I grew up on Lindsay's version of The Parent Trap and I absolutely loved it. I learned years later that there was an original one and watched it. Love both versions for different reasons. It takes alot of talent to pull of dual roles the way both actresses did. Much respect.
I did the same, and while I watched the original version, I saw and heard things that were similar to the ‘98 version, but different characters and personalities shown throughout. It really was such great fun to see their comparisons and how much they differed between each other, based on the year and actors shown.
It's strange because I'm 23 and I grew up with the original version and still to this day have never seen the Lindsay Lohan remake. One day I'll have to, just to compare.
Haley’s performance was so genuine to me as a kid I hoped to find my long lost twin. The next best thing happened years later when I became a mom of twins.
I think you can here a slightly more American accent when she's trying to do the California accent. I wonder why they didn't have one girl be from England like the second movie, since Hayley was british.
She sounds very well-balanced, seems modest and regular -- I just hope that somewhere in there she really realizes how utterly fabulous she was and that the whole world was in love with her...and she was a superb young actress.
Hayley Mills rendition of "Parent Trap" was one of my favorites (Lindsay Lohan's move was also great). It's great to see her talk about her role in the Disney Movie.
Wow, Hayley Mills still looks more beautiful than ever! I Love the British people! But when I watched it many years ago, I had no idea she was British! She is just a delight to behold as ever!
Hayley Mills work on that film was so impeccable. Her distinction of characters was so clear that you just thought it was really two different people. Especially when she played one girl pretending to be the other girl. That was just so good because you could tell it was Susan uncomfortably impersonating Sharon. And you could tell that it was Sharon trying to learn how to let (what was left of) her hair down so that she could convincingly impersonate Susan. I work with young performers and I always point them to The parent trap so that they can see some high-quality acting chops and understand that really good acting is not determined by one's age or even experience in the industry.
I will always cherish the original 1961 film The Parent Trap, as I was experiencing the same thing in my childhood, at the time I first was watched the movie (many years later after its release). Hayley Mills was perfectly cast, as was Brian Keith and Maureen O'Hara.
My first hayley movie and I was enchanted. Love her to this day and I think she is a lovely modest person. Adored her early movies. Her career halted in her 20s with some bad choices but her talent remains
I fell in love with the 1998 version and then years later when I was able to watch the original version I fell in love with that one too, they’re both my absolute favorite movies of all time❤️❤️
One of the reasons that makes Hayley Mills so incomparable is that when you're watching any of her films, one feels that they are her character; that they are experiencing whatever she is. She draws you in that much with her natural ability and it's wonderful and it's fun... There is nothing fake about Hayley
Thank you Hayley Mills for all of the joy you brought to me in my childhood! I’ve loved all of your movies! The 60’s were a magical time for me. I had wonderful parents; the best really. And my children watched Saved By the Bell. I’m guessing the name here. Miss Bliss? Ok, I had to go look it up after to make sure, lol. Full disclosure 😂. Hayley Mills made wonderful movies. Pollyanna comes to mind as just one of so many. Many thanks for this video. What a blessing!💝
The Parent Trap with Haley Mills was such a favorite movie of mine growing up. I was 5 or 6 when it came out so I probably watched it when it was on TV. So many wonderful movies that Haley Mills did that I loved, Moon Spinners another favorite. She is a spectacular actress.
I love the Hayley Mills version the best. Hayley Mills was one of my favorite actresses. I am so glad Walt Disney got her to act in a few of his movies.
Have always been a huge fan of Hayley Mills…..loved every movie she was in. And her name…..had never heard of anyone named Hayley when I was growing up in the 60s & 70s. Loved it so much I named my daughter Hayley!!
I vividly remember being so young and watching The Parent Trap '98 quite a lot, and became so surprised that there was one made in the '61, that was almost similar to '98. I've got to admit that in the remake, I was disappointed that Mills didn't make a cameo (I would've pictured her as one of the Camp Counselors), or that it wasn't dedicated to Brian Keith, but while I'm very much a fan of Lohan's performance in '98, I still admire how it was put together with Mills, in the original. After all, like Lohan, Mills should get praise too, just like how she beautifully praised '98.
Haley Mills you were terrific in everything. I especially love “Pollyanna” and the glad games. But another fav movie of mine was “The Family Way” which you were in with your Dad and Hewel Bennet and Marjorie Rhodes. And Paul McCartney’s movie score is simply beautiful. There is something about that movie that really touches me.

That episode is one of a few I adored. Hayley, you were phenomenal in the movie. After seeing the movie, I tried to convince my mother that me and my sister were twins. I'm sure you miss Brian Keith.
I’m surprised Hayley enjoyed the 90’s remake! I grew up with it more so then the original. But I love them just the same. Cannot believe it’s been 60 years since she played Sharon and Susan! But as she says in the TV sequel, feels like a hundred years ago.

I remember when my mother took me to see the 1998 version in the theater. I was born in 1985 but I grew up watching Hayley Mills in The parent trap over and over again and literally had the entire movie memorized, as I do now. I have always had an issue with not wanting to betray my nostalgia so I didn't even want to go see the 1998 version because I told my mother that the original Parent Trap was my favorite. She told me that it may surprise me and since I love the first one so much I should give this a chance since it's the same story. I set there so upset because my heart was softening and I was falling in love with the 1998 version as well. We watch all the credits so we were in there when the last credits ran. After everything was completely done in the lights came up, I asked my mother what she thought of the film. She said that she enjoyed it and it was different enough to actually stand on its own, where you did not have to know about the first film to see it, but at the same time it was standing on the shoulders of the Hayley Mills version. She said she thought it was excellent. I felt betrayed! LOL.. I asked her how she could even like this one when we like the first one? But over time I learned it to give in. Now I have two versions of The Parent Trap memorized
I love this movie and grew up watching it at least once a week. When I was 18 I got in touch with my birth little brother in Russia where I was born and learned that I have a twin. I was shocked. Her and I felt like something was missing and we were both confused about how our birth family gave me up and kept her, then in 08 my birth mother died, my birth father was a drunk, he put her up for adoption when she was 14. I wish I had known of her my whole life but I’m grateful to have her now.
