I fondly remember when I discovered THE SMITHS. It was Summer ‘06, and not a week (more like a day!) has gone by that their music isn’t playing in my car, or at home. Their music saved me, and changed my life for the better.
The truth is The Smith are are so good at what they do they almost steal they show from each other its overewhelming on some songs like this - who do you follow !
I love how cheerful the riff sound and the beginning and then a sudden scream of melancholy and desperation that contrast the general rythm of the song. Almost like when we pretend to be happy or content while we struggle inside.
You know, the combination of the uplifting melody and semi/depressed lyrics are like when you talk about your suicidal feelings and laugh histerically as you talk about it.
Listening to this, my final interview for my dream job in two days. And I’m in a foreign country singing along to this song in my hotel room. I’ve known misery for so long. Now I’m hopeful and filled with courage. Hope anyone reading this enjoy the rewards and fruits of the fight. The resilience. And the faith in yourself. Cheers.
This song has one of the most realistic, down to earth and authentic lyrics ever written which accurately portrays how we think and feel about everyday life situations, plus the guitar riff was great too! Very underrated song. Long live The Smiths!🙏🎸 ❤🏴

@MrScubajsb, I totally agree with you. It would be really cool to go back in time and feel this experience again. I miss those times when I had peace of mind and spirit. Nowadays, no one cares about anyone. True love has been fading away. This song is a true work of art. Peace, Health, Prosperity to you. 🇧🇷
Xavier Vera uh hello it's the Smith's most tragic band in history.. they sing about death and comas.. and the queen is dead and meat is Murder etc... all tragic topics..
You ever get the dilemma of being really into an older band or artist but can't be arsed trawling through all of their albums to find their better songs, but at the same time feel guilty that you only know their most popular songs?
Yes. I didn't get that though with the smiths bc they don't have a lot of albums. I usually just listen to the albums of the 80s and if I like em enough I just expand from there
+Jordan Wilson Yes, but The Smiths are worth going beyond their most popular songs. And they only have four albums (five if you include Louder Than Bombs because most of the songs on it aren't on the studio albums).
Stellar_Fungk Ofcourse they wouldn't have been. It's like Aerosmith without Joe Perry, The Beatles without Paul Mcartney. The lead singer can't make everything on his own. I don't know why Morrissey is an idiot though? (although I don't really like him).
Nora Bataityte great band overall for their time. Wildly influential. If Moz wouldn't have been such a prick about everything, they could have extended to the 90's but even so, their legacy for such a short period was great
Completely agreed, I kinda wish they could've extended into 90's and kinda not - this way their songs don't repeat themselves and are original. But if they were playing even now, I wouldn't miss a chance to see them, that would be amazing
after knowing the context for this song from his 1984 interview. It hits different knowing i also i had a very similar experience. reminds me alot of a horrible time in my life were we had to move & live in my aunt's place. there were other relatives also sharing the same household. some of the issues I've experienced was the lack of privacy, interpersonal conflicts, limited autonomy, financial strains & role conflict like having to look after someone else's child.. an unemployed muslim uncle who was mostly the man in charge of the house was the person i greatly despise being around with. he would often give me orders & get yelled at when I fail or not respond immediately to his commands. i hate how much he reminds me like my mother.. it seems like everywhere I go, no matter the family structure (nuclear, extended/joint or single parent) there's always seems to be neverending disputes or unresolved issues between other people. sometimes I wonder why couldn't we just all grow up & get along?
This song gives me a feeling of the end of a disco or a party when people have coupled up and gone home and the rest are drunk slow dancing on their own, and you're just sat on the side watching them.
I met this boy at school, and he was everything to me at one point . when your young I guess you think things will last forever, but he hurt me multiple times through out the relationship, the last time I say him we got into a small physical altercation but that was just enough for me to say I did not wanna go to his house again, then the song says “I would rather not go back to the old house” it just fit for me
He was actually making fun of the irony of a name like mercurial feminist and the association of such name with a current of feminism that seems to be overreacting of even the minor transgressions to their ideology
My mom passed away a month ago and I've been listening to the Smiths a lot, I dont even know why I'm commenting here. I dont even know what to do, but I like this music. The lyrics are pretty relatable.
Listening to The Smiths let's you know you're not alone, most people don't want to admit that they've been lonely or depressed when they say they don't like them.
Despite not growing up with the music of the 60/70/80s I’m constantly in awe whenever I listen to it. The Smiths are an amazing band. Morrissey’s lyrics and Marr’s guitar are fantastic
The two worst feelings in modern society are not having a job and having a job

That's what I'm doing on a cold wet day
Exactly what I'm doing right now! 🌧🌧
Once you listen to the smiths there is no going back, their music is basically an addiction
Ok then listen to 100gecs money machine and listen to it for 3 times straight
I couldn't agree with this statement any more, I started listening only a few weeks ago and now they are legit my favourite band
I've just went through their whole discography three times in a row now. And I want more!
Real talk
I fondly remember when I discovered THE SMITHS. It was Summer ‘06, and not a week (more like a day!) has gone by that their music isn’t playing in my car, or at home. Their music saved me, and changed my life for the better.
I love having a gut wrenching cry to this song
Can everyone just take a moment and appreciate the greatness of Andy Rourke and his bass playing. It really puts this song on a different level!
True.
Just checking this out for the fist time and thats my favorite part of the song.
He inspired me to start playing bass
The truth is The Smith are are so good at what they do they almost steal they show from each other its overewhelming on some songs like this - who do you follow !
Ikr! He was one of the people who inspired me to play bass
This is basically the anthem of the adult life
the *incel adult life
kek
@crab fuck Fag i can agree. incels are more in the autist spectrem
Dammit too
Incels doesn't listen to The Smiths, they listen to lots of anime song intros
BUBBLEGUM GUN get laid
I love how cheerful the riff sound and the beginning and then a sudden scream of melancholy and desperation that contrast the general rythm of the song.
Almost like when we pretend to be happy or content while we struggle inside.
'why do i smile at people who id rather kick in the eye'
That's the best way to describe Smith's music.
Music is my happi place.
It's so true. We fear that if we show our true feelings...we'll be ridiculed so put that happy facade on. It's exhausting sometimes.
Such juxtaposition
It's insane how much I am in love with this band
@@dr.juerdotitsgo5119p00p😊😊😊😊😊😊⁰⁰0😊⁰⁰⁰
it’s insane how much i’m inlove with u!(joke)
Morrissey’s voice is like magic. It’s so melodically satisfying
You know, the combination of the uplifting melody and semi/depressed lyrics are like when you talk about your suicidal feelings and laugh histerically as you talk about it.
Oh Brother.
OMG YES THIS
Lolll yes!
That's called life
Joker
"I was looking for a job and then I found a job, and Heaven knows I'm miserable now." Ha! Morrissey has a way with words.
So funny, but so true, it was for me in the 80's.
I want you to tell me he's wrong
Exactly how I feel. I can't wait to save up enough to travel and leave it. Then start my own business from a house. This job makes me so miserable
The two worst feelings in modern society are not having a job and having a job
@@Furufoo "In my life, oh why do I give valuable time, to people who don't care if I live or die" maybe not quite to that extreme but close!
Never listened to The Smiths until I heard this song randomly and it resonated with me completely.
Brand new fan.
Cheers.
Good luck internet dude on you interview tomorrow
Keep us updated
Thank you brother 🙏🏻 I needed to read that ❤️
did you get it?
It aint that deep dawg
his voice is so nice. I'd listen to him singing all day.
I agree
the voice is nice but the person isn’t
@@simon-di7xt Go cry some more commie.
@@simon-di7xt true
I hate his voice, but listen to some songs due to the lyrics and melody. He annoys the hell out of me.
The smiths songs were real, they spoke to real people’s hearts.
This song has one of the most realistic, down to earth and authentic lyrics ever written which accurately portrays how we think and feel about everyday life situations, plus the guitar riff was great too! Very underrated song. Long live The Smiths!🙏🎸 ❤🏴
RIP Andy Rourke, inspired me to pick up a Bass as a 14 year old, absolute legend, musical genius, icon. Thankyou.
Cool
"Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now"
I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour
But heaven knows I'm miserable now
I was looking for a job, and then I found a job
And heaven knows I'm miserable now
In my life
Why do I give valuable time
To people who don't care if I live or die
Two lovers entwined pass me by
And heaven knows I'm miserable now
I was looking for a job, and then I found a job
And heaven knows I'm miserable now
In my life
Why do I give valuable time
To people who don't care if I live or die
What she asked of me at the end of the day
Caligula would have blushed
"You've been in the house too long" she said
And I naturally fled
In my life
Why do I smile
At people who I'd much rather kick in the eye
I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour
But heaven knows I'm miserable now
"You've been in the house too long" she said
And I naturally fled
In my life
Why do I give valuable time
To people who don't care if I live or die

Dancing like Morrisey when nobody’s at home.

But he is doing it in front of all world
such an achievable goal !!!!
This song is so old yet so new and ready for the future the young generation love this music as well
his dance is the highlight of this video tbh
and his voice!
for me, the highlight is the plaid jacket combined with the dot patterned shirt that somehow... works
+patrick plus the branch in his back pocket brings the whole outfit together :p
His name is Morrissey you know.
Precisely ^
Take a moment to appreciate the wonderful bass line
Yeh the baseline s always 'sweet'
Honestly think, this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written!
Poetic
80s and 90s were just the best. Music, movies. Just everything. Wouldn't it be cool to go back in time and experience it again?
@MrScubajsb, I totally agree with you. It would be really cool to go back in time and feel this experience again. I miss those times when I had peace of mind and spirit. Nowadays, no one cares about anyone. True love has been fading away. This song is a true work of art. Peace, Health, Prosperity to you. 🇧🇷

The smiths proved that music can tell a story without having to rhyme every verse.
Yes, learnt well from Mark E Smith of The Fall...
@@realkeanureviews Always felt when listening to them that it was a conversation set to musical notes.
Yes, cos no Smiths songs ever rhythm, do they… twat
Your comment makes a lot of sense yo
Heaven knows I'm miserable now.. RIP Andy -- thank you for your beautiful bass lines. ❤🎸🎵
The Smiths' trademark pleasant, melodic music with downer lyrics: God , how I love it!
Yup. SO SARDONIC. Has everyone in this world lost their sense of irony? Seems so.
Me too ❤
a true melancholic masterpiece
This song is like dancing to your own tragedy. Like a madman laughing at the rain.
Xavier Verá jajajajajaja true
Xavier Vera 🖤
Ben Donnelly I think you may have misunderstood the comment...
Xavier Vera callate ridiculo
Xavier Vera uh hello it's the Smith's most tragic band in history.. they sing about death and comas.. and the queen is dead and meat is Murder etc... all tragic topics..
What a voice. Could listen to it for hours.
w roberts yep love it
w roberts i do.
You ever get the dilemma of being really into an older band or artist but can't be arsed trawling through all of their albums to find their better songs, but at the same time feel guilty that you only know their most popular songs?
Not with the Smiths but I do get that with The Kinks
+heroeofthepeople Listen to the albums The Wall, Wish You Were Here, Dark Side of The Moon and Animals. Listen to them start to finish.
***** names of what?
Johnny marr ladies and gentlemen one of the greatest guitarists ever! The chords and sounds he makes are just brilliant.
How can you not love The Smiths?
The Smiths is good, Morrissey is an idiot. I don't think The Smiths would have been that big without Johnny Marr's fantastic musicianship.
Stellar_Fungk Ofcourse they wouldn't have been. It's like Aerosmith without Joe Perry, The Beatles without Paul Mcartney. The lead singer can't make everything on his own. I don't know why Morrissey is an idiot though? (although I don't really like him).
***** umm wow, thanks for enlightening me haha, he sounds like such a douche!
R.I.P

after knowing the context for this song from his 1984 interview.
This gorgeous song resonates with me at 60 as it did at 23! It's truely timeless.
It's been that long?????? Wtf
😑 I'm 23 now ...u saying this feeling Gon stay til I'm 60 😂🔫

I’m 60 and likewise find this truly timeless.
This song gives me a feeling of the end of a disco or a party when people have coupled up and gone home and the rest are drunk slow dancing on their own, and you're just sat on the side watching them.

Caligula was Roman emperor known for being a sexual deviant and pretty much being insane, the lyrics is such a treat.
@@ayylmao8562 Thank you for explaining :)
I met this boy at school, and he was everything to me at one point . when your young I guess you think things will last forever, but he hurt me multiple times through out the relationship, the last time I say him we got into a small physical altercation but that was just enough for me to say I did not wanna go to his house again, then the song says “I would rather not go back to the old house” it just fit for me
😢 this sad is like my dad
how much taller does morrissey's quiff have to be before it becomes a separate member of the band
