The hosts did a fine job on this one, but the numbers are probably a little trickier than they think. With November coming she's got rent and maybe utilities bills coming up and no paychecks coming in mid-November. Probably should have done a bit of digging on that before advising her to knock her checking account down to $2000 right now. The good news is she should still get a paycheck mid-vacation, and she can go into hyper-frugal mode when she gets back to stretch things out until the next paycheck comes in. Also, if she's hourly, she could try to work extra shifts before and after the trip to make some of that up.
Anyway, to the caller I would say (as they said), go out with your friends, but do it on the cheap. You don't have to get blasted on $300 of fancy alcohol and make bad decisions every night for a week to have fun. Be the designated driver, avoid Uber charges, take care of your friends. If it's available, take full advantage of continental breakfast, grab some fruit for later, then eat light the rest of the day, e.g. just get an appetizer at that fancy restaurant your friends want to go to. Make it your goal to have enough money by the time your paychecks resume to wipe out the rest of that debt. Yes, I would say postpone going debt free for a month. You're doing a great job and it's not going to be the end of the world to wait an extra month.

Excellent advice- as the big items of the trips are paid for, just go and enjoy without spending too much. I despise the fact that people are made to feel ashamed for not overdoing spending. Spending does not equal love and affection.
