The brilliance of it is that Peter isn’t really making a wrong decision here. He is right when he says that he can’t spend his life living another person’s dream. Which is why the rest of the movie is about him finding HIS OWN reason for wanting to be Spider-Man. The old Spidey, the one driven by pain and guilt, is indeed “no more”, never to be seen again. When Peter chooses to don the suit again, his decision is not driven by self loathing, it is driven by love.
This is the best Spidey version in my opinion. He's brilliant but broke, troubled relationships and villains trying to make his life even more miserable..
When this first came out when I was 5, I didn’t understand why he lost his powers I thought he ran out of webs but as a 22 year old man, I started to relate to this movie a lot especially the character that is Peter from the comics to this movie. Physical health is important but if what’s up there isn’t functioning well, the rest that is physical won’t do well, he was clearly depressed/anxious from the things happening all around him, from losing his best-friend due to Spider-Man, losing the love of his life because of Spider-Man and the fear of endangering the ones he loves because of Spider-Man, the character that is Peter Parker was, in my opinion, portrayed well in this movie. One thing I’ve learned from Spider-Man especially this movie is that life is all about choices and sometimes we’ll have to let go of what made us comfortable, safe or feel good in order to grow.

Who would have thought that one of the best version of Spider-Man, who is usually known for his jokes and comedic tone, is a version that’s a lot more serious than any that have hit cinema.
Cliff Robertson was such a good Uncle Ben. I really miss him. I also miss Tobey as Spider-Man. I really hope he’s in No Way Home, it’ll be like reliving childhood.
He was burnt out and being Spiderman was taking more than it was giving. He didn't have a friend or ally in the world because he feared if they knew who he was, it would endanger them. He did all be could to be a hero and use his power responsibly. Result? Late to work so not much pay, behind on rent and not much to eat. Always late or missing dates, lost his girlfriend. His friends don't even know who he is anymore. And the newspapers smeared him as a villain. He broke at this point. And he probably lasted longer than I would have.
This is what Peter-Two meant by existential crisis, and the other Peters don’t even realize how mentally and emotionally challenging it was for him. They just heard it but Tobey’s Peter still said it so casually to keep their heads up.
As kids, we saw Spider-Man running out of webs. But as adults, we see a man going through an existential crisis. Spider-Man didn’t “lose” his powers; they were always there but the reason why they weren’t working is because Peter’s mental wellbeing wasn’t there. He was tired of being Spider-Man, he was falling behind in school, and the love of his life was marrying another man. The lesson here is that living a double-life isn’t healthy. You have to make a choice; we always have a choice. In the end, Peter learned to accept that he was Spider-Man. ❤
What's really deep is that Peter took this as a way of seeing "i don't have to be spiderman" thus he lost his powers but when he needed to save MJ he told himself "I need to be spiderman to save her" it was a self actualization that made him think past thinking what he can or can't do
this is why being a hero is difficult, almost a curse. for a greater good, to protect the people you care about and love, you have to sacrifice everything about yourself
One of the only times I've ever been upset in a film is the part where Uncle Ben shows up. He reminds me of my grandad so much I think that's what gets me
Dang I remember being 7 years old I loved this movie because of the action. This is still one of my favorite movies because of powerful emotional scenes like this. Spider-Man 2>All current superhero movies.
No matter how spectacular the movements are, or how novel Holland's suit is, the true essence of spiderman is to give the best of himself, living a second life
Peter lost everything that was important to him. He lost his powers, Harry was not his friend anymore, and his girlfriend got engaged to another man. So now, Peter has nothing: no powers, no responsibility, no friendship, and no love.
My head cannon for the doctor scene is that he knew Peter was Spider-Man after telling him, but played along with the "dream" excuse so that he wouldn't add anymore stress to Peter's life.
Danny Elfman’s music for this was absolutely robbed of an Oscar nomination. I would also argue Spider-Man 2 should have been nominated for Best Picture. All these years later & it’s hard to believe this wasn’t considered a top 5 movie of 2004.
@@thefilmwatcher1302 ? This scene is better than anything spider-man related until spider verse dropped with that iconic ass miles scene. Far from home had a couple of good scenes but nothing this emotionally impactful.

TOBEY IS AND WILL BE THE BEST SPIDERMAN ❤
This is why Garfield and Holland will never be as good as Tobey.
Tobey Maguire Will Always And Forever Be The Best Spider-Man.
The part when he talks to uncle Ben and throws away his suit, always gives me goosebumps
He was just a broken hero...
❤❤
I never reliased heart breaking this scene was until now...
This is so sad!
This was best Spider man movie ever. Old Spider man movies are better than new Spider man movies
I feel the opposite but to each their own
I have 23 old and keep crying for this epic scene
What's really deep is that Peter took this as a way of seeing "i don't have to be spiderman" thus he lost his powers but when he needed to save MJ he told himself "I need to be spiderman to save her" it was a self actualization that made him think past thinking what he can or can't do
I dont get how this is so old but so inspiring
I'm not one to obsess over comic book accuracy but I kinda like that they did this.
3:30 one of the greatest shots in superhero movie history
Whats funny is how he goes to a check up doctor and gets better advice than an actual therapist
Thats why he is the goat! The goat!!
Best spider man
RIP John Romita Sr
R.I.P Cliff Robertson you were the best uncle Ben and always will be.
2:55 his shadow looks like Abe Lincoln
Ya wtf 😂
I feel like even if Peter said he was Spider-Man to his doctor, he would need to keep it confidential.
3:17 when marvel fire's tobey and his iconic suit
this is why being a hero is difficult, almost a curse. for a greater good, to protect the people you care about and love, you have to sacrifice everything about yourself
3:12 most saddest scene in all superhero movies 😢
Ben Parker is like a father figure to Peter 😭
No matter how spectacular the movements are, or how novel Holland's suit is, the true essence of spiderman is to give the best of himself, living a second life
Peter lost everything that was important to him. He lost his powers, Harry was not his friend anymore, and his girlfriend got engaged to another man. So now, Peter has nothing: no powers, no responsibility, no friendship, and no love.
0:07 My doctor to me fr
BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME
best scene in the whole series with how emotional it is
My head cannon for the doctor scene is that he knew Peter was Spider-Man after telling him, but played along with the "dream" excuse so that he wouldn't add anymore stress to Peter's life.
The doctor definitely knew Peter was Spider-Man. He gave him a full physical and everything, definitely saw a few things off with his body.
Thank goodness for doctor patient confidentiality
“I’m spiderman… no more… no more.”
3:14 I’m sorry Peter 😢
Sam Raimi is definitely an artist with this movie.
If only I knew what pure cinema I was watching as an 11 year old.
This movie makes way more sense when you’re an adult
One of the deepest and emotional scenes in the film.
Danny Elfman’s music for this was absolutely robbed of an Oscar nomination. I would also argue Spider-Man 2 should have been nominated for Best Picture. All these years later & it’s hard to believe this wasn’t considered a top 5 movie of 2004.
Dude forreal. This easily is a top 3 Superhero film ever
@@m1r__
Top 1
The movie should have been nominated for best adapted screenplay or best cinematography for bill pope
2:43 the way, he said Spider-Man no more is so chilling.
Why can't I remember watching this?
This is one of tthe most relatable, down to earth films I've ever seen and the main character has spider powers.
Man the heartbreak on tobey's face and uncle Ben's is just AGG
2:59 me on giving up cypto after having lost my money
Oddly specific you okay fam
A blessing in disguise. You prob would have been rekked beyond belief yesterday lol
@@MrDoughboy498 yea i realised i quitted on the right time
Peters Doctor seems like a nice person.
He put his suit in the trash instead of burning it because he wanted the whole city to know that Spider-Man was gone.
The doctor must definitely know peter is spider man after reading the news paper the next day
Imagine if mcu spiderman threw out the suit Tony gave him
Stark: YOU THREW OUT A MULTI MILLION DOLLAR SUIT?!
😳😳😳
Tobey Maguire: YOU KEEP YOUR (BEEP) VOICE DOWN! THIS IS IT! Punch 🤜🏻 (PUNCH HIS PRIVATE)
Peter: I missed the part where that's my problem.
You mean Iron Boy
@@TheLatiosnlatias02 That's gotten old.
This scene alone swallows the entire MCU spiderman
This scene alone swallows anything Spider-Man since Spider-Verse imo.
@@snoozegod8965 So…Far From Home? Spider-Verse is the second latest Spider-Man movie.
@@thefilmwatcher1302 ? This scene is better than anything spider-man related until spider verse dropped with that iconic ass miles scene. Far from home had a couple of good scenes but nothing this emotionally impactful.
@@snoozegod8965 I still like this more than no way home
This movie is so good🙂.
Spider-Man 1: "Amazing Fantasy #15"
Spider-Man 2: "Spider-Man No more"
Spider-Man 3: "Secret Wars"
I'd say Spider-Man 3 is based on the Alien Costume Saga, the follow-up to Secret Wars, but yeah. It was Secret Wars that introduced the symbiote suit, so it makes sense.
Fun Fact: This part is based of comic book number 50 entitled Spider-Man No More!
In the comic, Peter quits being Spider-Man because he has lost respect from citizens, family, friends, and uniformed.
The saddest part was green goblin warned him of this exactly
3:14when it's time for u to give up gaming and be a family man .... 💔
Thats when we all grow up...leaving games behind
Imagine if Doctors were actually this friendly 🤣
Yeah most don't give a shit and just had you some pills
@@chrisklitou7573 That's not true. I've seen alot of Doctors that care for their patients, it seems that they don't care and hand you pills but it's cuz there's so much work to be done behind the scenes of a clinic. There's so much paperwork to be done after each patient they see plus patients pile up too. I thought the same way as you did until I went to my Med school rotation
Here NY doctors are actually chill and care. As a kid and adult whenever I complained about something they would run a bunch of tests to figure out wha tit was(even if it was minor) and they're super friendly.
I’ve had doctors that were friendlier than this and actually gave a shit
Fr my doctor would’ve just told me to rest and take Tylenol 💀
That doctor knows he's Spider-Man.
