I made this for the first time about 2 years ago, and now it's one of my familys favorites! I must have made this nearly once a month since then, and none of us are sick of it yet. Thanks for the recipe!
As a Swede, I have made a lot of Meatballs. I will say that this is one of the better recepies I've seen on "Swedish Meatballs" on TH-cam. So hats off for that. Big Yes to make the sauce in the same pan as you have fried the meatballs in before. The brown bits at the bottom of the pan makes all the difference to the taste of the sauce. But just some tips. Fry the onions before adding them, it gives them a sweeter and deeper taste. Mixture the bredcrumbs with beer in a 1/1 ratio and let the bredcrumbs swallow for 10 min before adding them to the mixture. That puts the meatballs to the next level.
I just ate Swedish meatballs today. These delicious marvels don't need any sauce whatsoever. As long as they are made by Ikea, these meatballs are just perfect as is. Once you start, you can't stop.
Sauce and Gravy is a GREAT idea for a channel!! Once you get the sauce down then the sky's the limit! I remember when I first started cooking once I learned to make gravy that meant I can finally step up to making soups. It boosted my confidence in the kitchen.
I just made these and they look and smell great! I did what one of your commenters suggested and grated the onion (mainly because I hate chopping onion). I was going to make mashed potatoes, but husband wants egg noodles: so be it.
My family was bugging me to make this again. They absolutely love this recipe. This has to be the best recipe out there!!!! Thanks again Johnny Mac for all your time and effort!!
I made these meatballs they were amazing. These are my go to meatballs now...the sauce is rich creamy and packed with flavour. Thank you for sharing this amazing recipe.
Just made this for my big family.❤️ I doubled the recipe and used frozen meatballs.😍 I put the nutmeg and allspice into the sauce instead and it was excellent.😁 Deep flavors I didn't know went so well together. Thank you.🙋🏻♀️
Growing up as a child, my Mother would make swedish meatballs for supper. But the way she made it, she incorporated some rice into the meat balls and cooked them in a pressure cooker till they were done. Then she made the sauce with the meatballs in the sauce while she made it. It was one of my absolute favorite dishes she made.
My son has been looking for me to buy this sauce for a few months. Now that I have found the recipe I can make it at home. At least I know what will be in it. Thank you for making the instructions so clear to understand. Best wishes!
Just had Swedish meatballs at IKEA this weekend - but much as I usually enjoy theirs, yours look so much better! IKEA serves them with lingonberry jam and (not enough) gravy.
Made the sauce (to go with ready made meat balls) tonight. Only difference was I sauted onions and mushrooms first and added them back in when I added the meat balls into the sauce. Added to some chips and cranberry jelly (didn’t have any lingonberry). Was bloody delicious. Thanks!
This came up on my recommendations. I love this recipe. I like using cream cheese to make the sauce creamy. I sub the onions for onion powder. My husband and I find the onions even when caramelized can be a little too 'punchy'. Thank you for sharing. I'll be making this in the coming weeks.

I know you put onions in the meatballs but I did not see him put any onions in the sauce so if I buy all beef, I guess I should just do my onions like I normally do and butter I’ve made it to answer another question I made it with and without sour cream so I’ll have to see how my sour cream is the other thing secret ingredient that’s not in this is you put a tiny tiny bit of nutmeg in the sauce I know it’s true o’clock in the morning but I think I’m gonna start cooking as it’s always better the next day. I promise there won’t be any leftovers but just remind people that you cannot freeze the sauce because the cream will separate. I have never added soy sauce not quite sure about that but I shall see thank you for your video
Thanks for this, I tried it today but think I might now have a coronary😂. I always follow recipes to the letter on 1st attempt and tweak it after. Sauce was very rich, very tasty but very rich. Next time I might add a dash more Worcestershire sauce (pronounced “Wooster” here in uk) or a dash of wine before the butter to cut through heaviness. My meatballs weren’t great in the pan so I will try the air fryer next time. I didn’t have many “bits” left from sautéing the balls so I used some leftover onion and meat fried off to near burnt before adding butter etc. Sauce turned out just like the vid. Awesome with thick green veg too like broccoli or asparagus, I needed to make some concession to healthy eating😬. Plenty of sauce left over which I think will go well as a side with steak, chicken or fries. Going to keep a cupful aside and try it over the weekend👍
I found this video this morning and just made this recipe tonight for dinner. My boyfriend loved it! He was so skeptic and I could tell he didn’t even wanna try it, but once he tasted it he practically was licking his plate clean. Thank you for this awesome recipe. I liked it also, however my stomach was upset after eating it, for some reason my stomach cannot tolerate heavy cream anymore not even in dishes after being cooked. So the next time I make it I may have to substitute it with whole milk. 😪
That's awesome!! I am really happy that you all tried it out and liked it!! This is such a great hearty sauce/dish. When you try it out with milk let me know what you think. Thanks again for watching😊😊
Looks good but if you really want to make Swedish Meatballs you have to fry the diced onion before adding it to the mixture, the meatballs will taste completely different. And, before adding the breadcrumbs soak them in some milk or water. Smaklig måltid ("Have a nice meal" in Swedish)
That is exactly what my grandmother did! She used real bread, not crumbs, soaked in milk and squeezed out while onions browned. She also put two bay leafs in the sauce as it simmered. Can’t wait to make this ❤️
@The sauce and Gravy Channel. Just cooked this recipe and my only downfall was using noodles, next time (which will be very soon), I'll do some creamy mash to serve up with it. On the flipside this was a wonderfully creamy delicious recipe. Thanks again for yet another family staple recipe.
These look amazing! Thanks for the list of ingredients. I'm a little nervous about Allspice and Nutmeg in the meat, and I don't keep those on hand, so I might trade those out for something more savory, but that's just me. :)
My fiancé and I were watching your video together casually as couples do when scrolling the internet, could NOT stop cracking up at your commentary like every thirty seconds.
Looks Supreme! My advice would be to skip the soy sauce and use fish sauce to add umami and new flavors on top of this comfort food! When I was a kid in elementary school I had a classmate whose parents were from Sweden. During a 3rd-grade International day food festival, his mother made Swedish meatballs which were thee hit! She added concord grape jelly (Welch's?) to the hearty gravy sauce. My aunt made meatballs for Thanksgiving and the hearty brown sauce included grape jelly and BBQ sauce.
Made this frikadeller and sauce tonight for Christmas dinner. So delicious! A warning: use broth, not bouillon, as it did get a bit salty, but excellent flavor and made a lot. Thank you!
Oh all that butter, you know it’s going to taste insanely good!! Anything meatballs and I’m first in line haha Swedish meatballs are so tasty and your look SO GOOD!!!
I absolutely love Swedish Meatballs and have been looking for a good recipe that was easy. However, I suck at making meatballs, and I don't like the consistency of frozen meatballs. Hopefully I can make these and they will turn out okay. 🙂
That looks very nice, will give it a try soon. Curious as to why you say one fourth of a teaspoon or one fourth of a cup, when most chefs/cooks, and everyone I know says a quarter (1/4) of a teaspoon or a quarter (1/4) of a cup. Plus, a white onion has white skin where (which do not last as long storage wise and have a milder taste and are sweeter), the onion you used was a brown onion, as it had a brown skin (which is the common onion and stronger in flavour)
This looks delicious! I've been searching for a good and easy swedish meatball recipe where I could make my own sauce and I think I found it. I can't wait to try this for my family soon!

And i dont usually add the nutmeg for "everyday" meatballs. Nutmeg is for christmas meatballs.
So glad I bumped into this, the best meatballs sauce I’ve ever made and had, thank you for the recipe...
I am so happy that you tried it and liked it!!! Thank you for watching 😊
Plus I used Dijon mustard as well 👍
@@rodcymru1 I'm glad you all liked this one as well👍
I cant wait to make this in winter, looks delicious. Thankyou for this recipe. 🙏 namaste. 😊
These look amazing! Thanks for the list of ingredients. I'm a little nervous about Allspice and Nutmeg in the meat, and I don't keep those on hand, so I might trade those out for something more savory, but that's just me. :)
Great recipe. I also use a little beef consommé in the sauce.
Beatiful,well done,and taste so good.
My fiancé and I were watching your video together casually as couples do when scrolling the internet, could NOT stop cracking up at your commentary like every thirty seconds.
Awesome 😊👍 I am happy you all enjoyed it. Thanks for watching
Awesome recipe you saved my day made it for Supper thanks and it was Fabulous ❤️
That's great 👍 I'm happy you enjoyed it 😊
Looks Supreme!
Sound great! I'll have to give that a shot👍 Thanks for watching
we call it brunsås but directly translated its brown sauce and masched potatos are a must

I absolutely love Swedish Meatballs and have been looking for a good recipe that was easy. However, I suck at making meatballs, and I don't like the consistency of frozen meatballs. Hopefully I can make these and they will turn out okay. 🙂

This sounds delicious i will be preparing it any minute now! Thanks
Sounds great!! Let me know how it turns out. Thanks for watching 😊
Awesome! Let me know how it turns out 👌👍
vou jantar na sua casa😅
