Man, Peter went through so much crap in this movie and i never realized it when i was younger and watched this. He had to pay rent for his own home, worry about aunt may's well being, get to school on time while trying to get to a pizza job on time at the same time as taking pictures for the daily bugle, not to mention he has to juggle all of this WHILE BEING CRIME-FIGHTER SPIDERMAN. Then his friend keeps bragging about spider man "murdering" his dad, and the love of his life is stolen by the son of his boss at the bugle who always gives peter a hard time trying to persuade him to try and badmouth spider-man. NO WONDER peter lost his powers momentarily in this movie
I can actually sort of relate with peter, here. The love of his life being taken by someone else, while there's also still a bunch of shit going on around him that is hurting him even more. Peter feels like me, in a way.
Peter did not become a villain because he knows that everything bad that happened to him in the film was because of his own actions as Spiderman. Villains mostly become evil due to actions happening to them. Arthur Fleck in Joker for example became evil due to the cruel society he lived in and his laughing condition was out of his control as well. Also Arthur Fleck, like Peter, got fired from his job, however Fleck got fired because his friend gave him a gun to protect himself and lied on him. Peter, on the other hand, got fired because he chose to be the hero, Spiderman, and save the kids from getting hit by the truck. Also he was raised by the loving couple, Ben and May Parker, who taught him right from wrong as opposed to Arthur Fleck being raised by a mentally ill mother in a terrible apartment. Peter would not become a villain because he was raised right and he knows that all of this is because of his personal choice to be the hero, Spiderman.
From 4:00 this is pure Cinema I mean Cinema at his very best. You just been humiliated in front of the crowd by your own best friend, and you can do nothing and then to finish you off, the guy of your crush announce in front of everyone that they will be married. The spidey theme starting at this moment add some drama. What a scene, wow, the acting from Tobey is so class. I recognise myself so much in Peter Parker, fav movie of all time 🙌🏽
Luckily Peter didn’t turned into a villain in this situation where most villains do. Imagine you have super powers and no body knows it and people treats you without respect.
Like the green goblin and the joker said in spite of everything you,ve done for them eventulaly they will hate you. Joker saying all it takes is one bad day and you cant count on anyone anymore you always have to do everything yourself these days. Harvey dent saying you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain. The villains were right about everything they said and it comes to show you people are the real monsters.
4:46 man peters face. i just get feel the level of just pain in him. the absolute stunned reaction and the spider man theme starting to play.. probably the most heartbreaking scene in this movie at least in my opinion
The Spider-Man theme starting playing, yeah. It was basically adding insult to injury. It's af it was grimly symbolizing how much becoming Spider-Man has costed Peter everything and everyone.
This is scene is so beautiful and shows the pain and struggle of being a Spiderman . Mj hates Peter because Peter is never there for her when she needs him ( unbeknownst to her he is litreally risking his life being spiderman and the reason he can't tell her is beacause he doesn't want her life in risk as well ), Harry hates Peter because he is supporting spiderman instead his best friend ( even though Peter is just keeping his promise to Norman , who said not to tell his son anything ) . Also the guy MJ marries is successful and well liked and someone Peter can be if he wasn't busy giving up his life goals to save people . This is struggle , this is how you make actual emotional struggle in a movie . The physical fight scenes in the Rami trilogy wre awesome but these moments where Peter struggles with emotional pain of taking up the responsibility of being spiderman and dealing with the consequences of his actions is what makes these movies so great .
How many fucking times I have to tell them idiots? your father died impaled by his glider he's been lying to you , Harry. and Peter can't assist you Mj because as he told you Spider-Man will always have enemies.
- Pushed around by his hard boss - Rejected by his long time love - Slapped and disowned by his best friend - Finding out his true love is marrying someone else and being forced to snap the photo of it - *And not getting any refreshments* Talk about a rough night for Peter :(
Man watching this as an adult now I understand it even more. We’ve all been through tough experiences one after the other in an instant and can deeply relate to Peter here
I watched this movie a lot when I was little and I really never understood how relationships worked and why they were so complicated between Peter and MJ. I was too young to know about that stuff but now that I’m older I understand what its like
This is one of the more deliciously sadistic sequences in the film. The way he actively attempts to grab a drink or a treat but someone always beats him to it is so heartbreaking because it perfectly epitomizes his sincere but futile attempts to set his personal life straight throughout this movie.
@nor-wood I think if he resorted to being Spider-Man only, he'd be even more miserable and the film wouldn't be worth watching. Spider-Man is a spandex suit armed with a set of (somewhat boring) moral principles. It is Peter Parker who breathes life into it. His personal struggles and emotional experiences are much more complex and intriguing than Spider-Man's unchanging battle against evil. If he collapsed his personality to being Spider-Man only, he'd lose a much more essential part of himself. Idk, maybe that's an interpretation based on my own 'millennial' work ethic, according to which you don't have to be what you do professionally. You are allowed to have a sophisticated personality outside work.
@@fezzy5591 honestly I have no idea why I typed that🤣, I don’t usually take personal shots unless it’s earned. Must’ve been in my Bully Maguire Phase I guess... sorry bout that.
What a humiliating bad night it was for poor Peter, rude people grabbing all the fizz and grub before he can, rejected by MJ for not turning up to her play because he’s Spider-Man, slapped in the face twice by a drunken Harry in front of everyone, witnessing MJ getting engaged to John Jameson, forced by Jameson to take a photo, then losing his powers when he had a breakdown. _Spider-Man 2_ is indeed the best Marvel film of all time and I grew up with the original trilogy. The MCU has never matched of what the original Spider-Man trilogy had in terms of its magic and quality.
This was one of the best executed scenes of all Spider-Man movies. It shows that even as a superhero, Peter is not all powerful, and doesn't have total control over all aspects of his life. Losing the woman he loves. Losing his best friend. Losing it all. Add the loss of his supernatural abilities, and he truly has lost it all in one evening.
This film is Tobey’s greatest performance ever he really gives us that feel of a hero having such a challenging life and struggling to deal with it all
This scene is incredible. I felt like Peter the other day seeing my crush out w another dude. I had just worked up the courage to talk w her, and when I saw her w another dude, I balled. Can’t even imagine how it’d feel if it was someone I was closer w like Pete and Mj. The scene is so powerful. Gave me goosebumps
• Can't get a drink • Your Girl stolen by Your Boss's Son • Your Boss yelling at you to take pictures of his son • Scolded & Slapped by your best friend and Getting Yelled by Your Boss What a Life
I relate to this situation in a way. I remember it was high school I was in year 12. There was this girl she was my best friend we were close. But I had fallen for her big time she didn't feel the same way tho. I hid it from her best I could I didn't want her to feel bad or anything. Ball night came for our school. I made the brave foolish move to ask her to the ball. I was fine in the beggining but a lot started to kick in for me mentally. Social awkwardness Anxiety Depression and my feelings for her. Was difficult to watch her dance with somebody else. Rest of the night I distanced myself from everybody didn't want to bother anyone or let anybody see my pain. I felt like a fool and I felt weak that I allowed this to happen to myself. It's funny I actually thought of this scene when all this was happening. It felt like a movie scene. You know when it zooms in on the main character's face and you just feel the emotion from them. Honestly if I had Spider-Man's powers I would've left that ball night and gone out for a swing 😂 When the night was over I went home and just broke down. I was so upset and so angry at myself. But there was someone there to comfort me. My long distance best friend. She really lifted my spirits and listened to me just let out all of my feelings. I owe her a great deal for helping me that night. I got over my feelings for her and we're still best friends to this day. It was a painful experience but I'm stronger now and don't look back at the past. Love this movie so much. Spider-Man was my childhood hero. He showed me to good to others and to always fight the good fight. And that with great power comes great responsibility ❤
She a gold digger, norman osbourne was right about her in the first movie (when he and harry were having a conversation fight in the Thanksgiving scene)
To recap: got rejected by the love of his life, got publicly bitchslapped by his best friend in a drunk rage, never got anything to drink or eat (and tried to drink from an empty glass), had to hear the love of his life proposing to another, more preferable guy, and to top it all off, his boss calls him to shoot a picture of the engaged couple. Dang it, what a night...
Tobey playing Peter Parker was so good at playing a shy and emotional Peter Parker who is trying to win Mary Janes heart . And Harry seeking revenge on Spider-Man
Holy smoke, this has to be the worst evening Peter has ever weathered. Lost the love of his life. Lost his friend. His powers were fluttering. In one night, Peter pretty much lost everything.
And then MJ gets jealous and also gets slapped by Peter Parker after dancing with Gwen in the 3rd part jazz scene. Well that was satisfying to watch after all that frustration he had with MJ and his life lol!!!
MJ was completely undeserving of Peter's slap there as Peter was undeserving of Harry's slap here. And him slapping MJ was part of a revenge act out his own pride when here MJ was simply trying to move on from her heartbreak of Peter not being available for her. These two situations aren't even remotely equal, so don't treat them like they are.
@@g.Raider Peter hit MJ on accident when he got into a brawl with the bouncers and she stepped in to break it up and he accidentally hit her whereas Harry was drunk and slapped Peter out of spite.
Imagine getting slapped by your best friend and then (5 seconds later) finding out the love of your life is getting married to a football playing astronaut.
The moment you realize that the only reason MJ agrees to marry a man she dosent love and spend the rest of her life with its because she's mad at Peter for not going to her play. And I thought my girl exagerated when she got all mad when I didnt answer her dm's.
I see it in another way. MJ feels that by not having Peter she is alone. At the end of Spiderman 1 she confesses that she loves him, when he does not go to her play she does not feel supported and at the end of the party she tells him that everyone is going to support her except him, not counting to Harry bc he was her boyfriend and now friend . So let's get in her position she's in the big city with nobody else than the astronaut but she longs to be with Peter
@@austinjohnsen4430right Peter should have made his move a long time ago before she got engaged to another man in the first place but he wanted her safe at the same time.
Even if he confronts challenges and makes mistakes, Peter Parker is very strong and mature. He had a loving aunt and uncle that raised him to stay on a straight arrow. Mary Jane and Harry Osborn, while good people at heart, are tormented by the dysfunctional households they grew up in. Just goes to show you how much your household informs your character.
This scene still hurts. The woman he loves almost wants nothing to do with him anymore, his best friends hates him now and slaps him in front of a crowded area, the aforementioned woman he loves is getting married to a spaceman people will automatically prefer her with and then his biased boss tells him to photograph the moment he detests the most. And that’s not even talking about him starting to lose his powers and the man he admires (Doc Ock) is now a bad guy causing harm, might as well call this movie Misery.
I feel bad for peter , considering his past life he didn't have parents growing up , his grandfather died due to his need for money , he's living on a day to day paycheck , he's only a tenant , he's studying to become something bigger than he already is , and on top of that he's Spiderman , and to get this in the end , it's kind of heartbreaking and soul-consuming

The man was dealing with college, jobs, and everything else in his life (even dealing with the death of his uncle). Was she there at all for Peter when he was going through his storm? Hell no.
I think it’s more than just the play. I think she’s just upset that the chances of her and Peter getting together are slipping. Harry did say to Peter at the beginning of the movie she’s waiting for you pal. Like wow, holding out hope that the guy that friendzoned you will change his mind for two years? That’s something.
It’s literally addressed in the film that Peter keeps flaking on her and not coming through. He even friendzoned her at the end of Spider-Man 1 when MJ professed her love to him. She comes from a broken home and has issues and a life of her own.
So let’s just recount; he couldn’t get any food or a drink, he best friend insults and ridicules and slaps him, the women he loves most rejects him and says he means nothing to her, and then watches her get engaged in front of him. Damn
This part in the movie is what made Peter lose his powers for a longtime period, he lost his chance at ever being with MJ, humiliated by his best friend in front of everyone, MJ bringing him down by telling him he’ll always be an empty seat to her.
The downfall of Spidey, begins with Harry, his own best friend, started to hurt him in public in front of all people, his childhood crush is agreed to marry other guy and his douche boss told him to take a picture of Peter's crush and her new fiancée, who's also Peter's boss son.

Watching Peter in this scene makes me feel very sad. He still feels like an outcast even in public.
Sam Raimi's MJ's personality: toxic, selfish, uncaring, unsupporting and useless
Marc Webb's Gwen Stacy's personality: incomprehensive, stubborn, useful, helpful and supporting
MCU'S MJ's personality: helpful, adventurous, badass, brave, caring, supporting, helpful and risk-taking
@@yulenherraizrodriguez8123 ikr, the old MJ is just a plain damsel in distress, and has no interesting personality whatsoever. Especially in Spider-Man 2.
I couldn’t agree with you more😥
It's good to see how hard Jonah's clapping next to everyone around him - for all his flaws he truly loves and is proud of his son

We all feel like that
Which goes to show, anyone can wear the mask.
That's why Tobey is best Spidey
Hope you are better now

Sam Raimi's MJ should learn from MCU's MJ
after seeing all the shit that happens to peter in this movie it’s a miracle how he didn’t turn to become a villian💀
Bully Maguire
If this was Spider Man 3… he would’ve gotten the Black suit after this scene
I cry at this scene. Perfectly draw my high school love story.
I recognise myself so much in Peter Parker, fav movie of all time 🙌🏽
When that music starts to fade in at 4:40 I get goosebumps all over, the soundtrack is unreal.
Juice Mamoose yeah. Damn true. Every time. I love this scene and bgm.
Danny Elfman, who also did Batman’s 1989 and 1992 score did it. He’s amazing
Unfortunately it didn't continue!
Luckily Peter didn’t turned into a villain in this situation where most villains do. Imagine you have super powers and no body knows it and people treats you without respect.
Saved that for the 3rd one
@@abubakarsheikh5268 Having great perseverance and patience.
Been there, it’s where your heart sinks to your stomach and now you’re just trying to catch your breath
😢
How many fucking times I have to tell them idiots?
your father died impaled by his glider he's been lying to you , Harry.
and Peter can't assist you Mj because as he told you Spider-Man will always have enemies.
- Pushed around by his hard boss
- Rejected by his long time love
- Slapped and disowned by his best friend
- Finding out his true love is marrying someone else and being forced to snap the photo of it

Talk about a rough night for Peter :(
No wonder why he went dark side in the third film with the symbiote.
Peter is not rejected
i know how that feels like but I also had existencial crisis stuff but you need to man up to face hard moments
Legend has it that J. Jonah Jameson is still yelling "Parker!"
00:53 Jameson totally bails Parker out without realizing it.
And then JJJJ saves him from the awkward scene with Harry when everyone's staring.
I never saw it that way
This is why Spiderman 2 is the best movie ever
Man watching this as an adult now I understand it even more. We’ve all been through tough experiences one after the other in an instant and can deeply relate to Peter here

This is one of the more deliciously sadistic sequences in the film. The way he actively attempts to grab a drink or a treat but someone always beats him to it is so heartbreaking because it perfectly epitomizes his sincere but futile attempts to set his personal life straight throughout this movie.
Sadistic, you got that right. Raimi is a "scumbag"-saying hotshot and also codeless asshole who loves "Friends." The 3 movies sucked.
Why am I Peter Parker in this scene
Ezra Wood probably cuz you're a loser like the Tobey Peter Parker.

This has to be the most relatable scenes between someone’s friendship and love relationship between a girl

Peter: I'm gonna put some dirt in your eye
This was one of the best executed scenes of all Spider-Man movies. It shows that even as a superhero, Peter is not all powerful, and doesn't have total control over all aspects of his life. Losing the woman he loves. Losing his best friend. Losing it all. Add the loss of his supernatural abilities, and he truly has lost it all in one evening.
Man was taking L’s all night
This film is Tobey’s greatest performance ever he really gives us that feel of a hero having such a challenging life and struggling to deal with it all
I can feel Peter Parker's pain

This scene is incredible. I felt like Peter the other day seeing my crush out w another dude. I had just worked up the courage to talk w her, and when I saw her w another dude, I balled. Can’t even imagine how it’d feel if it was someone I was closer w like Pete and Mj. The scene is so powerful. Gave me goosebumps
Goes from trying to apologize to MJ to trying to wo her with poetry. Good call there, Peter.
the thing that irritated me the most was that he never got to eat any of the food
Peter is given so much shit in this scene and yet manages to remain level headed, I wouldn’t be able to handle all that coming at me.

JK Simmons should’ve gotten something for playing J Jonah Jameson. It doesn’t have to be an Oscar but he should’ve gotten something
Absolutely. Robert Downey Jr. is great, but Simmons was the best actor to portray a Marvel character.
Social awkwardness
Anxiety
Depression and my feelings for her.
Honestly if I had Spider-Man's powers I would've left that ball night and gone out for a swing 😂
When the night was over I went home and just broke down.

Yes
Ehh Peter led her on
She a gold digger, norman osbourne was right about her in the first movie (when he and harry were having a conversation fight in the Thanksgiving scene)
Peter @ 1:59: "What the heck does that guy have that I don't?!?"
Money
Otherworldly vampiric abilities
Tobey playing Peter Parker was so good at playing a shy and emotional Peter Parker who is trying to win Mary Janes heart . And Harry seeking revenge on Spider-Man
He should have played air guitar as apposed to reading poetry. That would have gotten MJ back for sure.
Peter is the real Bad luck Brian
Spider-Man 2 surely hits hard when you're an adult.
It was just one show he missed, can you just be nice to him and nice enough to give him another.
This is the best example to the big meaning for the bad luck most welcome
What’s interesting about this scene is that it’s so realistic, phenomenas such as this happens to a lot of us
Imagine getting slapped by your best friend and then (5 seconds later) finding out the love of your life is getting married to a football playing astronaut.
@@carsh5218 Peter chose to reject M.J. for her own safety.
I think it’s because she’s done waiting for Peter as Harry said she was.
I almost cried watching peter deal with this
I feel bad for peter , considering his past life he didn't have parents growing up , his grandfather died due to his need for money , he's living on a day to day paycheck , he's only a tenant , he's studying to become something bigger than he already is , and on top of that he's Spiderman , and to get this in the end , it's kind of heartbreaking and soul-consuming
I think you mean his uncle
man how is he even alive after all humiliation and suffering?
You can't make this stuff up....bad days go exactly like this, somehow everyone lives around you are perfectly lined up to make you have consistently awful things happen.
