It's too bad that Disney channel dose not show movies from the past any more but you can find most of them on Disney plus. You all show watch there old movies to get a better understanding how movies where made back then and they are better then the remakes.

    I’m impressed by how the clothing they wore fed into the color scheme. Which came first? Maureen O’Hara’s sapphire blue skirt and green blouse perfectly mimicked the blue green glass vases, and the stained glass beyond (even the curved shapes 😉). In the dining room, the blue-gray side furniture is seen in Brian Keith’s blue gray trousers, and later, his denim outfit.

    The mystery room.
    Spanish homes in years past often had their own chapels, a generational home most certainly.
    The family lands were vast, so running into town each Sunday wasn’t a thing. Holidays and special events might warrant a trip.
    The home chapel would be a place for learning for kids, a meditation area for the devout, a place to mourn and view a loved one before burial, etc.
    Quite a multi use room.

    I just discovered your channel (through the miracle of algorithms) and I love it! I watched this movie many times as a young girl, in the 60’s and 70’s, and always loved this house. I was always fascinated when the housekeeper walked Sharon to her room, going upstairs on that beautiful, tiled split staircase, but then they had to walk outside and across the landing above the courtyard to get to her room. I was SO fascinated with the idea of going to a summer camp after I saw "The Parent Trap." Of course we had been on family camping trips but I wanted to go to a camp like the girls went to. I pestered my parents for two years and they finally relented in 1968. I went to a 10 day CYA camp in Occidental, California. I loved practically every minute of it. We had the co-ed dance just like in the movie. That first year my parents let me go because I wanted to go, but after that they sent me every year so THEY could have a vacation from me. LOL

    Thank you for sharing this. I use to dream about living in that house when i was a little girl. I grew up with 2 rotten brothers and wanted a sister so badly. I always wanted to be Haley Mills in the patent trap. This is the ultimate house. When i think of how i want my house to be i always think of this set.
    Not sure if you would be up for it or even think it was worth the time but would doing the Boston home interest you at all. Be kinda neat to compare and contrast the two homes as far as the feel....the elegant yet stuffy Boston home. I know it's not nearly as adventurous as the ranch home. I guess i have just always loved this movie so much it's one i wish i could walk into and just look around and say "wow this is the life." Sorry i know all that sounds so corny. But heck with the way things are today why not dive into our thoughts and spent a little time as the kid inside all of us. Thank you so much for this. Looking forward to the next video. 💙💙💙

      That’s what I always thought! -I feel that they mean it to evoke as Santa Barbara, even though they call it Monterey.

    • @pattimessenger6214
      @pattimessenger6214 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Even if they meant it to evoke Santa Barbara, you need to close the doors and turn on the heater sometimes. I live even farther south in Southern California. Orange County. The only time I feel the need to fling open doors and windows is late spring and early summer. In fall, winter and early spring, you have cold, occasionally freezing weather. Especially at night. Late summer and early fall, you can have temperatures soar, sometimes to the triple digits. Then you are seeking air conditioning, of course, with solid doors and therma pane windows closed.
      I have a unique insight to the ranch setting of this movie, as my hubby and I own a ranch in the San Bernardino mountains, about an hour and a half drive east of Los Angeles. Only 42 acres, but completely surrounded by National Forest. There, we not only keep doors and windows closed to keep the mosquitos and ticks and other bitey things away, but to keep the animals out, often unsuccessfully. Ground squirrels can chew through any part of your house they want to get at your delicious cat food, pantry stores, and anything they want to use for bedding. Rodents of all shapes and sizes get into the house. And, these rodents are a food source for snakes. We have found rattlesnakes in the house on three separate occasions!
      We have had bears break in twice. Can you imagine what a bear would do to a refrigerator? It ain’t pretty!
      The point I’m getting out is that this house in the movie is stunning, and I love it! I have always loved it. But it’s half inside, half outside character is highly impractical. Brian Keith may have thrived in that in environment, but you wouldn’t want your baby daughter, insect bitten, playing with rattlesnakes, befriending bears in the kitchen.

    • @Allan-et5ig
      @Allan-et5ig 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pattimessenger6214 Interesting comments Patti. Of course, presumably with the money Brian Keith is stated to have (a million or more? at least a million) steps could be taken to mitigate animal visitors - but as you say, you can't eliminate them - ever. I live in Washington state and own a fair chunk of property and a wolf/coyote hybrid visited. No way short of daily hunting to prevent such visits.
      Final remark is about Monterey, CA. (I lived about 1.5 hours away for years.) Countless tourists have noticed how depressing Monterey becomes, very quickly. 90 minutes at the beach and you're done. I mean done as in check out of your hotel, early. I have no idea why. The locals, including the large military presence, also comment on it. But in 1961, California was the place to be and the locales were exotic.

    Love this and that was one of my favorite Hayley Mills movies! My favorite room was always that kitchen which was so large and spacious and modern. Always thought it looked out into the outdoor property and didn't realize that it looked out into a courtyard, but my attention was also so into the great plot and acting, I didn't pay that much attention to that detail! I have an art background and studied costume design and some interior design in NYC before becoming a professional fashion illustrator there in the late 1960s so I have a sharp eye for movie sets and costumes right down to the last button! Did you know that art director Cedric Gibbons designed over 1000 movie sets during the Golden Age of Hollywood in the 1930s and 40s? I've also noticed how art directors use the color red in many movies here and there as well! Thanks for sharing this!

    This was my ideal home... when I saw the Parent Trap... that wonderful Hispanic influence and all of those arches. The only other TV home I ever really liked was the Ponderosa! Not tiny by any means... sprawling, roomy, free, open, everything I love in a house. Even better if all on one level with bedrooms downstairs too.

    The Parent Trap house is beautiful, but I would want all my rooms in a single space. I'm from Chicago, and that my feed my preferences, but I'm thinking, "If I woke up in the middle of the night, I wouldn't want to go outside to go to the kitchen." If I were a native Californian, maybe I would feel better. The other problem with an indoor/outdoor living space for me would be to have outdoor creatures indoors. You're right about the color design and how it's used, but WOW! I'd rather have my outdoor and indoor distinctive of each other. I have seen patios walled off outdoors to give the effect that they are part of the indoor, but needing to literally go outside to go to the kitchen seems odd. Again, I'm from Chicago.

    • @MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane
      @MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get what you're saying about having to go outside to get to the kitchen. It looks so cool, but wouldn't be practical no matter the climate. However, when I finish this next episode, part 2 of the Parent Trap, I'm going to show ways it could be remedied.

    I do love these virtual tours, and I loved any movie with Maureen O'Hara; Brian Kieth or Haley Mills! I love Bewitched and also the inspiration movies "Bell Book and Candle"and "I married a witch". You have really done a great job.
    Recently I have bing watched the Walton's Series and tried to picture the house (inside and out); the layout of the House, shed, barn and the Mill (later seasons). Also the road between The local Store and the Walton house appears to have changed in many direction over the course of the nine seasons. I think this would be a big task, but I would love to take a virtual tour. (Note: Big difference from the house in the pilot movie 'The Homecoming')
    Keep up the good work!!
