I wore a white floor length full fringe shapeless dress on my birthday and a straight man said “why are you wearing a wedding dress” Best I’ve ever felt
Love dressing for the girls. I went to a concert and a boy in the group could not comprehend my vintage 4 inch orange flatform boots. Meanwhile random girls kept complimenting me all night. He was flabergasted. I felt great.
fr i was wearing my miniskirt, red tights and boots and girls kept on complimenting my outfit and makeup while men looked at me so weirdly but i felt so so great
@@nagisakobayashiAGHHH I love red tights soo much, everyone who wears them instantly looks cool in my opinion. I personally don't own any myself as I don't have the confidence as where I live everyone just wears tracksuits and their clothes are devoid of any colour and I already stand out enough as it is
so having style is being yourself, trying something bold and don't care about if it's ugly or other people will like it? i think this is the healthiest and most fun approach to fashion i've ever heard.
Yeah! At the end of the day, thats what true style is all about. It's easy to get distracted by brands trying to say whats trendy or in demand in order to sell you product, but once you look past all that you see style is really about the self. It's not about what brand your wearing, its about thoughtfully sharing your personality or mood with others. The best accessory anyone can wear is confidence.
I 100% agree with wearing things that are “not flattering” sometimes the best outfits are the ones that are baggy on baggy and swallow you in the fabrics or skin tight ones that hug every bit of cellulite. Fashion is a great way to make your insecurities beautiful
I agree with the baggy thing and I personally think having a "personal Item" is also a part of having style - like something you're wearing all the time through years
A silly accessory is so true. I live in a hot climate and one of my fav silly accessories is my lavender crochet beret. It does not block the sun, keep me warm or cool, it’s just there to be cute and serve.
i always wear a flower in my hair (i have really short curly hair) and i just match it with one item like earrings, shoes, scarf…i just really feel like it puts everything together and i just can’t leave the house without a lil flower
so many of these speak to confidence! i recently bought a pink frilly top that my whole family hates (they're nice about it lol) and the realisation that i really didn't care made me realise how i dress for myself now. my approach to clothes used to come from such a place of wanting to blend in and mask my insecurities. my happiness in an outfit is finally beating my anxiety about what other people might think. here's to making other people stop and think "that's weird" 🥰
one thing i’m super proud of is that i was one of the pioneers of platform docs like they were impossible to find anywhere when i got them and guess who was making fun of me when i first got them… straight men and that’s when i knew i had done it
That last thing is so true and it made me remember "men repeller" which was an online magazine found by Leandra Medine (not only) about fashion that ...repells men...so everything stylish or over the top :D
Laini! I just wanted to say that I really always appreciate your including examples not just of black women but dark skinned black women in a lot of your inspo pics you put in your vids. Specifically in this video with the black girl hairstyle. Just wanted to let you know your intention and attention to details in all your vids is so inspiring 🫶🏾
I genuinely believe that nothing is ugly! It's all about how it's styled!! And some people don't get it when I say that. Laini makes me feel so seen lol
A few days ago I wore a long white maxi dress, a white chunky turtle neck sweater, and lime green cowboy boots and a man told me I looked like a nun. Loved every second
this inspired me so much! for sooooo many videos like this, I feel like I'm "too fat" or "too midsized" for mentioned advices/points or they only suit/are "appropriate" for the skinny bodies, but your video I think gave me the confidence I needed to try out things I want
The last one reminds me of the original days of the manrepeller fashion blog before it was a whole site--the idea of fashion specifically repelling men (and the idea of being flattering) and how glorious that can be
Talking about straight men comments, i sure have a lottt to say. Once i was told by a guy that i wouldn't die if i get pushed off a cliff as i can spread my oversized clothes to fly. The very same set of clothes got me a "oh she's such a model" comment from an older female. Another instance where i got asked as to why i wore a blanket to work (it was a long warm coat), the ladies having lunch with the guy jumped in to say i looked stylish in it. Another one where my cousin brother asked me if I'd borrowed papa's clothes, my fashion-conscious cousin sister told me she owns very similar clothing to mine. 😂
Is it just me, or have women (in general) gotten less catty toward each other? When I was younger, girls were a LOT more ruthless and quick to put other women down for their appearance. Feels like maybe the whole "women empowering women" internet shit has actually kinda worked? Yes ik there's still mean girls around, but feels like it's not as popular to act like that (AKA "pick me" girls, "one of the guys" girl, "cool girl" described in Gone Girl, etc) OR could just be that I'm older and not an immature teen anymore LOL.
I always think that if someone take a double take when I walking down the street and look puzzle, when I can seriously see in their eyes that they questionning if my outfit is ''too much'' or ''does it go together'' I know I actually achieved my look! LOL
this summer i met a guy who dressed in all baggy clothes and wore stupid accessories. we don't talk anymore lmao but hes one of the most stylish guys ive ever met
Yes!! I love getting compliments from woman about my outfit over man. Makes me feel 1000% better about it and the choices I went with, even if I thought the choices were not “normal”🥰
i absolutely love our new approach to fashion. Anyone can wear anything they like as long as they are confident, comfortable and it expresses whatever it is the wearer wants to express. I just love that there are so many trends that everyone can pick and choose whatever fits them best.
love love this video Laini! and definitely understand the struggle of having to talk through an idea rather than thinking the audience get it, I'm so bad for having so much to say that nothing comes out in my videos 😂
Every time I come home to eat lunch and see you’ve added a video - you go Hey my name’s Laini, I smile and go, Hey Laini!! You feel my breaks with such joy and style!
One 60 y/o grandma from my orchestra has super big, wide rim, almost rounded square glasses and a short wavy bob with microbangs. I've always thought she was one of the most stylish people I know and I don't even remember her outfits.
Delighted I hit every style factor you described and I even double down on those factors. For example, I not only have jackets in a variety of colors, often the variety of colors appear in one jacket. Or I don't just wear a hat, I wear the largest hat anyone can imagine on my small frame. So, thank you for affirming me hard in this video. Also, it's funny about the straight male insults. I'd add that the insults usually comes from people without style and I always chalked it up to envy :D That's why dressing for oneself and your supportive homies is the best.
I have a funny story related to the straight man thing. I've always dressed more conservatively and in slightly looser-fitting clothes because that's just what I like, and in a conversation about style I once told my mom "I don't dress for The Male Gaze." she just paused and went, "well no shit you don't dress for gay guys!" 🤣 but yeah, other girls compliment me all the time. even on things like my tattoos and makeup that straight men NEVER remark on
LOL. Similar story here-- an ex-friend once said I was "too focused on the male gaze" and when I asked my parents if they agreed, they were like, "......She hates you because you think about gay guys too much?" Hahah. Once my parents understood what I meant, they said, "...But you dress in baggy clothes and have never been interested in dating..."
I’ve been made fun by a straight main for a look that 3 different girls complimented me on the same night! The guys are lost when it comes to style haha
