      Fortunately a collapsed hangar sabatoged by the luftwaffe so its contents would be lost to advancing forces was recently excavated and was found to contain 3 untouched 262s,and 2 damaged 1 of the damaged ones was a rare 2 seater training craft,they were auctioned Recently by the land owner and all purchased by some polish millionaire, they were in a collapsed confined space, and he's planning to use the damaged ones to repair the ones in better condition, I hope the guy doesnt put them in some private collection, a bunch of other spare parts were found 13 electric starter motors and some other parts. Its amazing they survived in the soviet era but I guess the soviets didnt want to waste time lifting out the 12 ft thick collapsed ceiling, I'm thankful it fell at an angle

Originally the factory was "born" as Bayerische Flugzeugwerke so it was Bf 109 or Bf 110 but in 1938 11th July Willy Messerschmitt bought the company a and it was decided to capitalized on his name on the airplanes produced so Bf 109 became Me 109 but not automatically as on official documents it kept being called BF or Me until Me 109 F but it faded away so it is correct both BF and Me but basically Me 109G series stands correct like all the airplanes produced by Messerschmitt....

      Always wondered about that. I thought Luftwaffe planes were cranked. You see film of two guys cranking (the flywheel?) before it starts. Maybe they figured a battery was dead weight, once it started. (I saw what was supposedly a P-51 battery, and it was huge).

      That’s the starter inertia it’s an internal combustion engine which in this case is using an electric motor that pilots have to hold down for around 20 seconds before pulling the starter ingnition this allows for the aircraft to be started without having to be hand cranked like it would usually have to be if there was no electric motor

    The life cycle of these aircraft was hardly more than 200 flying hours which means that in combat units this aircraft was "written off" even without any bullets on it likely after 6-12 months. The engine life cycle was even more shorter. So if Germans produced Jan-Dec some 10 000 and lost in combat or non-combat 5 000 during that year the other 5 000 was written off anyway. About 2 500 during same year and other 2 500 in first part of next year. That's the reason why great majority aircraft were never lost in combat but just written-off.

    • @FiveCentsPlease
      @FiveCentsPlease 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +bandwagon22 The Luftwaffe had a very good recovery and recycling process for downed aircraft with a special team sent to each crash. Usable aircraft were returned to service . Downed allied aircraft were sorted and cataloged for raw materials. Many German aircraft were repaired or upgraded and spent several years in service. For example, Bf-109 #3579 was crashed at least twice and sent to a repair depot and then returned to combat before eventually being lost in Russia. www.airic.ca/assets/images/bf200562524.jpg And you can see that the Fw-190 in the foreground in this picture has been in service and then returned to a production line for repairs or upgrade. i.pinimg.com/originals/ea/1c/4e/ea1c4e2ef8a0ea717888aca4434f3f60.jpg

    Red Seven has an electric inertial starter. Makes a nice flying upgrade but, insofar as I know, the Gustav as it was used in Luftwaffe service had a hand-cranked inertial starter which would be more historically accurate.

    • @FiveCentsPlease
      @FiveCentsPlease 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Rogers Hunter The original Bosch starters could be operated electrically or by hand to spin up the inertia wheel. Back in wartime, it's quicker for the ground crew to spin up the starter in a hurry than waiting to hook up a start cart for power to the starter. Hand start was available as a back-up method on a number of aircraft. Red Seven is probably using a better modern battery to power the Bosch starter.

      Thats because it isnt completly original. Back in ww2 the ,,Anlasser" would get started by hand. If that is what you mean. The Me-109 here actualy still has that hole, where you could start it. But it isnt needed anymore and an elektrostarter is much better.

      +Schlipperschlopper Inertia starter where a flywheel is spun up and engaged to a starter dog to the crank. Found on many aircraft for back-up starting also, German, Japanese and Allied. On Luftwaffe planes the starter flywheel can be operated by hand or electrically.

    • @FiveCentsPlease

      +ᚹᛟᚾ ᛗᚨᚷᛞᛖᛒᚢᚱᚷ The Bosch starters could be operated manually by hand or with an electric power source such as an external start cart or with an internal battery. The Bf-109 has a power port underneath between the wheels while the Fw-190 has a power port on the side behind the cockpit. Most likely the starter is original but they are just operating it electrically.

      Red 7 didn't have an accident from negative G. It was inverted flight and the fuel pickups were no longer submerged in fuel, and they sucked air into the fuel injection pump. The pilot wasn't able to restart using the prime pump.
