Wow! The more I looked at this, the more impressed I was. I'm glad you're able to pick this up for your collection and feature in one of your videos so that we could see it into all its glory. And I'm blown away that the box was as clean and crisp looking as it was after seeing that mailer so beat up. 🤯
Really considering picking one of these up now. I love this style of playset, and seeing how it looks in your display case really ups the appeal for me as well.
Something about seeing the vintage style box really gives me the feels. Same way as when I pick up any vintage Kenner box items. Can't get enough of that for sure.
I think you should grab this one, man. It's super cool. And fits right in with the rest of the Kenner collection. The box art on this is just as cool as the playset itself. Paleetoys crushed it with this set!

Dude, thanks for sharing this, I wasn't aware that this custom set existed and it's great! This really does hit the mark when it comes to triggering those old feelings of opening up something like the Cantina or Land of the Jawas sets for the first time.

Here in OKC, the antique and coop stores are a gold mine. Anyways, looking forward to more content. My big thing right now is homemade custom displays for toys, trading cards and comics. And who isn’t a sucker for good periodicals. Just ordered a Star Wars playboy. For the articles. 🤣 time, Newsweek, mad and life mags are coming.

Wow! That box has been through the Kessle Run or something. My heart sinks when I get a box like that. You are so blessed that the box inside is in good shape.
Paleetoy does amazing work here! That's next level custom, fan-made stuff here. I wish something like this had existed back in the 70's or 80's. I would have loved to have something like that. I didn't get the Death Star set from Kenner, but I would have been just as happy with this one.
The box is indeed impressive. Worth keeping. The die cut stickers are impressive in and of themselves. I like that it comes with an instruction sheet.
If someone had the Palitoy Death Star, putting this Detention Center next to it would fit right in and look amazing.
Yes, looks like vacuform plastic. Glad that it feels durable. Palitoy used a lot of vacuform instead of injection molding to cut down cost back in the day.
I love the tractor beam scene, so I'd have loved to have this to recreate that scene with something this authentic looking. I used old thread spools that I painted black and silver back in the day.
I was impatient in putting on stickers as a 5, 6, 7 year old kid back then too. Some of my vehicles from back then have the stickers a bit crooked and some are not in the official spots, especially on the Falcon. I didn't have very good eyesight when I was little, so I probably couldn't have put them on perfectly if I had tried. Gives these toys from my childhood more charm anyway.
I''ll check this playset out. I may never have a Death Star playset, but even this one would be awesome!

The basic format for early playsets was a plastic base and then a cardboard backdrop which worked just fine.
It’s incredibly simple but super effective. Nice to see these coming back!

I am familiar whit the playset. Bud stil a nice piece for the collectors. Sadly i havent place for that set.
Display space is everything in this game. I hear ya, pal.
It looks pretty good, but IMO I think that the area that's used for the tractor beam control cone should've instead been the cell that Leia was being held in held in. After all, the tractor beam control was on the original Kenner DS. With the cell area you'd be able to re-enact the famous " Aren't you a little short for a Stormtrooper?" scene.

The tractor beam control was on the Kenner version,not the Palitoy version. That's what this is for.

Looks awesome! I love the packaging especially. I bought an exterior Mos Eisley cutout for my Jabba's Palace/Sail Barge diorama. It's a great transition between the palace and the desert sands of the Great Pit of Carkoon out in the Dune Sea. I even picked up a Ronto for the "street" transition area. I don't like most of the Special Edition additions, but the Ronto's were pretty cool. Thanks for the video!

Ok it's made by some one who doesn't have the rights to make the toy so it's "bootleg" you can't just make things if you don't have the rights to do so.
People make custom stuff all day long. But because this particular thing comes in a box and wasn't made in someone's garage, it's "bootleg" to you and you have a problem with it. Why are you bothering to comment? You sound like one of those snooty, elitist Facebook group members, who freaks out if something isn't deemed original by their standards. Thus condemning everyone else from enjoying said toy. Get over it. It's a toy. Bootleg or not, does it really matter? Hasbro owns Kenner and Paleetoy has been around for awhile.
