Great coments Im now 75 years old had 25 watches during my life mostly swiss give them all away to my family and wife watching your chanel make me hungry to get again a decent watch!
I totally agree with your comment on date windows. Very often they are not visually pleasing, a hassle to set and in a world where everybody needs a smartphone, whether they want one or not, almost completely useless. The moon phase is also not very useful but pretty, an absolut win. I also think that straps are totally underrated. A strap can make or break a watch, whether you want an expensive watch to fly under the radar with a safe, but inexpensive looking strap or dress up a mid-tier watch with a high-end strap. The right strap can create magic!
I Don’t like date windows but have always loved date pointers without realising that they are a thing. Dry elegant way of displaying date for those of us who are Presbyopic
I have a fascination with Spring Drive too. I’ve yet to jump into that field due to lack of funds but, have also found myself becoming interested in other ‘Electric Hybrid’ movements as in a Ralf Tech Watch I recently bought where the Quartz movement is wound by a rotor lasting up to 100,000 hours! No battery required just like Spring Drive. I’m also with you on the 1k to 4k price bracket. There is SO much on offer in that range which is well designed and good quality. A personal ‘like’ that has been resurrected with myself has been BIG Watches. Out of favour at present I know and having bought a 36mm Datejust in January I am currently loving Watches up to 47.5mm. Whether it’s my aging eyesight (lol) or just the ease of legibility at a glance, I think it’s probably the latter. Always love my Saturday binge of your channel Mike. Cheers ✊
I totally agree with your apperceation of the He relief valve on the Omega 300m Pro. I was a Saturation diver and yes I used the He relief valve while living through decompression. on the way up in the dry decompression chamber you open the He relief to let out any ingress of Helium. But when you want to shower etheir leave your Omega 300 pro on your bunk or close the He valve before you take your watch into the shower. I f you have the Rolex Seadweller the He relief valve is automatic so you don't have to do anything the watch will bleed out Helium automaticly. But the Omega is cheaper and in my opinion looks better but that is my opinion.
Totally agree omega NATO strap are just the best. I have 4 black/grey black/red red/white and Blue and navy one that came with my bond commanders watch
Last year for my 30th wedding anniversary, my wife bought me the 75th anniversary Aqua Terra (from the Flagship store in Mykonos!). They actually gifted me a NATO strap and I didn’t appreciate it appropriately until now.

Yes, spot on with the boxes, no need for huge boxes to take up precious space. I have the impression that 5hz watches wear out faster/ easily than 4hz movement (fact check me). If so, the amount of "hz" will affect maintenance costs. For example, high-beat GS need to be sent to Japan factory for servicing whilst the 4hz movements can be done locally, at least from where (i live in Singapore). Image buying a $5k+ GS spring-drive watch only to realize later that the servicing will costs at least $500+ (more than 10% of the costs of the watch). definitely, something to note before purchase.
Great stuff as always Mike. Never miss an episode! Loving the love for the Seamaster HEV... The different from everyone else bracelet too. In the days of bland homogenization, you can spot a fellow Seamaster nerd at 30 yards!
Oris: 10-year warranty on their in-house movements; quick-release bracelets and straps on many of their references; includes a second strap or bracelet with some of their references; small, sustainable boxes that can be laid flat, made with recycled materials (and zero plastic); some references with two-tone (bronze and steel); plenty of watches under $4k.
I never get tired of my Seamaster 300m. It's the absolut perfect watch for me. The bracelet, the casual yet refined and detailed dial. It's never out of place. You are never over- or underdressed. The dail can be playfull in sunlight or subtile indoors. It delivers the full range of the spectrum any watch geek likes.
I too come from IT background, currently management of IT of some sort stepping toward old age as well :) .. recently, I upgraded from Apple Watch to real watches. Also love two-tone. For the dubious, I encourage you to handle the watches in person as they often don’t photograph or film very well. I saw a two-tone Omega 300M in Las Vegas this weekend and it was just 🤌
Mike, you're my go-to for honest watch insights and evaluations. I love your insights and well-balanced delivery. At this point I wouldn't even buy a $500 watch without getting your thoughts on it first. That said I have two questions resulting from this video: 1) Warranties - this year I bought and returned a Christopher Ward C60 Trident Pro 300. It was a nice watch at $1K, but it didn't knock my socks off and I returned it within the 60-day return window. I was taken aback when they told me that I would not get back the full price I paid b/c the watch had been worn despite being in flawless condition. There wasn't any information about this warranty in the box and I can't find any details about the 60-day return window on their website, certainly nothing about it not being worn. I feel that that guarantee is a bait and switch tactic, and I've lost some respect for them. Am I missing something? Your thoughts? 2) I'm ready to purchase another watch. If you were looking for a diver in the 1K - $4K range, what would be your first, 2nd, and 3rd choices? Thanks for your work in this space!
Just wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoy your channel. I've watched a decent amount of watch content on TH-cam, but only discovered you recently. I wish I had a lot sooner. I enjoy your more analytical approach to watches, as well as your 'wear what you like' attitude. I have really cheap watches that have crappy movements/power reserve that I just like the look of. I also enjoy two-tone watches more than anything, except a NATO strap. I bought my first one a few months ago, and much like ceramic bezel inserts, it can totally change the look of a watch. I can't recommend it enough to other people to try one. They are so comfortable (6" wrist for reference), and can add that extra flair turning a watch from something more dressy into something more casual. PLEASE keep making more content, love every video you've made, and every one has something new to bring to the table. Cheers!!
Can't understand why anyone would come here to insult you, dont like the content then dont watch! I think your channel is Fantastic, bravo and keep it coming!
Loved the video (as usual). Not only interesting watches but background on watch storage and strap removal. Helpful for gifts when you can’t afford your enthusiast’s watches. Thanks so much
Mike is the man! Tuning in every weekend. I just got a Formex essence 39 in blue meteorite and am loving it. I'd like to give the Reef a try next. Big fan of the brand.
Two-tone for the win! I have been using all black G-Shock watches and other watches in silver for decades, but for my every day watch I picked up a two-toned watch a while ago, and I hardly ever use other watches now - that's how much I enjoy using it. That being said, my gold colored Casio A1000 does see sunlight quite often. Even as a pale Scandinavian, I enjoy wearing an all gold toned watch sometimes - and it doesn't hurt, that the bracelet is a Milanese type bracelet, as it's my favorite type of watch bracelet.
Great video! A few days ago, Teddy B released a video where he also said he likes the esthetic of chronographs but never uses its function. I am the opposite. I like clean, uncluttered dials but once a day, for 3 to 6 min, I could use a chronograph… when I brew a cup of tea
It's a Sex Calendar! With 28 days in a cycle a moon face is actually, usually, or at least sometimes a functional sex calendar. But if you're a watch enthusiast, your sex calendar is called a "useless complication".
Hi Mike, Your reviews and commentary on watches and the business of watches keeps me coming back. I’d love to see more on the design aspect of the industry, ie how a watch is envisioned, engineered, parts sourced, etc. While I own a couple of classics and a few lower end pieces I am fully on board with your perspective as a consumer. Thanks and cheers,
We like you too, Mike! I like your videos and voice, as well as the thoughts you have and your danish accent, because it reminds me of my two years i spent in denmark to study at DTU.
@4:00 - one of the best unboxing experiences comes from Vertex in the spirit of the original Dirty Dozen field equipment issued during WW2...you feel almost like Churchill ordered the watch for you. Bravo to CEO Don Cochrane for his vision and execution.
Thank you for providing something different for us - watch enthusiasts. You can only watch so many watch revues. You bring a little extra and somehwat different but interesting content. Thank you!
Awww - that last like got me right in the feels. 😊 Got my first real watch from my girlfriend as a gift after about six months of dating. We were in university and she was far from wealthy. I’m going to buy my second watch to celebrate the fact we’ve been married now for 30 years. It will be cool to set them both side by side and appreciate all the time that has passed between them…
Agreed on value for the money. I don’t have a lot to spend so I’m saving for the Big Crown Pointer and that’s probably going to be my only automatic watch. Really appreciate your takes. I watch often.
I like that a nice watch (even my Seiko SPB239) is a reliable and beautiful mechanical item that can bring a smile on my face even when über time pressure
Mike, I largely agree with you, particularly when it comes to quick-release bracelets/straps, extra straps provided when buying a watch, small boxes, Spring Drive, and especially the moonphase complication. Aesthetics and design are what I appreciate most in a watch, which is why the moonphase is my favourite complication. Of course it's completely useless, but the beauty and romance of it just makes me smile. At least when it's well done. I've been collecting since the 1990s and own more than 300 watches (largely inexpensive vintage pieces), so watch rolls are not a realistic way for me to store my watches. Up until a few years ago I was using watch display boxes that hold 24 pieces at a time, but even that eventually proved unworkable. So I went looking for alternative storage methods and found fairly inexpensive stackable cabinets, each with 5 drawers, each drawer of which can store up to 27 watches. That saved me a TON of space, allowed me to have everything in one place and helped me avoid having to move boxes around all the time just to find the watch I want. Of course watch boxes (the branded ones you get when you buy watches) are still a pain in the ass, and I store those in large Rubbermaid-style storage bins. Fortunately I have the space in my house to get away with it. The main thing I disagree with you on is large, visible helium escape valves. In my view the Seamaster Professional is a better watch than the Submariner, but I think the Sub looks better, largely because it's not encumbered by that valve. But it's all subjective, of course. Cheers!
Oh,yeah, that Omega Seamaster edition of James Bond's Specter movie is just 🤩... I'm a particularly avid titanium fan, mini-flashlights, keychains, pens, and Watches. I even love those AliExpress mod-kits with titanium hardware. My aspirational watch grails are the Tudor Pelagos, and that Omega Specter and I even don't mind the nobby he scape valve snorkel😂. Thanks for the video.
What I like: When they make the watch thin! The Black Bay54 & IWC Mark XX for example. More options for NATO straps and it feels premium. I want to feel like there’s watchmaker prowess and wearing a thick brick gives me the impression that they couldn’t engineer a better wearing experience.
"Finally, I like you guys". Love it! Great outro and encourages me to put fingers to keyboard and reciprocate here (and I almost never comment on YT videos). We like you, too, Mike. I am new to watch collecting and have learnt more on your channel than any other. Cerebral, entertaining, genial and balanced. Also impressed with the industry analysis you do. Are we allowed to ask what you do for a living? (Because if the watch manufacturers are not employing you as an adviser, they should).
I mean it. Apart from one or two trolls the vast majority of interactions with viewers is super positive. It's been a big positive. My background? Various business roles. Formerly consulting. Now just in the business side of things 😀
I absolutely love your videos, Mike. They're always insightful and put together exceedingly well. I'm so glad you started your own channel. Keep up the good work, mate. You should have way more subscribers, too (this will change but hasn't happened quickly enough, imo).
Great Watch channel. I really like your breakdown of watches. I recently bought a Bremont S301 Supermarine 40mm Diver watch with metal bracelet with old logo. I really really love it. As starting Watch collector I only began very recently. My original watch I had absolute years was a Tag Heuer F1 2000 from 1990 which was good for everyday watch . My next serious buy will be Omega Seamaster 42mm white face with metal bracelet and black rubber strap option . You either love or hate Rolex watches, so true I hate Rolex . There’s so many good quality watches out there as good for less money . When I was 13 I was given Blancpain 38mm dress watch probably of 1930s/40s vintage with leather strap in a Will . It did not work and strap was broken. I forgot totally about it as you do and left in my sock drawer . When we moved it was probably lost . Years later I looked back on it and wondered what a loss it probably was! At that young age you don’t appreciate the quality and prestige of a brand then .
Another great video Mike. Here's my tuppence worth: Helium escape valves are wholly pointless. In another life, a long, long time ago I worked as a commercial diver all around the World. I know for a fact that only saturation divers worked at a depth where the partial pressure of helium would make a HEV necessary, and they number a relative handful. I know that a few technical leisure divers (mixed gas) go deep, but they don't use expensive watches. I never used a watch at work at all. Our bottom time was controlled topside. All diver watches are about flex, not function, even amongst those of use who dive deeper than their desk. Kind regards
I love, love, LOVE your channel. Always, thoughtful, erudite and well-balanced. I learn something new (and of value) every single time I watch one of your videos. Thank you ... keep doing what you're doing!
Wholeheartedly agree about small watch boxes. My Rolex bought over 30 years ago came in a box not too different in size to the little white boxes you get your new Seiko in. Protects in transit and that's all it needs to do.
Great presentation, Mike. I have a couple of watches with a power reserve, and i find that a really useful complication. I love a nice presentation box, though.
Great video, new to the channel. Still to pull the trigger on my first ‘proper’ watch. And your videos make the decision harder and more interesting. Thanks for all your content!
new to watches love all the great content have learned so much I'm definitely in that 1to 4 k level hope to hear much more in that market. thanks for your efforts here keep it coming
Hi Mike, I've only been subscribed to you for maybe a month and a half/2 months tops but I can't get enough of these videos! I am probably someone who will only be able to own very few watches in my life, so I am trying to ensure that I get as much information as possible such that I know I'll be satisfied with the limited purchases I can make. One watch brand I've not heard you discuss yet is Fortis. I like the aesthetic of them, their movements look good, and they seem to be willing to take risks. Plus they operate mostly in that £1k-£5k space. What do you think of them? Cheers!
Finally, someone who gets the helium escape valve on the Omega SMP300! It's totally useless, even for a normal diver, the only people who would need it are saturation divers. And they're are very few of them. Like in the hundreds. But that valve turns the SMP from just another dice watch to having it's own unique look that helps it stand out. I'll take a white dial SMP over a Submariner any day.
#1, I like this channel. Keep up the great work. #2, I like role playing. Even though it's mostly in my own headspace, I like wearing watches that make me feel like I'm living a particular adventure or lifestyle that a certain style and design of watch can bring.. all be it greatly done vicariously. It's part of the fun and enjoyment in the select timepieces I choose to own.
I always look forward to your new content. Your's is one of my favourite channels. If I remember correctly, you were even favourably quoted by Ricky of Scottish Watches a few months ago.

I like that you can get a nice watch at many different price points. Anything from $150 to eleventy billion dollars.
eleventy = 110 yes?
@@ernstplomann5003 whatever blows your hair back.
I have a two tone (steel and Sedna gold) Omega Globemaster. Looks fantastic.
Very underrated watch in my opinion.
Good choice 😀
Cheers!!
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. Really appreciated 😀😀
Can't understand why anyone would come here to insult you, dont like the content then dont watch! I think your channel is Fantastic, bravo and keep it coming!
It doesn't happen often but every now and again some really unpleasant people show up. Few and far between fortunately 😀
Lol. Thanks 😀
Nicely put Mike! Your content has certainly influenced my preferences in watch collection. Keep it up.
Hopefully in a good way 😂
Agree about two tone. I have a 1987 TT Sub and I love the look. Full gold is over the top. The SS case is better on scratches as well.
I like tea, but in Starbucks land ( where it originated) not so much. No chronographs in my collection. Until now, I was wondering why. 😄
Yet another great video. Look forward to seeing you hit the 50k mark and beyond.
It's a Sex Calendar!
With 28 days in a cycle a moon face is actually, usually, or at least sometimes a functional sex calendar. But if you're a watch enthusiast, your sex calendar is called a "useless complication".
hahaha why? do you put watches over women? i guess you can easily have both :).
@@ernstplomann5003 I think someone was explaining that it has to do with how a woman's period works, but as I am not a woman, I can't attest to that
Good to know about Omega straps. Will add that to the bag when I pick up a Sppedy.
If you have the cash, they are worth it, I think at least 😀
Hi Mike,
Your reviews and commentary on watches and the business of watches keeps me coming back. I’d love to see more on the design aspect of the industry, ie how a watch is envisioned, engineered, parts sourced, etc. While I own a couple of classics and a few lower end pieces I am fully on board with your perspective as a consumer. Thanks and cheers,
Great content again Mike,I particularly agree with the quick release point,,,so much easier and avoids that heart wrenching scratch 🙂
We like you too, Mike!
I like your videos and voice, as well as the thoughts you have and your danish accent, because it reminds me of my two years i spent in denmark to study at DTU.
you are one of better, more genuine, and informative watch channels. Love your work
appreciated, thank you kindly 😀
You are spot on about watch box sizes. I have three storage boxes so far. Hamilton does their sizes right. Omega not so much.
Omega go big all the time. It's too much 😀
@4:00 - one of the best unboxing experiences comes from Vertex in the spirit of the original Dirty Dozen field equipment issued during WW2...you feel almost like Churchill ordered the watch for you. Bravo to CEO Don Cochrane for his vision and execution.
I like the HEV on the Seamaster as well. 😂😂
yay! Welcome to the club 😊
Love the 70 day since last watch purchase! Love you too!
Thank you for providing something different for us - watch enthusiasts. You can only watch so many watch revues. You bring a little extra and somehwat different but interesting content. Thank you!
Love your channel. Best watch content out there imo
Happy to hear it 😃
Awww - that last like got me right in the feels. 😊
Got my first real watch from my girlfriend as a gift after about six months of dating.
Cheers!
Interesting to hear your expert thoughts - thanks for sharing Mike! And I agree about liking the helium escape valve on the Omega Seamaster!
Not an Expert. Important to emphasise that - Just an enthusiast on a learning journey 😀😀
Always good to listen to your commentary. Insightful, rational, well presented.
This is the SUPER informative channel - that makes you love watches even more!
Great video as always.
Curious to know your thoughts on Nivada Grenchen
Thank you. And I agree about the two tone.
One of the best videos I’ve seen ! Love the positivity & some great choices here. 👌
cheers to you 😊😊
Love this channel. I to like the HEV on the Seamaster 300M. Now I want to try an Omega Nato strap for my Seamaster 300M.
I absolutely love your videos, Mike. They're always insightful and put together exceedingly well. I'm so glad you started your own channel. Keep up the good work, mate. You should have way more subscribers, too (this will change but hasn't happened quickly enough, imo).
Thanks a ton - hopefully my continue will continue to grow and I'll do my best to keep it up 😀
Thank you! Always love your eloquent vids! And so agree with the watch roll, and let’s say 90% of your 15 points. Thank you very much.
Awesome! Thank you 😀(and you don't have to agree with everything - that would be boring) 👍👍👍
Thank you for these videos! Learned so much about watches.
Glad you like them 😊
Great Watch channel.
Here's my tuppence worth:
Helium escape valves are wholly pointless.
I will try my best, thanks 😀
Really enjoy your videos Mike and appreciate you taking the time to make them so regularly. It a sea of calm in an otherwise stormy ocean
happy to hear it. I'm just a nerdy babbling on about my hobby 😊
Wholeheartedly agree about small watch boxes. My Rolex bought over 30 years ago came in a box not too different in size to the little white boxes you get your new Seiko in. Protects in transit and that's all it needs to do.
I’ve just discovered your channel and I’m really enjoying your content. Thanks for all your hard work.
Thanks for watching 😀
Love your content Mike
Best out there - as well as being super varied
Keep up the great work, this video was awesome, nice to have a positive video
Always a weekly pleasure, these videos of yours.
thanks for that 😀
Hello Mike !
Your fan from Thailand
I love your content and here is my favorite watch channel on Utube
Keep up the great work :)
Thanks a ton 😊
Intelligent and articulate content, love it, thank you. P.S. I also dig two tone…
Two tone is king 😀
Great presentation, Mike. I have a couple of watches with a power reserve, and i find that a really useful complication. I love a nice presentation box, though.
We love you too Mike, seriously Saturdays are much fun with your informative videos ❤. Btw, which watch roll do you have? 😅
This is a great channel for watch lovers, so thanks to you sir for all the quality content. Greetings from Valdivia - Northern Patagonia, Chile.
Greetings to you to. Cheers 😀
Really enjoyed this episode Mike. Keep up the good work!
thanks. will try 😀
I thoroughly enjoy your content😊 your content really is a breath of fresh air in the watch space👍🏻
So thoughtful, as always. Really enjoy your channel ☺️🙌🏼
Yay. Thanks 🙂🙂🙂
Great video, new to the channel. Still to pull the trigger on my first ‘proper’ watch. And your videos make the decision harder and more interesting. Thanks for all your content!
Welcome aboard 😀
Yes, the two tone are the best of both worlds. 🏆
Love your insightful videos! You be you! Keep up the good work my friend.
Will try at least, thanks 😀
new to watches love all the great content have learned so much I'm definitely in that 1to 4 k level hope to hear much more in that market.
thanks for your efforts here keep it coming
He did? Will have to check that out. Cool Thanks 😀😀
