Lyrics
Shyness is nice, and
Shyness can stop you
From doing all the things in life
You'd like to
Shyness is nice, and
Shyness can stop you
From doing all the things in life
You'd like to
So, if there's something you'd like to try
If there's something you'd like to try
Ask me, I won't say no, how could I?
Coyness is nice, and
Coyness can stop you
From saying all the things in
Life you'd like to
So, if there's something you'd like to try
If there's something you'd like to try
Ask me, I won't say no, how could I?
Spending warm summer days indoors
Writing frightening verse
To a buck-toothed girl in Luxembourg
Ask me, ask me, ask me
Ask me, ask me, ask me
Because if it's not love
Then it's the bomb, the bomb, the bomb, the bomb, the bomb, the bomb, the bomb
That will bring us together
Nature is a language, can't you read?
Nature is a language can't you read?
So ask me, ask me, ask me
Ask me, ask me, ask me
Because if it's not love
Then it's the bomb, the bomb, the bomb, the bomb, the bomb, the bomb, the bomb
That will bring us together
If it's not love
Then it's the bomb
Then it's the bomb
That will bring us together
So ask me, ask me, ask me
Ask me, ask me, ask me
Oh, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la
La, la, la, la
La, la, la, la
La, la, la, la
La, la, la, la
La, la, la, la
La, la, la, la

The most extroverted and beautiful song about being shy.
i cant reply im too shy
Yes
Ironic innit
I found this song very beautiful by itself, invites you to abandon your shyness for not lose the oportunity to do the things you like, in example for me, I can say that I am shy too, and this song motivated me to start my first romantic relationship with a girl.
💃🔥
Rest in Peace, Andy Rourke. (1964🌻2023) The Smiths' distinct sound wouldn't have been possible without your brilliant bass. Thank you for giving the world such beautiful music.

As a shy person I used to think, when I was young, that adulthood would magically cure me. At 58 I am still shy and find human interaction really painful at times. I used to play this in my room and sing it as an affirmation. It felt good to know that I was not the only person who struggled
Me too! This song gave me hope. Turns out I’m Autistic! When I’m comfortable and safe I am very talkative.
Shyness was CRUSHED outta me in my 20s the real world blew it UP 🤷🏼♂️
Me too, always struggles. This song sang to my heart. Nowadays at 50 I am happy to be alone with my cat most of the time and do the things I really love in my own relaxed way : D Turns out that also then for me there is enough human contact happening, but without the efforts. And @crowseagull: We are all kind of autistic by the childhood-vaccinations. Look up what is in them ! Apart from other strange and toxic substances: Aluminium in high doses ! Remember what is said about aluminium and effects on the brain ? So why put it in 'vaccines' for babies and young children in high doses ??? I can meanwhile think of some reasons. Maybe the same reasons that DDT was promoted sooo safe and effective ? : / Anyway... detox from metals can help and it can also help realising that most of these 'popular' people are mostly shalow and not interesting anyway : ) hh
This is because the world is full of idiots and egos

I'm in love with the recurring "shaking a bunch of long stemmed flowers" aesthetic of The Smiths videos
Or sticking them down the back of your trousers!

Gladioli.
I listened to this song on Feb. 2, 1989, then made an agitated phone call to ask out the girl who had borrowed my coat the day before. Looking back, I don't think that agitated bravado is much preferrable to shyness. All the same, she said, yes, and here we are, happily married 33 years later-- despite a few bombs along the way!
To think that only a few months later, the Berlin Wall came down. Apparently some things in the known universe are connected in mysterious ways...

Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique artists such as the Smiths and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere. What would our lives have been without British bands? Thank you from Sicily.
@@nicewayaround Thats not important, music counts.
I love to read posts like this as us Brits...I don't know what we have compared to the rest of the world, but there is just something in our culture and life that makes people like Moz, Marr, Joyce and Rourke. It's like you just couldn't expect to hear this music from any other English speaking people other than from the UK and England in particular.
@Drew Blue: are we keeping score now? Btw, list why those nations are "worse", please. I'm not saying they are (or aren't), but I'm sure other readers would like to read why you think they are.
@@richardenglish2195 Well let's start with the Spanish destruction of South American civilization shall we.
@Terry Egget: Yes, thank you, I'm aware of that. The point is, the post I was referring to seemed to suggest other countries have a much worse record for barbarism and bloodshed than the UK does, and I'd like to know how that statement can be qualified.
The Smiths is one of my mom's favorite bands and the fact that i love their songs too makes me so happy for some reason

Genius line. beautiful song.
@@LeathanL It's a quote from the Alan Bennett play, 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf? Me! ' Morrissey seems to have quoted a number of times, eg, 'Jumped up pantry boy who doesn't know his place' is a quote from the Anthony Shaffer play 'Sleuth'.
It's true many people can't read the language of nature anymore, they do it only to get some kind of distraction from their daily lifes, but they don't really understand what it meant to be in love with someone. I can't blame them some have bad memories from early relationships, some other are to buisy cause they need to work for their money or their goals, but it makes you unable to read between the lines of human relationships and at some point you lost yourself.

Saying this as a child of the '80s, yes, taking these lyrics to heart would indeed have saved a lot of heartache.
We loved the 80s, we loved the Smiths and we enjoyed their music, dancing, going to local new wave clubs and just enjoying life. Brings back a lot of amazing memories and still love this music now. It is interesting that a few years ago, my daughter played the Smiths in the car and was shocked to find out that I knew who they were and enjoyed their music way before she was born. I was shocked that she knew and liked them. It was great timeless and ageless experience.

"Spending warm summer days in doors,
Writing frightening verse to a buck-tooth girl in Luxembourg"
These are two of the best lines I have ever heard in a song.
What's the meaning behind the lines? I've only just found The Smiths and I love them, can't believe I only just discovered them. That line has been bugging me for days
Well, based on the fact that the song is about a relationship, I'd assume this how he spends his days, away from the outside world, and instead he's more concerned about writing to his girlfriend (who happens to be from Luxembourg). "Frightening Verse" is probably a referral to writing appallingly cheesy or over-romantic language, which other people might find ghastly or ridiculous.
That's what I see it as, but these are Morrissey's lyrics and he means 4 different things with whatever he writes. Which is partly why he is probably the best lyricist of all time.
It's taken me years to figure out some of Morrissey's conundrums but that's what I like about him
There is a theory that a million monkeys at a million typewriters could produce the complete works of Shakespeare but they couldn't write those lyrics!

The melody in the outro is awesome and you have to really listen to get it all.
