I’m a born and raised Chicagoland suburb guy, and Bears fan to the core. I drove trucks, did Landscaping, and snow removal in Southern Wisconsin and I absolutely loved the scenery and people there. The Kwik Trips and gas are something I cherish each time I pass by there. Wisconsin is a beautiful state.
Come back to Green Bay during the summer and definitely comeback and go to a Packer game. I promise you won’t be disappointed! I live 30 minutes south of GB my husband works in GB. We love Wisconsin 🥰🧀. I am originally from So Cal where. We couldn’t afford a home there and the schools in Cali have two fences not here in Wisconsin. The schools are great. The people are warm and welcoming and the homes affordable. The churches and community take care of the homeless.
I live in Chicago and someday I will live in Wisconsin, When I see that sign Welcome to Wisconsin My blood pressure drops, I love fishing in the Northwood's' and watching race's at Road America and I love the demographics.
I heard this story a few times that certain states have bars where there's some sort of time limit to be at that bar but if you're from Wisconsin, you can stay and drink as long as you want.
My wife and I were at a wedding reception near Nashville. We got carded with our Wi. ID's. The bartender said they're going to need another barrel. Lol.
Not all cold places, lol. It's all about culture, morals, and good policies/leadership. For example, Alaska is considered the most dangerous state of America, Last time I checked. It is unfortunate how far most of America has fallen but hopefully we can hold on to the good places we have left (and fix the culture and leadership in the many places that have fallen to a not caring society)
Ok. I'm in Green Bay right now, watching this. On Oneida St down 1.5 miles from the stadium. And I was just eating cheese curds... different brand though - Malcore's (which always need xtra salt). I'm friends with all my surrounding neighbors (some more than others). You gotta know where to go on any given night out... Years ago, Broadway (on the west side) was the biggest bar/nightlife scene... but it was gentrified starting in the late 90s, and is now mostly shops and restaurants. On weekend nights, go to Washington St and parts of Main St, and parts of Ashwaubenon and Main St in DePere.
I used to live north in the upper peninsula a lot of times it's boring up there but a lot of pretty scenery especially in the upper peninsula of Michigan. I love the piney smell up north; some call it God's country.
Green Bay has to be very careful as to not price the middle class out. They have to closely monitor real estate prices and rental prices. They also are very lucky to be located in a very cold weather area. There’s nothing better to control rapid growth than extremely cold winters and short summers.👍
@user-df2mn5bx2q what are you talking about? Summers aren’t 7 months, they just got dumped on with snow and it’s April lol. It’s cold from October through April and you see snow commonly in each of those months. Summer is consistent from about early June through early September so 3 months, lol
@@DanielDahl-i9p It’s April 3rd, well into Spring, and we just had a half-foot of snow with low temps below freezing. “Summer” weather in a maximally “hot” year could be May through September so I’d liberally give a ceiling of 5 months of Wisconsin “summer” temperatures - usually it’s cooler some parts of those 150 days - but the summer here are typically beautiful overall. And this was the mildest winter on recent record we’ve ever had per all the meteorological records.

Milwaukee I would say is effortlessly cool, amazing old-World architecture. Also love the unglaciated Driftless region of western WI ( also stretching well into Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois). My wife called Appalachia like the Driftless region on steroids.
Madison WI is one of my favorite cities. The people are nice and friendly. Great neighborhoods and has that beautiful lake. I will definitely visit again.
Madison isn't nearly as good as it used to be. Too many kids now getting free school lunch. Machete attack a few months back... shootings, which almost never happened back in 80s and 90s... usual suspects. It's always been progressive but the city government today is woke as fuck. I think they're jealous of Milwaukee.
Madison’s a LOT more “liberal” and lefty leaning than Green Bay which is further north into real farm country and Northwoods. Madison’s a nice 21st century, aesthetic and culturally diverse city though. Depending on what one likes culturally.
Green Bay is nice overall. I lived in Chicago for a few years after college and found my way back to GB. Green Bay is changing fast. 20 years ago homeless vagrants were much fewer and mostly unseen. Now we have people with cardboard signs asking for money all over the city. The top nation in the world studied by professionals gauging happiness is Denmark. They are essentially homogeneous? Is that a contributing factor to happy cities??
Great job Nick. I’m still sorry your trip didn’t include Appleton , it’s another hidden gem in the fox river valley. I see you found the fence on Lombardi avenue, and had an old fashioned, like we discussed. Looking forward to the rest of the Great Lakes trip videos.
I've been to WI only once in 2018 for an event in Milwaukee. Dang though, everyone was friendlier than every place I had been to in the previous 10 years. I loved it just for the natural charm and the fact people act human towards one another. I know that is a low bar, but Wisconsinites are special in their humane presentation and stereotypically Canadian-like politeness.
I grew up in Greenbay in the 90's It was great Bike trails fishing swimming at the parks visited the Neville museum tons of times. No cell phones back then mom and dad just said be home by the time the street lights came on. Boy were those the days.
Check out the Fox River when Walleye season starts. You can walk across the river without touching water because every boat in the state is on it. Musky fishing or Deer Hunting in the North is a right of passage.
There's so much more to Green Bay that's what's shown here, but still an outstanding video. We certainly don't have a big homeless problem like you show in other videos, but what was shown here is pretty accurate. However, you would have seen them line up that evening at Saint John's Homeless Shelter in the hours before six on those nights you were here.
Nice job describing GB Nick! I'm a born and bred proud wisconsinite and you hit on a lot of true topics. I had to laugh at a few things that caught you off guard like the liquor store in a grocery store, a ginormous cheese section and the crown royal soap dispenser. Lolol all so very wisconsin. I hope you come back to visit us again!! It's a great place to live, work and visit.
Mappy shouldn't be talking smack on the Pack wearing a Lions hat. And does he have an open carry permit? That's probably the rifle he used to kill Bambi.
I’m from Illinois, and it’s amazing how much nicer Wisconsin is. We went up there one summer on vacation when I was a kid. My grandparents used to go fishing in a small WI town nearly every year. Whole different world from the “rust belt” where I grew up.
You gotta stop telling everyone how great it is here 🤫😂 another great video. I'm hoping there's a Door County video coming up. Everyone is at the businesses in Ashwaubenon. Green Bay really doesnt have much. I will admit I dedicate my liver most Fridays and Saturdays to cocktails 😂
Broadway used to even have more bars. There used to be the "Broadway Challenge" where you'd try to drink one beer in every bar from one end of Broadway to the other. Broadway has cleaned up its act a lot in the last 40 years.
Welcome to the good old Midwest Nick! Plain and boring. No Hurricanes, earthquakes, homeless hoardes, volcanoes or climate change issues (the Lake freezes over some years and others not, the levels always fluctuate up and down 10 ft., climate change hype). Best fishing in the world. More beer than you can drink and enough cheese to lock you up for a lifetime. We love it here FIB and cheesedick alike. Stable healthy lifestyle. You can keep Florida, California and New Yawk. We're it and we know it! Thank you.
Idk man, I lived in madison for 32 years, just moved to orlando for a job opportunity i couldn't get in wisconsin. The weather here through the winter was insane, drinking outside year round, golfing year round, not having to freeze in my car in the morning on the way to work, not having to look at disgusting brown melting snow piles right now, etc. Yeah I miss my home but its pretty awesome other places!
I used to do customer service for spectrum. People would call in from across the nation and they would often ask me about myself. When they found out I was from Green Bay I’d always make sure to tell them that it’s actually illegal to not be a Packers fan here, and I know of at least 3 people who were arrested for it. The amount of people who believed me was shocking lol
You guys in the comments and the uploader of the video are so sweet. From a GB resident, thank you for the attention! We arent the most perfect, theres still plenty to do. But we try. Come visit or become a resident, you'll too will love it.

I'm from California. Grew up there since 81. Moved up here in 95. Moved back to CA in 2014. Ran back in 2015 because it's 1000% worst in CA. Lol. I actually miss the 4 seasons and the GREEN grass. Just don't go to North Milwaukee. No no.
great work Nick. i say this with respect and love, i can tell you're not a Badger, this has been a baby winter. Down here in SW Wisconsin, same deal. Folks will help one another, we got to....travel safe brother
Wisconsinites have a special connection with our cows. We know our cheese is special, our milk is special. Our crops. We all live off our own land more or less through all the stores here. We are a very unique state.
Lovely!! California was once like that. Many midwest people migrated to California farm land and brought those values with them. The 70s brought a different value system with people moving here. Now were just a crap hole. 😢 People who have NO IDEA how much work it takes to grow, harvest, slaughter 3 meals a day. Makes me shudder how gluttonous people think a meal is easy from a drive thru!!

Might be the American Dream to me ❤
This winter was way too warm. I was barely able to ice fish down here in southern WI. Anyways, we moved here about a decade ago. It was the best place for us to earn well and the cost of living is low.
Growing up in Wisconsin built a solid foundation for me. Moving to California allowed me to expand my knowledge of different people and expand my fun time outdoors 😎
Ever think of leaving California unless you got ttooonnnsss of money to afford living there. Average cost of homes is wweellll above the national average of $426,000 there as well as rent.

@@Ian_L1994 The weather in this state is not as severe as you think, it can be worse. Google the weather in Russia (Yakutia) and you will understand that Wisconsin is heaven and not hell.
The secret of Green Bay is it barely has over 100,000 in population. I think everyone was out working when you went to downtown Green Bay on a Wednesday. With having the historical NFL Packers franchise as a charter member/Titletown it gives the “impression” of Green Bay this much larger city - but it’s still got its beauty and small town feel and building/rebuilding into the 21st century holding its own. Did you go to The Sardine Can on a late afternoon or evening? It’ll be busy there! But you gotta go to the bars after hours and on weekends.
@@Battleneter True. I was speaking obviously of solely GB’s city limits population, but sure you can metroize its surrounding suburbs like DePere that Nick briefly touched upon among others he didn’t but should have.
From Arkansas but now live in New York. I lived in Wisconsin for one year. Fantastic people, slow pace, big on sports, amazing weather in the summer, smells nice throughout, and easy going life. Too slow for me but sometimes I long for how little those folks were in a hurry.
Once again, an accurate portrayal, Nick! One day in the late 1960's, some of us from Appleton (about 30 miles up the Fox River from Green Bay) drove down to Green Bay. It was a warmish, humid day, so the paper mills' aroma was intense. One of us remarked that it smelled like a really bad social disease. A passerby on the the street turned to us and shrieked, "That's the sweet smell of success!" Green Bay Pride.
I had the same thing happen in Kaukauna...Thilmany paper mill smelled so bad when I moved there. I voiced my opinion and was told, "That's the smell of money".
@@petuniasevan We spent 1971-1973 in Kaukauna and heard the same thing! Everyone in the town had to have their car repainted every two or three years because of the pollution - I guess the Kaukauna air is cleaner now, though.

Moved back to Green Bay to help out my aging parents a few years back. Man, I missed this place! Affordable, safe, and friendly. It felt like _home_ again. Not as exciting as the big city, but it just feels right. Like, I can relax and live in peace.
I'm from Chicago, and live in Wisconsin!I'm so happy we ended up living out here.
I'm from Chicago also & moved to Wisconsin 3 years ago & absolutely love it 💚💛💚💛
I’m from Minnesota and as soon as I cross the bridge into the land of small town bars and cheese curds I totally relax..

Thanks for driving by our store on Broadway!! We love Green Bay!
You can tell!
Wow a good American city. I’m happy for them

Soooo close! Congrats! You’ve earned every single one of us (and the Mrs) 💞
Lol.
I❤cold weather places
Keeps the sh t heads away😂
What does it make me a native Illinoisan now living in Florida?
Not all cold places, lol. It's all about culture, morals, and good policies/leadership. For example, Alaska is considered the most dangerous state of America, Last time I checked. It is unfortunate how far most of America has fallen but hopefully we can hold on to the good places we have left (and fix the culture and leadership in the many places that have fallen to a not caring society)
Californians are not moving there. So it shouldn't get ruined.
9 o’clock in the morning in this town people are working
Its not that cold and summers are 7 months
@@DanielDahl-i9pNope. Nope. Summer 3 months.

Thanks for another well produced video.
As a native Wisconsinite I can attest it is a great state! Just get rid of Milwaukee & Madison & we're all set 😎
Ya notice
In usa
Nearly every state has a large city dragging it down
Ruining it
Pennsylvania philadelphia
Michigan detroit
Illinois Chicago
Etc etc
Thank you Nick J I've been watching you for bout 2 years I'm a born raised Marquette Girl Thanks for coming Plus spent 23years in Green Bay
I appreciate what you do Plus Love Mappy❤️
Let's hope Green Bay stays nice like this.. 🤞🏻
Milwaukee I would say is effortlessly cool, amazing old-World architecture. Also love the unglaciated Driftless region of western WI ( also stretching well into Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois). My wife called Appalachia like the Driftless region on steroids.
I loved Nick’s Michigan report. “Keep up the good work and keeping it real!”
We moved to Green Bay from the West Coast and we absolutely love it! What a wonderful city! Midwest is the best!
Central Wisconsin and we're getting snow now..haven't had any all winter 😂
My parents are near Lake Michigan. No school, and snow! We had a tornado watch, and storms here in the south.
Lifelong Clark County Wisconsinite here😁
A few inches of snow in Marshfield yesterday into today - it’s already 🫠 melting!🤣
Me to. Snow in Winneconne..
Don't feel bad, cinzo7238!--about a week ago we got slammed with 40 inches in Colorado!-this time of year, it just greens everything up real nice.
Mappe's looking dapper and classy..sporting that Lions hat!💙
As truck driver from Illinois I have to say that l love driving in Wisconsin
Heart of America baby
Mappy is awesome....he tells it as it is...no BS!!
Madison WI is one of my favorite cities. The people are nice and friendly. Great neighborhoods and has that beautiful lake. I will definitely visit again.
Same here
Madison isn't nearly as good as it used to be. Too many kids now getting free school lunch. Machete attack a few months back... shootings, which almost never happened back in 80s and 90s... usual suspects.
It's always been progressive but the city government today is woke as fuck. I think they're jealous of Milwaukee.
Into woke are we?
Madison’s a LOT more “liberal” and lefty leaning than Green Bay which is further north into real farm country and Northwoods. Madison’s a nice 21st century, aesthetic and culturally diverse city though. Depending on what one likes culturally.
Which lake? There's 4 of them
You should check out Doc's Harley-Davidson in Bonduel, WI. You won't be disappointed.
Yes!! Thank you!!
You're right, literally everyone is nice here and I'm never leaving
I grew up in Greenbay in the 90's It was great Bike trails fishing swimming at the parks visited the Neville museum tons of times. No cell phones back then mom and dad just said be home by the time the street lights came on. Boy were those the days.
The Northwoods is the best!!! This is coming from a native Texan! Plus the people are wonderful!!
Check out the Fox River when Walleye season starts. You can walk across the river without touching water because every boat in the state is on it. Musky fishing or Deer Hunting in the North is a right of passage.
Born and raised Fox Valley resident. Its a great family place and a short trip to up north by the lakes and some great outdoor recreation.
Wisconsin does dairy❤The Best in the US
Nice job describing GB Nick!
That mappy bit was an all time great mappy momment as a Lions fan.
Mappy shouldn't be talking smack on the Pack wearing a Lions hat. And does he have an open carry permit? That's probably the rifle he used to kill Bambi.
As a Vikings fan, I have to agree. I actually burst out laughing when Mappy dropped that line.
If you come to Milwaukee I can show you around been here a long time
Ok Dave!
Man what a place! I wish the rest of America was loke Green Bay..
So Wisconsin is the state for Norweigans and Minnesota for the Swedes?
🤔 we're mostly German here.
Green Bay, what a nice place. You commented on how dead downtown was. Probably everyone was at home with their families. Just like it should be.
It's Wednesday?
I was born 1990 in Nekoosa,WI. The bar culture is still there but ppl drink less cause we all got dui’s and kids. Lacrosse is the best area to live.
Wow. I also just noticed that you are closing in on one meeellion subs. That is incredible!
Tried to have 1 beer in every bar on Broadway in my college years (70's). Couldn't do it.
😂facts
We used to call them death marches. Also Main St was a great place to try your luck.
Nick, I've gotta say it. Your channel is the one I look forward to the most in my subscriptions! Keep up the awesome work!!
Aww Heather ❤️❤️❤️
Welcome to the good old Midwest Nick! Plain and boring. No Hurricanes, earthquakes, homeless hoardes, volcanoes or climate change issues (the Lake freezes over some years and others not, the levels always fluctuate up and down 10 ft., climate change hype). Best fishing in the world. More beer than you can drink and enough cheese to lock you up for a lifetime. We love it here FIB and cheesedick alike. Stable healthy lifestyle.
It does seem nice there in GreenBay, I like it! 👍
still lovng the mappy interactions
Correction - Packers have most NFL Titles, not Super Bowls
The Steelers and Patriots have the most Super Bowls but the Steelers got to 6 Super Bowls first
That would be the New England Patriots my friend. 🏈

The one upside of cold AF weather--it's an effective repellant against homeless people.
Love this reason about winters!! Thank you!!
And mosquitoes, no see-ums, huge cock roaches and flies. Also snakes, geckos and armadillos. Cleaner.
fun fact: Green Bay is the same latitude as Montreal
Born and raised in Wisconsin. Still a resident. I'm 35. I live in Fond du Lac, a little over an hour away from Green Bay. Although I'm not even a fan of the long winters here, the absolutely beautiful springs/summers make up for it!! Oh, and the CHEEEEESE! 🤤
Better than those California cows.

Greetings from Switzerland everyone. Eyeing Nick's videos for some time now. As my fellow Europeans somehow managing to turn Europe to shits moving to the US becomes more and more alluring to me. Well, not the west coast. Maybe, neither the south. Anyhow, Wisconsin seems a possible home to me. With beer and cheese and good people. Even a New Glarus after the old one in Switzerland.
Thanks Nick!!!

It has been the warmest winter in Wisconsin I've ever seen. Not a good year to base weather on for us.
Yr right! Usually winter means cheek clamping cold!!!!! Haha!!!
I live very close to Green Bay, I love that town and have had many important life events there.
Metro area is 300K, which is still small. I only look at the metro area stats, shows the true size of any city.
Good explanation
@Battleneter yeah but Green Bay metro includes parts of oconto county which really has nothing to do with GB at all though either
@@Battleneter True. I was speaking obviously of solely GB’s city limits population, but sure you can metroize its surrounding suburbs like DePere that Nick briefly touched upon among others he didn’t but should have.
@@kylegross1081 Exactly! Kinda the “farm country” Nick briefly touched on.
im just saying come back in July when downtown is popping with farmers markets and live music!
From Arkansas but now live in New York. I lived in Wisconsin for one year. Fantastic people, slow pace, big on sports, amazing weather in the summer, smells nice throughout, and easy going life. Too slow for me but sometimes I long for how little those folks were in a hurry.
Don't you miss us? Be real, you do.
@@petuniasevan my mom worked at Thilmany. She always bring that smell home. The car smelled of it too. I just got used to it. Eventually just didn’t bother me anymore. 😆
Appleton is south of GB. You didn't drive down to GB.
@@theresa_lili They are referring to "downriver" as in the Fox River flows from Lake Winnebago to Green Bay. Keep in mind that the person who wrote that LIVES in Appleton and would hardly mix up north and south.
