    I have had T40, T41 and T43 in okay to good conditions before and sold them all. And i bought a super mint condition T43 again today. These are real machines.

    Love these, hope you can get your hands on some other rare/retro pads like the X300/X301 Kodachi or W series. Also when doing thermal paste on bare die chips you want to make sure the whole die is covered, although with the amount you used it probably covered everything and then some haha!

    I think we need more T43p videos bro. Anything related to T43P, especially the sata mod, the process.

      @Semseddin. 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      seriously bro, if you still have the t43p and decide to do the sata mod yourself, please document the process in a video for people. I want to do it myself but i am unfortunately a person who understands what i see instead of what i read. :D

    Just got a T43p with the 1600x1200 IPS display, I put new thermal paste on the CPU, fan still sounds like a jet engine.
    Also, at 5:27, the plastic piece on the palmrest you are pointing at, is it attached to the palmrest itself? On mine it sort of is attached, but only in one spot. You can sort of move it back and forth. I looked and it doesn't really look like it broke off, but I hope my palmrest isn't broken.

    • @panoramacircle3281
      @panoramacircle3281  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the drainage tunnel, if it's loose just glue it back on. Yes the T43p gets loud because IBM was afraid of flexing under heat so the cranked up the fan. You can use TPFancontrol to reduce the fan curve. One last thing would be to replace the paste -below_ the gpu heat spreader but you have to remove that part, maybe I'll do a video about that too.

    • @KylesDigitalLab
      @KylesDigitalLab 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@panoramacircle3281 It goes on fine, I don't need to glue it. I'm just wondering if it was moulded like that.

    Man i love old IBM laptops.
    I still own a IBM thinkpad G40 and T40 both in mint condition (for second hand)
    Using the G40 for retro gaming (thanks for both dvd/cd and floppy) and planning on selling the t40 (dont need alot of laptops laying around)
    A tip from me to anyone out there you can actually buy a upgraded cooler for the t40 wich also cools the gpu and increases life span. ;)

    • @panoramacircle3281
      @panoramacircle3281  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      With T40 you have to be careful with flexing so you should replace CPU paste asap and try avoid running it too hot.

    • @gamingwithadutchman
      @gamingwithadutchman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@panoramacircle3281 Yeah good tip aswell.
      But i think with the new paste and the upgraded cooler it should last alot longer.

      I just installed the latest Linux Mint 9.2 (cinnamon). on my T43 (not a p model). It is amazing and more fun than windows. I am converting all my Thinkpads to this operating system. IMHO, it is the greatest Linux for a simple guy like me...installs well, everything works...so happy Linux has come this far.

    I remember having an IBM branded T61

    • @panoramacircle3281
      @panoramacircle3281  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some (most?) of the T61 had the Lenovo branding as well.

    • @archygrey9093
      @archygrey9093 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They had the IBM logo but they were 100% owned and made by Lenovo. Lenovo had the rights to keep using the ibm name a few years after purchasing.

    • @Eessa
      @Eessa 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Laptops aren't designed straight away they take a long time under Research and Development.
      the T61 was also developed before acquisition with IBM tooling .
      just like Apple engineered the iPhone 5 during Steve Jobs
      After 2 years from acquisition is when It was just lenovo team products
      X41 last designed and manufactured by IBM in early 2005. T61 in 2007 (last designed by IBM thinkpad)
      T400 was called T4xx because Lenovo wanted to unify lineup to their own scheme by then in late 2007/2008 era
      so from 2005-2008 they were recyling and manufacturing stuff from IBM 2008-now they worked exclusively as Lenovo
      the quality changed too by then

    • @panoramacircle3281

      X60 does not suffer from flexing afaik so you should be safe (in particular with Intel GPU)

    • @namesalvaje
      @namesalvaje 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@panoramacircle3281 It still works perfect with a 320GB 7,200 Rpm drive. One quick questions . What Linux Distro would you recommend for the X60?

    • @panoramacircle3281
      @panoramacircle3281  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@namesalvaje Honestly that is quite difficult, it has to be 32bit and compatibel with older hardware. That is trail and error so you have to test it. In my experience most modern Linux distros break compatibility too often.

      Good morning, always appreciate your Thinkpad video as i'm a big fan of Thinkpad,, concerning the flexing i have x60 x60s x61s and x61t and i can confirm very solid units and non problems at all with flexing. i was considering to get in series T4* but those one as you know get problems with flexing, did you meet this wit yours T43P ? do you know if models T43 or T43P also have this failure ? Thanks a lot . Always enjoy your video ! Greetings from Belgium.

    • @panoramacircle3281

    • @rogeryu0
      @rogeryu0 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, I just decided to buy a plastic razor sticker removal tool for my own overheating T43. I bought the Intel GPU version of the heatsink for $US25 to use my Arctic MX4 instead of having to buy a low quality thermal pad from eBay, but ran into this problem. I actually scratched the heatsink badly while trying other adhesive removal techniques, but luckily the scratches miss the northbridge die entirely, and only go to the edges of the GPU IHS.
