The Parent Trap was released in the summer of 1961 and was met with critical acclaim. The New York Times praised Hayley Mills 'cheerfully persuasive performance'. While Variety calls it a 'winner' despite being 'absolutely predictable from the outset. Once again, Mills' performance was lauded as being one of the film's most significant strengths. The outlet noted that Mills' instinctive sense of comedy and uncanny ability to react in precisely the right manner contributed to the film's overall appeal. The film was about two identical twin sisters who were separated at birth and are reunited at summer camp. The film starred Hayley Mills as both twins, Susan Evers as the other twin's mother, Maureen O'Hara as the girls' grandmother, and Brian Keith as their father.

You forgot to mention a very important actor who doubled for Hayley Mills in The Parent Trap. Susan Henning, you only saw back, distant and half side shots in the film. She won an award the Duckster only one of the three awards from Disney. She was sadly uncredited in the film. She is alive and well at this time 2022.

@@sue450 Paul Henning was an important TV producer in the 1950's and 1960's. I went to school at Campbell Hall, a parochial school in Studio City, CA, with his children, Linda and Tony Henning. They were about 4-5 years older than I was. Linda grew up to star in Petticoat Junction, using Linda Kaye as her professional name. As a teenager, Linda acted on stage in a local theater group, where I saw her perform. Susan Henning's mother, Golden Henning, was a film actress. I suspect a family relationship between Susan and Golden with the Paul Henning family, but I cannot find one on the internet. Thank you for mentioning Susan Henning.
I had no idea Joanna Barnes passed away this year. She was so good in the Parent Trap, the villain, both her and her mother. Loved this flick and can watch it again and again.
I loved Haley in The Trouble with Angels. A delightful movie about a troubled girl who finds peace and acceptance in a convent.
A young lady that was a stand in for the shots of the backs of the twins interacting was given a “Mousecar” statuette by Walt Disney for her role in the movie.

My mom took me to the movies to go see “The Parent Trap” when I was a child, and I instantly had a crush on Haley Mills. For the longest time I thought Haley Mills was a real twin, and it was years before I realized that Haley Mills was playing herself as a twin…lol !
I saw the movie at a driven theatre, it was very romantic for Haley and I. I doubt she remembers. Then I saw her in That Darn Cat, but a few year's later I fell in love with Katherine Ross in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I'm still in love with Katherine Ross.
My parents took me to see this movie at the drive in and I always enjoyed Hayley Mills I would always ask my parents questions about the movies and they were always honest with me and told me the truth as best they could and told me that she was playing two roles and they told me to enjoy the movies and they would answer my questions at home it sure worked out nicely! This is one of my favorite movies!😃😍

You might have mentioned Hayley's leading and critically acclaimed roles in "Tiger Bay" and "The Flame Trees of Thika.," and that it was her astonishing role as Pollyanna that defined not only Hayley herself as a star, but also defined an everlasting idiom.
Oh, I think Joana Barnes is really going to be remembered a bit more for playing Gloria Upson in Auntie Mame!! That role was iconic!

Fact. Verse seems to always miss the iconic role of an actor. Perhaps that is due to the youth of those compiling these videos. They really need an older person who has experienced the more famous films and knows a thing or two about quality film of the last 60 years.
Nice presentation! Charles Ruggles was the narrator voice for “Fractured Fairytales” part of the Bullwinkle & Rocky cartoon show in the 1960s. Haley Mills was in a drama series in the 1980s and she was part of the pilot and original cast of Saved By The Bell, TV show. Also while the clip from the movie was shown, it wasn’t mentioned that Joanna Barnes was in the classic movie “Auntie Mame” with Rosalind Russell. Also, Walt Disney was very picky about his films and the way he did contracts. Next to Annette Funetccello, Haley Mills was the only star given a traditional movie contract. After Disney she like Annette went on to star in notable films. For Annette it was the beach theme movies with Frankie Avalon and for Haley it was “The Trouble with Angles” with Rosalind Russell. Hayley Mills was the star in the movie "Pollyanna." Agnes Moorehead was in that movie too.

If you’ve never seen her in Endless Night (1972), you may enjoy it. It’s an Agatha Christie story- it’s very 70s and weird.
I loved watching Hayley Mills in the movie "That Darn Cat!" I was just a young girl when that movie was at the theaters. I had a bracelet from that movie. It had siamese cats and the logo "That Darn Cat" on it.
Sad to think Haley is the only one surviving now. Time certainly goes by fast. May the others RIP. Thankful for this great movie.

I loved this movie. And I love the remake as well. I was blown away when I originally found out that there was only one girl playing the part of two girls in the original movie. I’m not sure when I found out. But I remember it was quite some time ago. I didn’t think they had the technology to do that in the 1960’s when they were supposed to be talking to each other.
Hayley Mills also starred in the Disney show Good Morning, Miss Bliss, the show that would become Saved By the Bell.

Brian Keith was the son of Robert Keith, probably best known as the family patriarch who gets his revenge against his nasty family in the classic Twilight Zone episode, "The Masks," which was directed by Ida Lupino.
And Charles Ruggles is probably best known as the voice of Aesop in the Aesop & Son shorts on the Rocky & Bullwinkle Show.

The one with Lindsay Lohan was okay considering that it's updated. I did enjoy the late Natasha Richardson's performance as Lindsay's mother. Rest in peace.
This movie is my favorite. I've watched it no less than 300 times. Most recently 2 days ago. My daughter and I know every line for every character 😂🤣

I'm a bit younger than you, but as a kid, my crushes too were about this age (when I was 6-12 or so). Jennifer Thanisch (Anne from the Famous Five (the 70s version, not the 90s version), Holly English (the 1st actress to play Edison in Supergran), and Jessica Prentice (Pepper from Powerhouse) come to mind. Canada had great international television-I just realised that those two shows are English, Scottish, and from the States! (And none from Canada!) I guess if I had to think of the prettiest girl from a Canadian show, Marnie McPhail comes to mind from the Edison twins.

Joanna also was in the movie The War Wagon with Kirk Douglas and John Wayne. She was the gal in the saloon playing poker with Douglas.
I love the original version of The Parent Trap a whole lot more than the remake.

I respectfully disagree. The original is great too, but IMHO the remake with Lindsey Lohan and Dennis Quaid is even better! Lohan did well with Disney remakes, as her remake of Freaky Friday with Jamie Lee Curtis and Mark Harmon is MUCH better than the original Jodie Foster version.

Hard to pick my favorite actor/actress in the huge hit "The Parent Trap" which I've seen several times. Loved those famous very successful Disney Haley Mills movies in the 1960s in my teens and also loved her father, the late great Sir John Mills and his fabulous famous British films! Do watch him with the late great Sir Alec Guiness, another famous Brit actor in the classic "Great Expectations" by British author Charles Dickens! A superb film! Sad about Brian Keith, but I don't totally agree with the late great gorgeous Maureen O'Hara! Keith , son of actor Robert Keith from the Golden Age of Hollywood, had just lost his only daughter Daisy to suicide, I believe. It wasn't long after that Brian took his own life also due to cancer! A double tragedy! Loved Joanna Barnes, another fabulous, beautiful actress! She was wonderful in "The Parent Trap" as well as other veteran character actors/actresses! I think along with many others that the classic "Hunchback of Notre Dame" when Maureen was 18 years old with the late great British actor Charles Laughton was and is a real masterpiece including it's musical score! I'll also never forget watching Maureen on Larry King when she was 84 years old! She still had gorgeous Irish red hair, beautiful fair Irish flawless skin and her voice was as strong and youthful sounding as when she was young! She didn't have the shakey old voice that most people think of about older people in their 80s! May those who have passed over to "The Other Side", all rest in peace~

Brian Keith was also in the Star Trek DS9 episode "Progress"
There are lots of cast members still left the campers count and many are still alive. Also Brian Keith died shortly after his daughter Daisy died of a self inflicted gunshot wound. Her father gifted her the gun and he died using the same gun.
My favorite characters are Susan and Sharon because they try everything to get their parents back together so they can be a full family
I've always loved Brian Keith and Maureen O'Hara. Haley Mills is a wonderful actress. Coming from a situation of divorced parents and living with my Dad....I had lots of Vicki's try! 😂😂😂 I was worse than the twins combined. I still love watching this movie.

For got the quality of the cast. Always liked Mills in whatever role. Of course she came from theatrical family. John Mills a favorite, too.

Why do you guys always get facts wrong. You'd think after a while you would check your info more carefully. Joanna Barn's Vicky Robinson in the Parent Trap DID NOt marry a father with twins, it never got that far. She was engaged to a father with twins. And that was boken off after a camping trip.
Isn't that what the narrator said? I'm pretty sure that he said that Vicky did not marry the twins's father.
Daughter had also died and he couldn't deal with it I think that's another big factor in the way I took his own life

You are wrong. Susan Henning-Schutte, who played the other twin, is 75 years old and still alive.

Henning was not credited for the movie, because Walt Disney wanted to create an illusion. Henning was just as much as a cast member as anyone else in the movie. Disney paid her extra to not have her name in the credits. When the twins were shown both from the front, it's Mills twice with a split screen. When you see one facing forward and the other facing backwards, the one facing forward is Mills and the one facing backwards is Henning.

This isn't quite accurate that there is only one surviving cast member. Susan Henning (the stand-in) still lives. As Yoda says, "Always two there are. No more-no less"

I had a 45 record in the 1960s. It had songs that Hayley Mills sang on it. Two of the songs were from the movie "The Parent Trap." On the back of the sleeve it said very clearly that Hayley Mills played both twins. Anyone who says otherwise is flat out lying.

@@Ouch_TheseAreTheDaysOfElijah I played a twin once. It was the title role in Toho Pictures immortal classic 'Godzilla's Grandmother'. I had to wear a babushka. My identical twin was played by an actual giant lizard who refused to don the headdress. He mainly relied on method acting. Luckily my name was in the credits, unlike poor Susan Henning and the guy who played Flipper.
