2 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would you change anything without those legs during conserve phase? I think i have to use arcane missles to get that 4th charge or I just start sinking in mana

    • @IronStarGaming
      @IronStarGaming  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Funguspower2 No, conserve phase without the legs should be the same general concept as is shown in the video - but you’ll want to dump your charges to begin conserving earlier (perhaps, just one arcane blast before arcane barrage) after channeling evo back to 100% mana. And you should always be using missiles at Arcane 4 charges to deal damage while things are most expensive, not to build charges - save missiles procs while building charges, get to 4 charges, use missiles, use arcane barrage, repeat.
      You’ll still always decrease in mana during your conserve phase as your cycle through building 4 charges and dumping 4 charges. Without the legs, it’s just the way the spec works, unfortunately. The conserve phase is only meant to ensure that you have just enough mana to have a fully effective burn phase.
      If you’re still struggling, boosting the amount of mastery you have will definitely help as it’ll increase the size of your mana pool. But that sort of thing you’ll have to test different things and try to “feel out” what works for you.
      Hope this helps!

    • @Funguspower2
      @Funguspower2 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great help thanks! I am 917 at the moment with just the belt of infinity as a dps increase I am doing around 820k dps on most fights. Took a break from the game just trying to get myself to be raid worthy again for a normal ToS !

    • @IronStarGaming
      @IronStarGaming  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Funguspower2 Not bad! I’d guesstimate that 820k dps at 917 with only one dps legendary is pretty decent. Keep it up!
      And as you get more gear, remember to always keep practicing your rotation so you’re as familiar as possible with mana costs (when to dump charges & and when to squeeze in one more Arcane Blast) because those “points” change with gear (change in mastery, change in haste, etc). Good luck in ToS!

So that's what I rolled with. And now, I just cant get myself to pull the trigger on a race change... and I cant imagine a Human or Night Elf with a name like "Shungpo". The primary stat food buff is nice though... that sweet 1k intellect food buff.

    If i Download ur Mage-UI i have no arcane Charge bar -.-

    • @IronStarGaming
      @IronStarGaming  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's rather odd. You're sure you downloaded the Arcane ElvUI profile and not the Frost or Fire profiles? The Frost and Fire profiles wont show the bar that displays your Arcane charges (the "classbar") because it's disable for them. But, if for whatever reason something happened that disabled the classbar or if you did accidentally download the Frost or Fire profile, it's very easy to enable.
      To re-enable the classbar, follow these simple steps:
      1. Open the ElvUI settings
      2. Scroll down to "Unit Frames" and click the "+" icon (right next to "Unit Frames") to expand the selection
      3. Click "Player Frame" to open the settings for the Player Unit Frame
      4. Select the tab at the top of the Player Frame settings window labeled "Classbar"
      5. Check the enable/disable box to finally enable the classbar.
      That's all there is to it! With that done, you can adjust its settings as you see fit from there. Hope this helps!

      Hey thx for your quick answer

    • @IronStarGaming
      @IronStarGaming  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always recommend to people that they should try to build their own UI rather than copy from someone else, so good for you - you're ahead of the game!
      The Arcane Charge bar you see here in my UI is not coming from TMW. That is actually being displayed by the addon "ElvUI". I don't know if you already use ElvUI or if you are even interested in using it, but if you haven't already checked it out, I actually have two videos on my channel that might be able to help you with your UI. The first video is all about ElvUI and the second one is all about TellMeWhen. Each video goes over how/where to download the actual addon, how to setup and use the addon (including a section in the ElvUI video that shows you how to track things like Arcane Charges, Chi, and Combo Points), and also how to import other people's profiles into your own (if you wanted to do so).
      Personally, I would recommend using ElvUI to show your charges (or, if you prefer, a standalone addon that's purpose built for things like displaying Arcane Charges) and not using TMW for that.
      BUT, you can still use TMW if you want to. Rather than me explain how to do it with TMW in a comment, I can provide you with a TMW string to import from a quick test I just did. This TMW group shows four bars that fill up one at a time with each Arcane Charge. You can do with it whatever you'd like. Or, if nothing else, you can analyze the settings I used to see how I made it work and implement that into your own setup. Just copy and paste this string (below) into TMW and import the group from string. Good luck!

      arcane mage being the best warlock spec?

  • @kevinrex7414
    @kevinrex7414 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Arcane needs a rework. The mana usage is annoying and too much of a headache for blizz to balance. Arcane needs to be a regular builder and spender spec; instead, of a burn and conserve spec. Timing all the damage around arcane power is not fun. Steady damage throughout the encounter is funner because if you fuck up the 10 seconds in arcane power your damage will not plummet as much as it does now on live.
