Got your cookbook the other day. I love it. The QR code idea on each recipe is sooooo helpful. I get to read the recipe and view it on the channel. And it includes so many useful recipes for all occasions! I always shied away from sauces until I found your channel! Now, I actually feel comfortable with the whole sauce-making process. This basic white sauce is one of my favorites. You can make it on so many occasions. Thank you, Johnny Mac! 👍
good question. Here is a link to a traditional bechamel and a list of the ingredients th-cam.com/video/Pka0G0BHABY/w-d-xo.html - 2 cups or 500ml Milk - 2 tbsp or 30g Butter - 2 tbsp or 20g Flour - 1/2 Onion or 50g - 1 Bay Leaf - 1 Clove - 1/4 tsp White Pepper - 1/4 tsp Salt - 1/4 tsp Nutmeg
What if you over reduced the sauce and it’s too thick what is the best way to thin it out, adding some water? Milk? Cream? Broth? Or any one of these? 🤪 Thanks. Love your channel.

Johnny, How is this white sauce different from a Bechamel?
good question. Here is a link to a traditional bechamel and a list of the ingredients th-cam.com/video/Pka0G0BHABY/w-d-xo.html
- 2 cups or 500ml Milk
- 2 tbsp or 30g Butter
- 2 tbsp or 20g Flour
- 1/2 Onion or 50g
- 1 Bay Leaf
- 1 Clove
- 1/4 tsp White Pepper
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 1/4 tsp Nutmeg

Thanks. Love your channel.
Yes, any of those will work - add a little at a time and check to see if it is as thick as you like. Thanks for watching!
Can you use half and half?
Yes that will work 👌 you can even use regular milk
Could I substitute cornstarch for flour?
Why unsalted butter?
That way, you can add the perfect amount of salt to the sauce - and make it to your taste 😋
I've always wondered why use unsalted butter and then add salt. Am I missing something? I normally use salted butter and still have to add salt.
Seriously I've tapped all over the place and I cannot find your cookbook just a glass t-shirts
Here you go. I hope this helps

I only call it gravy if it has meat in it.
How much does this yield? I’d like to try this on a creamed chicken recipe and need enough to cover the chicken pieces
