I thought it was something spiritual about them, even as a young (black) kid in the 70s, can remember being drawn to their music. Wow, these boys testifying of the Lord Jesus, in secular concert. All praises to the Master!!!!
No question - check out Michael McDonald’s Christmas albums/ music - two of my favorites, on my Top 10 are Peace & To Make a Miracle - Check them out!!!!! 🥰
Cornilius died a very wealthy man...he was healthy in spirit, and talent. What he had cant be bought at any price. I had the rare priveledge to play a gig with this man. It was an honor for me to be on the same stage with him even if only for one gig. God rest his soul. He is living in a place where his wealth really counts for something!!
this is real music. there is nothing like this anymore. I grew up with this type of music. wish I was old enough to enjoy it more back then. this is a real band.
I'm sure it's actually live audio, but yeah that's what blows me away with this too. It's not even in a stadium, this is a live, open-air concert in the early 80's and it sounds studio quality good. Either it's been really well dubbed or subtly remastered, or, the audio engineer who was there at the time was just that good. And the band being amazing too, of course.
Tiran Porter, Cornelius Bumpus, and Willie Weeks ain't no White Boys, but helped give them all INsight as well as SOUL. Bless them all, incredible musicians.
Well I must say his saxophone solo on this track is absolutely sublime... I mean really, really, really good. I hope he had a decent income and a shiny car.
My ultrawhite south Texas dad loved the Doobies (in 70's). He told me (his only daughter, 10 yrs behind 3 boys) that "Doobie" was like "Dobie" (Dobie Gillis) , ha! so it was great to love them. My first concert (Dad escorting of course) He also bought my first car (Shelby Mustang). All for DAd!! Love you Dad! (in Heaven where there are Doobies, Dobies, and Shelbys for everyone).
This version of "Jesus is Just Alright" is insane. @ 5:20, the reggae beat just blows my fucking mind! What a great show this must have been! I wasn't even born yet! ahhh!!!!
oh lord, the level of musicianship here. I almost forgot there was a day you had to be this good to get up front of that many people and perform. at least its here to be seen by the smartest young muso's to take a page out of this book and contemporize it.
Yeah . Living next to the bowl for the past 15 years , other than hearing my own son play her last fathers day ... I just have to tell everyone , what these legends not simply lend but GIVE to our Santa Barbara community and all the worlds ears that are tuned towards goodness . Blessed I am to enjoy such troubadours as locals .
saw 'em in Bakersfield just before they hit with "listen to the music" (way before Mcdonald). what a time. when a friend could drag you out to see a new band in a county fair livestock hall with a 10 foot high ceiling, and for 10 bucks you get your musical mind absolutely blown.
Ah, when music was music. The every man music of the Doobies still moves me after decades. I never listen to anything after 2000 anymore. Why bother? The older I get, the more I drift back to the music of the 70's
Oh please WHY isn't this concert available on DVD? The version of "Long Train Running" they played at this concert is the absolute best I have ever heard.
Jesus Is Lord, not "just allright".. Jesus is GOD in the flesh and YES Let's take HIM to the streets and see people saved, healed and delivered.Yes and Amen in Jesus
Jeannine Garton amen to that. what is amazing is that i used to sing (and dance also) to that sobg and HE always loved me till the day i came to now sing JESUS is LORD. He rejoices at the tender hearts these guys presented till the perfect moment!!! that is the beauty of Our God of Restoration!!!!
Its amazing to me the longevity of some of these bands, especially considering the wear and tear this lifestyle must bring. Check them out currently with Tom Johnston back at the helm (again), what an evolution! I would see this band 10 years later with family and friends in San Diego at Admiral Robinson open seating as a twin billing with Foreigner for $5!!!One of the greatest shows of my life, Long live the Doobies! Long live Rock N' Roll!!!
I love this video and thank you very much for posting it. On the other hand, I think you are confused about the difference between talant and commercial success. And Cornelius didnt die poor at all, I worked with him many times in the studio, fantastic guy with loads of talent.
It's incredible to listen to this song only two and a half weeks before Easter!! Its wonderful, this song, all year round, but it just also suits for Easter!! Christmas, as well; Good Friday,et cetera;et cetera!!
This live performance is superior to the studio/album version. The up tempo energy is extraordinary. It also confirms, in my estimation, that the three greatest blue eyed soul singers are Paul McCartney, Daryl Hall and of course, Michael McDonald. Plus Cornelius with his tremendous intro via tenor sax solo. Yippie!
@MrMusicmanny I dont know from which country you came from but back home in Manila when you say DOOBIE BROTHERS..........WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES is the next thing that comes out, although JESUS IS JUST ALRIGHT is my all time favorite.
I absolutely agree! The sound guy should have received a Grammy. McDonald is amazing. He can re-improvise variations to the melody every time he sings something, and every note is right on pitch. All while playing awesome and accurate piano chops. He makes it all look so easy! Just a another day in the park.
Great musicians . Something missing today.
I thought it was something spiritual about them, even as a young (black) kid in the 70s, can remember being drawn to their music. Wow, these boys testifying of the Lord Jesus, in secular concert. All praises to the Master!!!!
Kemery Wright yep! No color here, just talent and inspiration
Amen! Daz right...they have been my favorite group since 1971. The House Band in heaven..
Yep! I just LOVE THEM, STILL!
No question - check out Michael McDonald’s Christmas albums/ music - two of my favorites, on my Top 10 are Peace & To Make a Miracle - Check them out!!!!! 🥰
Amen 🙏
To the person who posted this video.....two words:
THANK YOU

"You don't know me but I'm your brother" I don't know why, but I love that lyric!
Because that lyric is full of compassion and love, it's a beautiful line...
It means so many different things. Especially these days.
Me too! Well put, succinct and touching!
Because it unites us, not divides...which is what they want
Hey bro I'm going to be 69 yrs young in two weeks still rocking HA 😂😂❤
Cornilius died a very wealthy man...he was healthy in spirit, and talent. What he had cant be bought at any price. I had the rare priveledge to play a gig with this man. +Luis Gomez they are still touring.... check em out..... they rock it out man...... I am 52... I never miss a show
Luis Gomez yep, no autotune here, just being real:)
Check out Waker!
THE AUDIO ENGINEER WAS GREAT ON THIS GIG..WELL DONE.
Thomas Cavallaro I cant tell if this is dubbed; if not, the audio has held up way better than the video.
You got rock, soul, a little jazz, and gospel from the Doobie Brothers 😇 😎
🙏
LOVE THIS! Cornelius Bumpus may you Rest In Peace Sweet Brother!
Yep I come back time after time to listen to the intro where he killed that double time lick
These guys killed it and did it giving props to Jesus !!!!
classic, don't make music like that today..Michael is flawless
Now this is what I call REAL music..........too bad neither the industry or the audience in general will take a band like this anymore..........
I will show up for this kind of music anytime❤
They took Church 2 da streets...I love me some Michael McDonald....
Not just takin it to the streets, they are kicking ass and taking names.
To me this is the best rendition of these guys. So much fun and precision. If you saw this live please comment on this day.
That my friends is why I miss the 20th century. Brilliant music that people cared for. Excellent, tight musicianship. Spark a spliff and groove.
NOW THIS IS A ROCK BAND PEOPLE
The audio on this is stellar... especially for 1982!
Tiran Porter, Cornelius Bumpus, and Willie Weeks ain't no White Boys, but helped give them all INsight as well as SOUL. Bless them all, incredible musicians.
Always in my mind visioned Michael Mcdonald doing Jesus is just Alright with them this video made my vision come true. So cool.
Well I must say his saxophone solo on this track is absolutely sublime... I mean really, really, really good. I hope he had a decent income and a shiny car.

Jesus Christ is my best friend protected during my wild days 😮
Ah, when music was music. The every man music of the Doobies still moves me after decades. I never listen to anything after 2000 anymore. Why bother? The older I get, the more I drift back to the music of the 70's
The bass intro gives me the goosebumps
