When I turned in my first GTI lease for my second GTI, after putting about 20ish track days per year over 3 years on that thing, it had 3 melted caliper dust boots, 4 worn comp tires, something kept clicking on power at low speeds from the left front when turning, front rotors were crazed, the front left rotor’s red pint had burnt off when I accidentally used the wrong pads on track... man I just don’t think I would buy a used GTI knowing how myself and my peers drive these things. And I maintain it!

I bought my '16 (S) a little over a year ago. It's been a fantastic car! I did have a wheel bearing go out shortly after buying it, and it had ~20k miles on it, but that's been my only issue. EPC once, but it cleared on it's own and the dealership didn't find a fault 🤷♂️ Bought it at carmax, but I've been taking it to Leith in N. Raleigh for service.
On the point of the thermostat/water pump note. What usually happens under warranty is that we authorized to only replace just the thermostat housing and not the water pump and when you remove and install the new thermostat 3/10 times the water pump will also leak coolant
My mk7 gti has been through two minor accidents, both were to the drivers side. Airbags never deployed but on both accidents I had the drivers side door replaced and paint and blending done. I pretty much am not going to try selling it because of them. Mechanically ive had tons of reliability issues so I feel like my gti is cursed.

I purchased a CPO 2015 Mk7 Tdi with 20k miles from a VW dealer in NJ. When doing my first air filter change at 30k miles I noticed what appeared to be a mouse nest under the grate in the air box. Is oil contamination in the coolant a common problem in the MK7? Every one of the 4 Audi B5/B6 platform cars we have owned has developed an internal leak in the oil cooler, leading to crud in the coolant overflow tank.
My water pump leak was one day it was low without noticing anything and the same day it was leaking a litre every day and a half. No heads up out anything I drive it every day
You noted the small amount of oil by the oil cap. Is this something easily fixed with a new cap? Also, could this account for loss of oil over time? If so, how much over a given period of time.

If they do ask or if you sell it private party keep your receipts from all the maintenance work you have done. The next buyer will appreciate knowing you took care of your car.

My 2018 Audi A3 tends to squeak in the front left corner of the car whenever I accelerate from a stop or whenever I'm taking a slow left turn. I went to the dealership and it went away for a while. They've told me I have about 8mm left on my brake pads in the front for both sides. Could it be the brake wear indicator rubbing on the rotor when I'm turning? I don't think it's the wheel bearing since it's more of a rhythmic squeak at low speeds that goes away with speed compared to a howling noise associated with wheel bearings. Does anybody have an idea of what it could be?

Wtf this is the first mk7 that i have seen with a regular handbrake (non electronic)
Mk7s for the North American market that came out of the Puebla plant have the manual handbrake.
these with cvt's are great
Not sure where you live but in North America there is no option for a cvt
Are you okay?

How bad is carbon build up on these ea888’s?
Really bad in general.
Steve F like only buy new and add a premium catch immediately really bad? I’m thinking of a used golfR but the humble mechanic took his apart at 10k and already had significant build up with using only premium shell and an additive every fillup

My opinion all the new VW are a waste of money they are made to brake down and cost the person a lot of mo ey. PS not worth it and the FSI cars should have been never made another super waste of money but then your broke
That garbage IS stupid!
