What a nice play set.
Simple and cheap to manufacture but also provides a good platform for desert adventures.
I hope one day to get one as well!!!
I hope you get one as well! 🙌🏼
@@thepadawancollectorofficial Thank you, brother !!
I'd definitely go to the friend's house who had the cantina's play set.
Then you are a better man than I! Thanks for watching my friend and I hope all is well in your world :)
I always thought that set was really cool looking, never collected it though. But, I loved how they re- salvaged it for the Hoth Ice Planet Adventure Set🙌.. just love ESB and the snow ❄️😂❄️ That's why I prefer to collect playsets opened, complete than sealed, I want to play with it😂 enjoy that bro ✊😎👊
I know exactly what you mean Scott! Some playsets that I have gotten have been sealed and I just want to buy another just to have a version to play with lol
I need a "Land of the Jawas"
playset in my life. :)
Haha indeed! Thanks for watching T!
Such an interesting story behind this playset. Well done on another great video Joey!
Thanks Mike!!!
As a kid when this came out it never entered my mind that the cardboard use was due to the OPEC Oil Crisis. Thank you for educating me.
Of course this doesn't take anything away from my favourite playset, the Palitoy Death Star.
Thanks for watching, Valse
I wish Kenner would’ve made an Endor Bunker and Obi-Wan’s Hut could have also been cool.
I agree that would have been super rad! Thanks for watching Optic!
Super freaking cool review…well done 👍🏽…it truly is traumatizing handling and working with cardboard. 🤣👍🏽
Thanks Gary! Really appreciate you!!! 🙌🏼
I remember when my brother got it for Christmas! And my other brother got the cardboard Death Star! 😮 I got a plastic cowboy stagecoach 😢
Hey the good thing about having brothers is you get your play with their toys!
Thanks for showing us this! I don't remember ever seeing this in Australia during my childhood so I love that you can share it with us! Keep on making fantastic content!
Thanks Frostbite! And thanks for watching from down under 🙌🏼
I'd like to have both versions of this playset, Kenner and Palitoy.
Thanks for the demonstration on how to assemble the backdrop.
Thanks for the video
Hey T! I would love to have both as well, and maybe I will, but I want to finish the Kenner run first :)

Def. :)
Definitely an iconic SW playset! I give it to the Kenner (& Palitoy) creatives that came up with these playsets. Sure they may be an injection molded base, some cardboard, & stickers - but they accomplished a lot with very little.
I don't recall having this set in my childhood, but did somehow have the escape pod. Not sure if I actually had the set at one point & that was all that survived. Or more likely that the pod was a hand-me-down from one of the older neighborhood kids (they gave me their old stuff as they aged out).
As I mentioned in your unboxing video, as an adult, I didn't purchase my set complete, but rather pieced it together over several purchases. Definitely a more costly way to do it. Over the last couple years I've become even more of a completest, so I had been on the hunt for the original cardboard insert & sticker sheet. I'm happy to report that just yesterday I was able to secure both bits!!
So your two installments on this set (unboxing & review) couldn't have been any more well timed & relevant to me. I always appreciate the deep dive into the set history, including the timeframe references, as it really does give a better understanding for the sets themselves & why they were developed the way they were.
And I love that you take time to go over all of the individual components & full assembly. That's very helpful, especially if someone is still hunting components for their sets.
One quick question - any suggestions for cleaning the non-printed sides of the cardboard or boxes/cardboard that might have some surface molding from poor/improper storage? Just curious.
Thanks as always Joey for another entertaining & useful entry in your Playset Run! Getting closer & closer my friend.
Hey Mopar! I’m glad that this video was useful to you! I am going to answer your question about cleaning rhe mold off of the non printed cardboard side on a Q&A episode and if you want to know the answer now, just DM me on social media and I’ll give you the detailed answer!
Would be cool to have one of these playsets. The sandcrawlers are so awesome! I wanted one of the vehicles or the Land of the Jawas playset but never got one. I used to make my own playsets out of random stuff and draw backgrounds for them. My drawings weren't as good as the illustrations on the official ones, but I enjoyed making them.
The 'oil shortage' of the 70's turned out to be a political issue. There was plenty of oil, just that the U.S. and some other countries weren't on the best of terms with the countries that were exporting the most oil. The U.S. and other Western countries were also starting to restrict oil exploration more and more. On top of that, the cars that were on the roads in the 70's weren't very efficient and a lot of homes and businesses were still using heating oil in the winter and power plants were using natural gas to make electricity.
What a time for a toy company to try to release a major toy line! Kenner did the best they could.
I got the excape pod from a friend on a Facebook collectors' group a few years ago. It's pretty sweet! I don't have the rest of it, but it's great to have the pod. As a kid, I used to use disposable coffee cups with the plastic lids for my escape pod.
The battle action part of the stand is really cool! I used to shoot my figures with a rubber band gun or a toy gun that shot ping pong balls to simulate battle. Great fun!
"Some assembly required. Your parents can help put it together. New! From Kenner!" :)
Great video! More detail than a lot of other videos out there about Star Wars toys. Toothbrushes and dish soap work wonders on these toys.
Thanks for all the great detail on this my friend! I missed to put that Kenner wanted to hit various price points on their toys and this one hit the lower tier, as they were making many toys with full injections
It makes sense. I can see someone in the marketing department saying that some families aren't going to be willing to spend a lot of money on something that isn't a vehicle nor an action figure, so they ought to have some lower priced sets. Coming up with the Land of the Jawas set and making it the way they did was pretty smart. @@thepadawancollectorofficial
Hi Joey, the land of the jawa is verry cool !
Thanks Pascal! And thanks for watching!
I had that when I was a kid. It has a frickin elevator, I mean, come on. And it came with the Tantive IV lifepod.
Hi Lamar! Yes! And it makes a great display 🙌🏼
Great video Joey. Really enjoy these. I've got a MISB land of the Jawas I'm currently tying to sell on ebay.
Hey Jart! Thanks for watching! I hope you get the price you want for it, it’s a great toy!
that looks really cool
Thanks Josh! And thanks for watching!
Nice interesting story
Thanks Wade! And thanks for taking time to watch and comment 🙌🏼🙏
Another informative video!
Thanks Christopher!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I've got to get it again
Hey Charlie! Good luck with the hunt!!!!
I think kenner thought this would be the poor kids sandcrawler know the the other sandcrawler would be more expensive.
Troy
Yea they did a good job and hitting many price points for different budgets
I would bashed it with remote control sandcrawler for the ultimate playset
That would indeed have been the ultimate
Great video!!! What’s missing on the check list?
Hey Danny! The Cantina Adventure Set! That’s the last one!!!
There’s one at a Mom and Pop shop nearby complete for $150, thoughts on that price?
Sounds like a good price, just make sure it’s complete and in working condition
Soft card board made it unplayable the toy displays nice I have all Three and they are all flimsy. But I enjoy them and don't man handle them.
Hey Wade! Yea they also make nice displays :)
Stop premature now. Because this dose not work. Thanks ✌️😎
Hey Jaimie! I'm not sure I understand your comment???
