Got the bright idea to stay on the Atoll islands & grow pot. Then sail ⛵ back to Hawaii & sell it. They disappeared & he was found with their boat back in Hawaii. Something like that, can't remember the exact details. But the guy was a real POS who thinks everyone owes him something.
I did the road around the north side the first time I was in Maui…I came to a car coming the other way and had to back up about 1/4 mile to find a place 2 cars could barely fit. It was crazy, and by far worse than the road to Hana.
I used to live there in the 90’s. Beautiful place, nice people, plenty to do but towards the end of my stay which was the early 2000’s , you could start to see the beginning of the end. Things were getting unaffordable, more and more traffic, friends were having to work more to keep up, more people sleeping in cars, people weren’t using the Chaka 🤙🏽as much. We ruined it.
It would nice if the billionaires who are buying up islands and prime real estate in Hawaii could donate some of their billions to help rebuild on Maui. But that would mean giving a damn about people as opposed to ripping them off.
Too many people from CA think that Maui is supposed to be like Costa Mesa with seamless infrastructure and services. It is not. It is a magnificent self contained island heaven on earth, with good, bad, beautiful and ugly and everything in-between. But more than anything, Maui and its awesome people need your help now. They also need a little compassion; don't show up in Lahaina and expect them to explain everything to you like the last 10,000 TH-camrs that showed up last week did. The government has done little to help the people, certainly less than ANY other disaster in the US, and the proud Hawaiians won't ask for the help they need so please show them your support.
I ws on that highway on the North Road. It was an amazing ride while my wife was holding the dashboard and white knuckling. Thank you for your video I been to Maui several times. Great to see some roadside vendors still there.
I would probably be in spot to say that homeless persons don’t vote or care to vote. Probably have either lost their registration because haven’t voted in a long time or are not registered. Either way they are focused on survival not who is political power.
Family and I going to Maui for vacation next month - partly to help their economy. This video is useful for us to plan our trip. We will be staying out of Lahaina area though.
Wow, They were incompetent before the fire and they STILL are!! Pathetic isn't a strong enough word. That road was crazy yeah? Pretty normal up in Humboldt. Gets more fun when the fog turns into pea soup ( and yea, no guardrails) Good thing you have such a great professional driver. Good job Kim! Really good series about the islands Nik! 🤟🌴🎼
My brother and his beautiful Hawaiian/Filipina now ex-girlfriend got me interested in Hawaii. When I went to Hawaii years ago I fell in love with the place and people though they have the worst drivers in the country. Great place Maui.
That's just it, Nick, I have acted, but I want to redo my podcast, which is a joke, but I can't find tech pros to professionalize my program. I pay $50.00 per hour. I don't know about where you live but here in Chicago it's hard to find good (or bad) help.
Nick says: Damit, before I even got here the clouds where here first, it's gonna rain on me. Well there's bound to be a beach I can relax in with sunshine 😂
I still cannot believe the amount of fruits and vegetable they import. You mentioned that in another video and I do not understand why the government has not set aside enough land to make them a bit more self sustaining in the areas they can. You have some rich folks that own the coffee plantations making a killing there while the everyone is stuck paying incredible prices for imported food stuff that could be grown and raised locally!
On my island (Kauai) prior to Covid, it was 97% imported food. The reason is money. Local farmers cannot compete on price with big mainland farms, or with low cost producers from developing countries. We get fish from Vietnam, and avocados from Mexico. Local farmers have to compete on other aspects like freshness, quality, or supporting local business. (Even Costco is having a problem in recent years keeping their produce from rotting on the retail floor.) But local businesses still can't pay common field laborers to be able to afford to rent or buy the average $1.4 million homes on Kauai. Some do shady things like bringing in illegal laborers from developing countries, taking their passports on arrival, and keeping them in shacks in the fields. Or keeping them at sea on fishing boats.
Do you have the full song somewhere at the beginning of this video? You have played it a few times in this series, just wondering if you have full version to share. Love it. Great job enjoy your videos. Thanks

I used to live in Kihei. I was a middle school math teacher at Lokelani Intermediate School. Made some great friends and have lots of amazing memories. I definitely miss it a lot but it looks like sadly much has changed since I left. Fun fact: when we first moved there, my husband at the time was driving an airport shuttle while he looked for a job as a teacher. He dropped off the last people one day at The Grand Wailea. After everyone had exited the van, he happened to notice a man’s wallet. It had the equivalent of $10k in Japanese Yen in cash - no joke. My husband found the owner and got a thank you. 😅 The man who lost it hadn’t even realized it was missing yet!
Wonderful video. The Sun is overrated. I wuda been stoked there with all that cloud cover you had in the beginning. Even 10mins of direct Sun affects me negatively & I burn easily.
340 is way worse than Road to Hana. I had to deal with an oncoming SUV and I was in the outside lane. My front wheel went airborne trying to move over so we could pass each other. Luckily some locals were behind me and offered to drive my car to safety. A scary experience. And I learned to always drive the side of the road that hugs the mountain. I felt totally safe on Road to Hana though.

Another fine, thorough job by Nick.
they deserve the money that went to ukraine
It would nice if the billionaires who are buying up islands and prime real estate in Hawaii could donate some of their billions to help rebuild on Maui. But that would mean giving a damn about people as opposed to ripping them off.
🙏🏽🙏🏾🙏🏻 for Lahaina. The 🔥 caused more homelessness. 😢
Hope you did the road to Hana! It’s beautiful!
He didn’t, Nick was only there for less than 5 days. Who the heck stays in Maui for less than 5 days? I can’t wait for his Tijuana video!!!
Phuk that local. You don't need to do any "Proper Chanels" to film in public. The public has the right to know what is going on in the area.
@@Malama_Ki That was a regular Nick meet Dick moment.
Some people prefer not to be filmed which is equally respectful as being able to film places that want to. No one way is better then the other.
I took that trip to the island! And snorkeling! When I was 50 my parents took me to Maui before the fire! It was great!
West Maui has the most desirable and expensive real estate on earth. Let’s see who ends up with it.
Even if I was wealthy I wouldn't purchase there 😢
Why not?
I would purchase land and have a monolithic dome home built is I was a millionaire. Monolithic dome homes are 🔥 proof and
EF5 tornado 🌪 proof.
This is what I missed from Hawaii...The Hawaiian Bear HUG'S‼️💓 😢 YEP 😊💝👍
Hahaha! You took the Northern Road!! 😂 That road was sketch back when I lived there. The one way passes alongside cliffs and waterfalls are insane!!
Congratulations on 1M Subscribers Nick! Happy for you!
Yet they will vote the same way
LOL
@@TH-camUpdatesAreRuiningItfinally a wise republican!
They’re scared they’ll lose the benefits…..
Stupidity, and I bet most of them don’t vote
I would probably be in spot to say that homeless persons don’t vote or care to vote. Probably have either lost their registration because haven’t voted in a long time or are not registered. Either way they are focused on survival not who is political power.
Family and I going to Maui for vacation next month - partly to help their economy. This video is useful for us to plan our trip. We will be staying out of Lahaina area though.
Nick, did you see *any* Hawaiians on Maui? 🌸
Not really
@@NickJohnson How sad. 😔 🌸
nice job nick , been a sub before you hit 100k , great to see this channel doing well, nice to see you do places outside usa!! 😊
My brother and his beautiful Hawaiian/Filipina now ex-girlfriend got me interested in Hawaii. When I went to Hawaii years ago I fell in love with the place and people though they have the worst drivers in the country. Great place Maui.
You should move there and act
Esp. On Maui
(Even Costco is having a problem in recent years keeping their produce from rotting on the retail floor.)
But local businesses still can't pay common field laborers to be able to afford to rent or buy the average $1.4 million homes on Kauai. Some do shady things like bringing in illegal laborers from developing countries, taking their passports on arrival, and keeping them in shacks in the fields. Or keeping them at sea on fishing boats.
I’m adding Hawaii Road 340 on Maui to my Bucket List! That looked amazing! I loved the crazy bicyclist! 🚴
Don't do it if the weather is bad
The maui-magic fruit looked good.
no joke.!!!!!!
Do you have the full song somewhere at the beginning of this video? You have played it a few times in this series, just wondering if you have full version to share. Love it. Great job enjoy your videos. Thanks
Jack made it. I'm trying to get him to post a full version and send me the link.
Aloha ❤ from Germany. Aloha to MAUI. 🥰🙏🌈
This is crazy! I’m never waisting my money to go there! Thanks for letting us know about the truth there. And making me feel like I live in my own private paradise! Love your videos Nick! ♥️
Nick makes it so convenient for me to not look out my window at the homeless. I can see it in RokuVision 🤣
Omg whatttt
I’m from Wailuku Maui I love it, take more than 3 days to get to know the place
Maui is amazing no matter what this guy experienced you need to go and experience it for yourself. It's life changing
That beach in minute 28, is known as airport beach. Ka'anapali beach is further south by Whaler's Village.
EPA grants $500K to revitalize??? What, they're gonna build a third of a house???
😂😂😂😂😂
We did that road 340 when it was dirt in the 90s.
Wonderful video. The Sun is overrated. I wuda been stoked there with all that cloud cover you had in the beginning. Even 10mins of direct Sun affects me negatively & I burn easily.
maui magic needs to come to hawaiian festivals in Socal! we got many
Those cliffside roads are terrifying!!
I'm excited for the 1M LONG blooper reel I hope you do it!!! You should do a premier for it!!! Have a celebration!!!
I don't make bloopers though?
340 is way worse than Road to Hana. I had to deal with an oncoming SUV and I was in the outside lane. My front wheel went airborne trying to move over so we could pass each other. Luckily some locals were behind me and offered to drive my car to safety. A scary experience. And I learned to always drive the side of the road that hugs the mountain. I felt totally safe on Road to Hana though.
Wow
