Vertical Manifold Tutorial - Short on Space? Squeeze Several Smelters Into Some Small Spaces

  • A how-to guide for a 2 column vertical manifold design that helps you squeeze a bunch of simple machines in to maximize your space in the game Satisfactory. Great design for beginners trying to get organized and efficient.
    This tutorial shows a step-by-step build of a 2 column, 6 smelter manifold design which overflows vertically that can help you squeeze more into your Satisfactory factory space. You only need foundations, splitters, mergers, and conveyor lifts for this efficient design and it will work with any single input machine like constructors or smelters.
    It also includes a hot tip on to position yourself for a vertical build even if you are a beginner without the hover pack or the jet pack.
    This video was supposed to end with a full build of my 16 smelter vertical manifold for my 7.5 per minute fused modular frames factory, but I forgot to hit the record button before building it. sad trombone
    However, it does finish with a look at the full 16 smelter build when completed and I think it looks quite Satisfactory.
    This build takes place on a 2x3 grid and includes 16 smelters. It inputs 480 iron ore per minute and outputs 480 iron ingots per minute. This product volume is obviously too much in the early game due to lack of belt speed, but the design can be scaled back easily even to a single column 2 smelter manifold if you only have Mk I belts as a true beginner.
    Drop me a comment below if you have some ideas on how to improve this design, have any questions on what I have done, or have any ideas for future videos. I would love to hear from and will respond quickly.
    I will be doing some more Satisfactory tutorials so make sure to subscribe to see what is coming next! I will be doing a series on good ways to feed each type of machine and a guide and walkthrough of my recycled rubber/plastic loop factory.

    Stackable Conveyor Supports also have a ladder and take up less horizontal space! That's another way to get a ladder slammed down wherever you need one.

      Definitely! I used storage containers here since you get them in tier 0, plus they give you an area to stand to build from.
      Everybody kinda forgets (including me) about the lookout tower, which would be pretty good for this sort of building as well

    I'd use conveyor lifts on the in/outputs and directly attach the splitters/mergers to them to spare me stacking them.
    Will probably do that with assemblers and just make ever input lift a click higher than the other.

    I do a similar build however use a single column if splitters/mergers and have the side ports for the smelters and the front/back for the level transversal and just rotate 180 for the import/export port. I also use the stackable conveyor poles for support till I get the columns and just change out.

  • @ShadowMage3D

    I like to alternate 4m and 1m walls, and have the foundations aligned with the 1m walls.
    Since this won't work with splitter stacks you can just put a temporary foundation underneath each splitter.

    • @DrLootCrate
      @DrLootCrate  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is definitely a good approach. This style of build is now best done as a blueprint!

  • @XxFatelErroRxX
    @XxFatelErroRxX ปีที่แล้ว +1

    instead of putting spitter stacks, you can just place a floor then delete the floor and have them float then set up ur belts.
    Great idea non the less. deff going to be using this in my compact factory.
    never really thought of stacking smelters. always had them on the first floor that go into a stacked compact factory.

    • @DrLootCrate
      @DrLootCrate  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What I do for my builds is actually put a little 3m beam stick out of the front of the platform as a perch for the splitter.
      I wanted to give an option for a fully supported/non-coating build for those that care about that…I really don’t care too much personally.

    Nice idea, you've given me some inspiration for my next build. However, why use 2 towers of splitters and mergers while you can have just 1 in the middle? For the raw materials, have the entrance to the outside, split off to both smelters, then on the inside, go up with 1 lift and have the input there on the inside. Split off again to both smelters on that 2nd level and have another lift on the outside going to the 3rd floor and so on. Same for the exit. At the bottom, you have 3 mergers while 1 should suffice. Only keep the merger in the middle, send the output from both smelters to that merger and have the lift come down to the 3rd input on the outside.

    • @DrLootCrate
      @DrLootCrate  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you liked it. I wanted to not use anything from the awesome shop and if I am understanding you correctly the “inside” lifts would need lift floor holes.
      But if you check out my latest video that has a similar design but with assemblers, I did it pretty similarly to how you describe. Great minds think alike!

    instead off beams you could now also use half floors/foundations 1meter by 5 or 4 i believe the floors square size whas 8m-X8m-x1mthick or it is 10m-x10m-x1m.

    You also don't need to use storage containers as a ladder. To be a bit more cleaner with your improvised ladders, you can also use conveyer poles.

    • @DrLootCrate
      @DrLootCrate  ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually think it is easier to use storage containers because you get a platform to stand on with it. Plus, you wouldn’t necessarily have stackable conveyor poles unlocked yet if building this.
      But the poles do also make good ladders for sure

  • @Broadside388

    I’m following you starter series and finding it a bit problematic negotiating the factory. I really like this modular design. I’m going to try and do this for each product output, if possible, as I think being able to walk around without jumping so much would be a better experience. I’m sure they’ll be a downside but I love what you did here. I’ll ofc have to learn about the speed of the conveyer belts and how they impact the output and demand you can place on them but, that’s the fun, right? :)

    • @DrLootCrate
      @DrLootCrate  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you have the blade runners yet that let you run faster and jump higher? If not, start researching in the MAM. It doesn’t take much to unlock them if I recall.

      I’m now on stage 5/6 and am struggling to understand the oil refinery. I make about 100 plastic which is fine but, I can’t claim the heavy oil or the fuel. I have space in my inventory but when I try and retrieve it, there is a Red Cross in my inventory. It was late last night (0200hrs) so I made 6x 100 stacks of plastic by dismantling the plant and rebuilding it again…. I know this is wrong but I was hoping the fuel/oil would be placed as a result of the dismantling of the plant…. Nope. There’s clearly something I’m missing and I’ll try and sort that today. I created 600 plastic for the red button and incase I need anything else. I think I really need quartz most to unlock at the research bench too. I was running around for hours last night and managed to acquire 93 of the 100 I need.

    You could just use one stack of splitters on between the two smelters and have the lateral outputs feed them and the frontal output will overflow onto an elevator that goes into the next splitter and so on. It's kind of a hybrid manifold/load balancer setup but it saves materials so🤷
