I love the pikmin series but I feel this game is not cannon
I respect your opinion, but unless Nintendo themselves say whether it's canon or not, I am going to assume it is canon. I also currently put it after Pikmin 4 in the timeline, as that would give them time to explain the jetpack, SS Dolphin II, and other minor things with this game. I don't see anything too crazy that it couldn't be canon.
Whether this is canon or not really doesn't matter. I mean this is Pikmin not Zelda or some story based RPG series, I play these games for fun not for some deep canonical story.
I think the default assumption should be that it is not canon, due to weird things like how it takes place on a whole new planet but has similar wild life.
The Pikmin lore is actually pretty good.

I guess this game seems ok. Like, I was outraged at how this looked at first, then I realized. It may be bad, but still be worth playing as a huge pikmin fan.
The amount of creatures alone makes me wanna pick this game up.

Nice review. I feel the catagory and scoring system is a little redundant or arbitrary, personally, but maybe that just helps making the video format a little more entertaining. I would have rated the game slightly lower myself, but good review.^^

Is it me or are Olimar and the Pikmin a lot smaller than usual. I haven't played the game but the Bulborb here feels as tall as a Beady Long Legs in the core games

Actually, the ship does warn you the first time, saying something along the lines of "red alert, literally. Pikmin are in danger."
You say level design is good, yet have you gotten the gold statue for level 8-X (the one with the raft and the fire meteors) ? Thanks to one hit KOs and red pikmin not being resistant to fire in this you can lose pikmin to the fire, to other creatures bumping into you, accidentally throwing a pikmin off the edge, or if your going for all the treasures, the pikmin with the bomb rock being hit and blowing up all the pikmin. It's harder than getting the hold for literally every level, and a gigantic difficulty spike from the rest of the game.
Nate mock ive almost finished the game 100%, ive gotten every object and ive done every level without dying and theres only area 9 left... and 8-X without dying.
I was going for a no death run and I whistled but instead I threw a pikmin into some poison. So I had to repeat the level for the 10th time

You can tap the screen and then drag to one of the buttons which makes it easy

For the jet pack disband if you are not near them for too long they will get lost and if you get hurt (If they are disbanded they will get lost. If not they will run like crazy)

I honestly felt the bosses to be underwhelming, I found it too easy and I felt that all the pikmin skills were not utilized to the fullest. The fact that only one color is used in every battle is too simple, yet in the case of Long Water Dumple and Queen Shearwig it's acceptable due to the conditions preventing other Pikmin from being used. Not to mention some bosses had little need for elemental types since the pikmin you had were immune respectively as to say only Olimar is in danger so why worry about the fire or electric attacks?
I would have found ways to utilize more pikmin types for most bosses. Yellow Pikmin would have been useful to hit Bulborbs eyes from high up if it never bent down to reach.
Adding Reds or yellows to the Armuk would help in two ways, it gives you pikmin that can latch and jump on weakspots (red being stronger, and yellows could be used to hit Armuk in a phase where it sticks to the ceiling as it continues to drop rocks from above as you are forced to bring it down.
Electric cottonade should have reds as to make the electric attacks more threatening and to add more firepower to your attack by having you use yellows to knock it down so the the reds could reach it. It also may have worked as another flying boss section like the Queen Shearwig, except it's now a giant bug zapper.
Fiery Blowhog, If the platform can be placed out of the Pikmins reach then it won't defeat the purpose of the bomb rocks. Yellows would make the fire more lethal as the reds are immune to the fire. The purpose of the yellows is that the bomb rocks would be way too high for the reds to grab so you would toss them to get it. However the blowhog will sometimes set the ground/cave door on fire so you would need to have the reds put them out so you can get the yellows safely across as you need to pass to the other side.
Luring slurker should have a phase where it keeps it's ice armor and can only be broken with rock pikmin. I honestly don't think the blue pikmin or the changing water levels served any purpose to the battle, I don't remember any point where you had to swim so... Perhaps if there was a phase where you fell into the water and it froze the surface of the water as it used it's tongue to eat you as you attempt to break the ice above to get out of the water, then maybe the Blue Pikmin would have purpose in the battle.
Emperor Bulblax, all I can think of using is yellow pikmin with out of reach bomb rocks...
For the final boss I believe their should have been a seperate phase for each type of Pikmin to test your skills utilizing everything you learned about using their unique abilities (or at least a combination of the colors for 4 phases: Red and Yellow, a swimming section, Rocks with any type, and a flying/slide section.) It's a final boss, you should be tested against all Pikmin types otherwise it's heavily one sided. Do not lie, this boss would be demolished if white Pikmin were here.
These are just my personal opinions. I know this is a casual game but I don't think I was asking for too much. The bosses were too simple, having your arsenal decided for you took out the need for strategic planning (however simple it is). Every boss is literally, run from attack, wait for the opening, spam throw, repeat (give or take a bomb rock or crumbug). Having to manage more than one Pikmin type doesn't have to be complex, Armored Mawdad needed red and rocks to beat but that didn't make it complicated.
Anyway I still enjoyed the game for what it is, I just wish there was more.

If IS a Spin-off game, i can't be too hard with it. The problem comes when you consider this game part of the Pikmin main trilogy, that it is not the case. In my case, the first time i saw it i consider it cannon, thing that i really don't like in any way. But thankfully with this new point of view it like a spinoff game that hasn't any kind of relation with the main history of Pikmin, maybe i will give it a chance and buy it for my Pikmin collection

While I don't mind watching a 30 min vid most people are put off by that so I would shorten it, but you do what works best for you and experiment a little

I mostly agree with this review expect that I would give a lower score to extras/replayabilit . The fact that Hey Pikmin gives you medals for completing levels without killing pikmin than gives you no reward for doing that on all levels is bullshit. I would have much rather had there be no medals so people wouldn't feel inclined to beat stages without any deaths. it would also make the combat feel less punishing because you can replenish your pikmin later in the level and you don't feel like you're missing out on anything by not having a perfect run of the level.
I didn't have a lot of fun playing through Hey Pikmin and I think the reason for that is I tried to get 100% on every level before I moved on to the next one and since the combat is flawed at times it made me have to replay stages way too much due to unfair pikmin deaths.
If they make a Hey Pikmin sequel they really need to tweak the combat/mechanics and add some 100% rewards like a bonus sector for example. also they should add purple and white pikmin. So much potential for cool poison puzzles

You give 10's far too easily. It doesn't make sense for a perfect score to be given to anything that doesn't stand far above everything else. (because otherwise how would you distinguish them in scores if the things it is standing above are also 10s).

I don't particularly understand the hate for this game. I've played through it, and while I don't think it's as fleshed out as the other games, it's a good game in it's own regard. I never really found accuracy a problem either, but I play on a 3DS XL so maybe that helps somewhat.
I hope Pikmin 4 will be realesed within 1 year. Because i don't want it to be delayed like BOTW. I really would like to play it in 2018

Poké Dudes a while back, nintendo/one of the higher ups stated that they had pikmin 4 almost finished out of nowhere.Few months pass, then they say that they haven't finished due to it not being a 'priority' for them. Think this was around the time the switch wasn't out yet, but I'm not too sure.

Correct Hey Pikmin added more enemies, brought back old ones, used flying Pikmin like in smash in a new way, gave Olimar a jet pack, and expanded the world. There’s a lot of things added in hey Pikmin that would be amazing in the mainline games

I believe Hey, Pikmin is game for Pikmin fans. Not for people who are trying to play pikmin. Pikmin 3 kind of trains pikmin fans for Hey, Pikmin.
Who knows Maybe Hey Pikmin will make Pikmin 4 more popular since the fans who only played Hey Pikmin will want to play the Main line games
