I agree with you and think it’s amazing. But it’s very similar to anything we find amazing in life. Playing an instrument expertly. Lifting extremely heavy weights with insanely clean and technically proficient form. Building a house. Building a fast/beautiful car. There are all these really tiny details no one thinks about at all whatsoever, throughout every choice and every action within that speciality. They’re just subtle and fluid as you do them, because as an expert in any of the fields mentioned or even more not mentioned, you have all of these small nuances padded amongst your entire framework as you execute the talent. 👌🏼

@ well yes of course there is more im just saying that muscle memory is a big part of it, for example when I do a roundhouse kick I don’t even think about how I do it and yet I do all these little thing like pivoting my foot and turning my shoulders.
In Muay Thai I got taught to bring my knee up and out it into the inside of my elbow while keeling my hands up by my face, it blocks the body kick and keeps your hands up ready to punch
Kinda insane that this simple way of blocking needs to be teached lmao. Its the most logical way to react to a kick and still people don’t know how to do it

Yeah thats it 😊 In only my 2nd week of training and have to say even just in training and very light clinch sparring the importance of defence has skyrocketed in my ribs' estimation 😅 Even holding pads you get bruised, and after a very light knee in the clinch, ribs wanted a sleep-in. But it really does help a lot getting clipped here and there because you have no idea how vulnerable you are until you do. Breaking ribs for me (not this time) was almost as debilitating as breaking my back, and it hurt more. Kind of like having kidney stones.
Arms vs leg can be a losing battle, so better to check high with leg or do as scoop block. works the same high. This can work but will be a last line of defense and could potentially end up in broken bones
@@bryant8647 block with an elbow or knee, move in and counter, move left and catch, kick the standing leg, any of these. There's quite a few alternatives than just taking the hit on the flesh. It's the same reason taking the hit on the thigh is undesirable, do you think your fore arm muscle is tougher than your thigh?
my teacher taught me the exact same thing when blocking u dont want to expose to much face or body and ur right getting kicked in that area or rib cage will hurt and make u tired
Your arm is going to break anyways. That's why the way thais do is the best. Mma stance doesn't allow you to check body kicks properly. Also, if managed distance well, people will kick you with the foot in the space between your arm and your tummy and you will be done. Also some guys in mma had a very side stance that favors boxing but welcome body kicks as well. That being said, yes, that's the only good way you have to block them. I agree.
there is no actual need too lower your guard to the hip you can just use the philly shell stance so you can cover all the body while also having your right at face level in case of an attack
There also break your elbow lol, either learn Muay Thai and catch the kicks with a sweep,or move away from the kick,or block it by lifting leg up,taking hits on your arms or elbow will break sooner or later
Same with the knees. Ppl really don’t get it. So far Muay Thai fighters understand but lil mma kids don’t get it at all. That’s why ppl break threw vehicle windows no problem with elbows even punches, it’s not hard to do at all
When I use this block I don't normally eat on my forearms like he is teaching. I catch the shin in the palm of my hand. It saves my arms and is great at not eating that impact from the kick
but if your inner arm is flush with your body when you being down that elbow, you still feel the pain in the body, not fully obviously, but you will feel it, whereas if you do the exact same thing just flare the elbow out a tad, you can’t feel it anywhere near your stomach area.
you are on to something. ideally you dont want to block body kicks if you can parry. pulling the hips or stepping back in order to parry with the opposite hand is ideal. this allows you to defend and counter quickly. next is avoiding the kick entirely by moving out the way, usually stepping back. *next in priority* is blocking the kick. the problem with this is, like mr levy points, you need both arms for a strong block, unlike the parry which occupies just one arm and *without* risking its integrity. this is how it works in muay thai. blocking a round kick like this is not ideal. if you find that you are needing to do this often, then you need to drill the step back (keep hands up, chin down, eyes forward), and then add the parry. practice parry on teeps first if necessary then apply to the body kick. now for head kicks you dont really parry. either pull your head back, block the kick which occupied both arms, or, best, manage the space in the first place
True, this is why this is a body kick defense and not a head kick defense, But even the most experienced fighter can sometime mess it up and think one is the other.
All these details really makes you think abt how professional MMA, UFC, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, etc are.
